Reincarnated as a Mosquito, I Sucked the Reborn Empress to Tears

Chapter 202: Chapter 202: The Academy Grand Competition Begins, Gu Yuexi Descends

Chu Sheng opened the list and looked through it.

Most Skills didn’t require many Evolution Points to upgrade at Low Levels.

However, after Level 5, the number of Evolution Points needed for an upgrade began to skyrocket.

The lowest-leveled skill, Ten Thousand Insects Substitute, only needed 5 Evolution Points to reach Level 2.

The highest-leveled, Nether Flame Insect Nest, required 250 Evolution Points to reach Level 10, but to get to Level 11, it surprisingly needed 1,000!

Chu Sheng stared at the list, the gears in his mind turning rapidly, and finally settled on an upgrade plan!

Upgrade—

[Ten Thousand Insects Substitute Lv1]→[Ten Thousand Insects Substitute Lv5], consuming 85 Evolution Points: The insects in the Insect Nest will take physical damage for the host until all Insect Beasts are dead. The damage each Insect Beast can absorb is doubled! This Skill can now be freely switched between active and passive use.

Before, the level of Ten Thousand Insects Substitute was too low. All the Insect Beasts combined probably couldn’t have withstood a full-power attack from a Fifth-Grade Early Stage expert. But now, it could finally keep up with Chu Sheng’s combat level!

[Nether Flame Insect Nest Lv9]→[Nether Flame Insect Nest Lv10], consuming 250 Evolution Points: The number of storable Insect Beasts has increased from 16,000 to 32,000! The self-destruct mechanism and Insect Swarm Evolution function remain unchanged.

Upgrading the Nether Flame Insect Nest also created a synergy with Ten Thousand Insects Substitute. Doubling the number of Insect Beasts meant that the damage-blocking capability of Ten Thousand Insects Substitute was also doubled!

However, although the “capacity” of the Nether Flame Insect Nest had increased, he still only had 16,000 Insect Beasts.

’Where am I going to find the other 16,000?’

’Ah, right! I’m going to the “Shadowland” for the academy competition tomorrow, aren’t I? There should be Insect Beasts inside. I can capture some there!’

’Also, when I kill the Demon Beasts inside, I can harvest their Life Energy to evolve my Insect Beasts!’

’Looks like I really have to go to this academy competition after all!’

…

Besides these two, Chu Sheng upgraded his other Skills as well. All of them received significant improvements.

Nether Vision Lv7→8: Sensing range increased to a 20,000-meter radius. Upgrading this skill also indirectly increased the maximum range of Boundless Wings’ Spatial Movement.

Nether Flame Battle Armor Lv2→5: Defense greatly increased!

Soul-Bursting Flame Feather Lv5→6: As one of his core offensive Skills, Chu Sheng had originally wanted to upgrade it a few more levels. However, he discovered the upgrade wasn’t very significant—it only slightly increased the number he could summon. So, he decided not to level it further for now. Besides, Soul-Bursting Flame Feather required more Evolution Points to upgrade than his other Skills!

Soul-devouring Demon Spike Lv6→10: This was a true Core Skill, so Chu Sheng leveled it straight to Level 10. The final effect was a slight increase in the efficiency of absorbing Qi Blood and Mental Power. For example, from a Fourth-Grade Early Stage Demon Beast, Chu Sheng could originally only drain about 30 points of Qi Blood in one go, but now he could drain over 40.

’Seems like it wasn’t worth it. What a ripoff!’

Monarch’s Suppression Lv2→5: Soul Suppression is enhanced, granting a natural Kingly Dominance. At the same time, the ability to communicate with Demon Beasts is somewhat improved.

In the end, out of 1,192 Evolution Points, only 27 remained. He had spent almost all of them.

[Current Evolution Points: 27]

…

「The next day.」

The academy competition at Hong Kong Island University officially began.

The competition at Hong Kong University wasn’t just a major event for the university itself; it captured the attention of everyone on Hong Kong Island. After all, this was the most prestigious university on the island. In previous years, the top performers of the competition were even granted a personal audience with the Governor of Hong Kong Island!

On the main field of Hong Kong Island University.

At sunrise, students from every academy had gathered there.

Looking out, the sea of black-haired heads looked like a surging ocean. The vast field was almost completely filled, buzzing with a clamor of voices—a truly spectacular sight!

All the students from the seven academies—nearly fifty thousand people in total!

The seven academies each wore the Hong Kong University uniform, but in different colors. The Array Academy wore blue, the Warlock Academy was in white, and the Mind Master Academy had a cyan theme. Alchemy and Artifact Refining were in pale yellow and light purple, respectively, while the Fengshui Academy wore gray. As for the Beast Taming Academy, they were dressed in black with gold thread patterns.

At the front of each academy’s section stood a group of students—the contestants representing their respective academies.

The Beast Taming Academy was positioned at the very edge of the field, and Chu Sheng was at the front of their ranks.

The students of the Beast Taming Academy were all a bit nervous, especially those at the front who were about to represent the academy in the competition.

As the academy that was perennially in last place, they now carried the hopes of their entire school!

“Have you all heard about the format for the competition this time?”

“Yeah, it’s terrifying. We don’t just have to figure out how to kill Demon Beasts, we also have to guard against other people trying to steal from us. It’s way too difficult.”

“I know, right? With this format, the last-place team could have a really bad score. If we end up with a score of zero, it’ll be so humiliating!”

“Heh, humiliation is the least of our worries. I heard a rumor that if our academy comes in last again this year, we might get kicked off the main campus and be demoted to a branch campus!”

“What? For real?!”

Hearing this, the faces of all the contestants from the Beast Taming Academy turned pale.

Su Li, also one of the contestants, was usually confident and proud, but right now she was feeling unsettled.

Last year, as just a third-year, she had already represented the academy in the competition. Back then, she and her upperclassmen had given it their all, but they still ended up in last place.

Her gaze drifted involuntarily to the figure at the very front—that giant cockroach.

This year, she was supposed to be the team captain. But in the end, Dean Mu had announced that while she would be the nominal captain, the actual captain was Chu Sheng! All actions had to be carried out according to Chu Sheng’s arrangements!

Su Li didn’t feel resentful about this; in fact, she was a little grateful. Because Chu Sheng had taken on the pressure of being the captain for her.

…

Suddenly, as everyone was talking, a deafening bell toll that seemed to shake the heavens rang out from the Bell Tower beside the field!

In an instant, the noisy field fell silent. Everyone’s gaze turned in unison toward the main stage.

The Dean of Hong Kong Island University, Chen Shouzheng, appeared in the sky above the main stage, flanked by the seven other deans. Their robes fluttered, and their presence was magnificent.

Their gazes swept across the scene before they slowly descended onto the stage.

Chen Shouzheng first gave a brief speech, then announced a bombshell piece of news:

“Before the academy competition officially begins, a special guest will be joining one of the seven academies and will represent that academy in the competition.”

“And she is the one who recently cleared the Heart Sea Glazed Tower—the future Empress, Lin Zhixia!”

As his voice fell.

A stunningly beautiful, yet cold and aloof figure walked on air, descending before the tens of thousands of students.

Gu Yuexi!

In front of the Beast Taming Academy’s formation, the bored-looking Chu Sheng’s eyes lit up:

’Oho, Master is here too?!’
