Pokemon: Reborn As Ash, I'll Conquer Every League

Chapter 331: Chapter 331: Double Battle in the Watermelon Patch

Chapter 331: Double Battle in the Watermelon Patch

The Mauville Gym posed little difficulty for Ash; old man Wattson treated every challenger equally, with his three Pokemon always being Magnemite, Voltorb, and Magneton.

Ash simply sent out Pupitar and Sableye, easily completing a speedrun.

The speed was so fast that old man Wattson even began to doubt if he was getting old. Fortunately, with the Team Rocket Trio there to ’enlighten’ him, and after repelling the Team Rocket Trio, old man Wattson realized that he wasn’t ready to retire just yet.

At the same time, he also planned to raise a new Electrike, so he could challenge Ash and May to a rematch in the future.

After obtaining the Mauville Gym’s Thunder Shock Badge, Ash’s group embarked on their journey to Fallarbor Town.

The reason for going to Fallarbor Town was simple: to participate in the upcoming Grand Festival, the Akiba Contest, which was being held there.

Ash had already planned to head to Lavaridge Town for a Gym challenge after attending the Grand Festival.

Of course, Ash did not intend to participate in this Grand Festival, because this was the contest where May would win her first Ribbon; it would be too cruel to May if he participated.

He would not reveal this decision now, as he intended to put some pressure on May to force her to grow.

Ash also planned to watch the battle between May and her father, Norman. At May’s current level, she was far from being able to defeat Norman, even if she could gain the approval of that Tyranitar.

When staying at the Petalburg Gym before, Ash had seen Norman’s main lineup with his own eyes; it was a level that only a true Elite Trainer would have.

Not long after the group left Mauville City, while resting by a stream to eat lunch.

May looked upstream and suddenly noticed something, ”Ash, Brock, look! It seems like something is floating by!”

”Is that... a watermelon?” Brock said uncertainly.

Ash took a closer look and smiled, ”Brock, you didn’t see wrong, that is a watermelon!”

They saw three large watermelons floating down the river from upstream.

After retrieving the watermelons, May’s foodie passive skill was instantly triggered, ”Brock, I’ll leave the watermelon cutting to you!”

”Sure!”

Brock gladly accepted the task.

”Pikachu, Eevee, we’re in for a treat!” Ash laughed.

He hadn’t eaten watermelon for a while either.

”Pika (Eevee)～”

Pikachu and Eevee both wore greedy expressions.

Brock had excellent knife skills. After cutting the watermelon, the three of them released all the Pokemon they could.

Just as they started eating, a Grovyle and a Slugma appeared before them with hostility.

Upon seeing the watermelons they were eating, the Grovyle opened its mouth and fired a Bullet Seed, while the Slugma used Flamethrower.

Seeing the attacks, Ash’s Grovyle and Corphish each used their own moves to block the attacks.

”What do they mean by this? Why are they attacking us for no reason?” May asked in confusion.

”You’re quite strong, watermelon thieves!”

At this moment, a girl with short green hair walked out from behind the Slugma with her hands on her hips.

”Thieves? You’ve misunderstood! We...” Ash tried to defend them.

But the other party’s momentum was clearly stronger. The girl angrily said, ”At this point, you still want to play dumb? These watermelons are undeniable evidence...”

As she spoke, she picked up a piece of watermelon, took a few bites, and then used ’Bullet Seed’ at Ash and the others.

”The moisture in these watermelons is unmistakable. It’s the Watermelon King, Watermelon Champion, Watermelon Master; these are definitely the watermelons I grew with my own hands!”

”Uh... if you put it that way, then we probably understand. These watermelons actually floated down from upstream...”

”We just felt lucky and fished them out to eat.”

Ash and May explained guiltily, one sentence each.

”That’s easy to say. Still playing dumb at this stage? Voltorb, come over here and see if these are the three thieves!”

As soon as the girl finished speaking, a Voltorb wearing a watermelon ghillie suit hopped over.

”Wow, what a big watermelon!” May was stunned the moment she saw the Voltorb.

”May, that’s a Voltorb!” Brock explained.

”Voltorb, are they the thieves who were knocked away just now?”

The girl asked, pointing at Ash and the others.

The Voltorb took one look and immediately shook its head, indicating she had recognized the wrong people.

”Uh?! Mistake?”

The girl’s face turned red, and she explained guiltily, ”This... that... oh, how annoying. When I get anxious, I don’t distinguish between right and wrong, but some people say I look cute like this!”

”Hehehe~”

The girl’s reaction made Ash and the others sweat.

The girl bowed and apologized, ”I am really sorry, I misunderstood you just now!”

”It’s okay, we were also in the wrong. But the watermelons you grow are really quite good.”

After clearing up the misunderstanding, Ash and the others learned from the conversation that the girl’s name was Nachi. She had contracted a piece of land nearby specifically for growing watermelons, and that Voltorb was the guardian of the melon patch.

To express her apology, Nachi specifically invited Ash and the others to visit her melon patch.

Upon seeing the large watermelon patch, Ash and the others were very surprised.

”So, Ash and May, you are traveling to challenge the Hoenn League and the Grand Festival?”

Nachi was also very surprised by Ash and May’s travel goals.

May waved her hand and explained, ”Actually, the one who really intends to challenge the Ever Grande Conference Champion is Ash! I’m just a rookie Trainer who has just started traveling.”

”Oh? So you’re saying Ash is very strong?”

Nachi looked at Ash with interest.

”It’s alright, I’ve only won the Indigo Plateau Conference and Silver Conference, I’m still learning.” Ash said very modestly.

”Is that so? I’ve never lost in a double battle either. Ash, how about we have a double battle?”

Nachi stopped pretending and declared war directly.

”A double battle? No problem!”

Ash never turned down a Pokemon battle.

Led by Nachi, the group arrived at an open space.

Brock volunteered to act as the referee.

The two Pokemon Nachi sent out were Grovyle and Slugma; both of these Pokemon were at an intermediate Gym level.

Ash took out two Pokemon balls, ”Corphish, Sableye, I choose you!”

”Ash, as the guest, you can go first!” Nachi politely yielded the right of first attack.

”Then I won’t be polite. Sableye, jump onto Corphish’s claw. Corphish, use Crabhammer on Grovyle!”

Ash started with a combo move.

Sableye was launched by Corphish using Crabhammer.

”Sableye, use Shadow Claw!”
