Rebirth in Famine: She Thrives by Lucky Space

Chapter 986: Chapter 986: Engagement Set

”Brother Li, I’ve come over unannounced this time to propose on behalf of my son. This kid likes Li Xue, and today I saw the daughter of your family and also felt she’s really great. No wonder my Guodong likes her?”

Li Yunqiao didn’t mean to put on airs, so he was very straightforward.

”Yes, the two kids have already told me.

Guodong is a good kid, and I am very pleased with him.

Guodong invited you here just to have you witness the engagement of the two children.”

”Brother Li, thank you for seeing Guodong in a positive light. This kid is my son, but I really think my son is quite good.

Don’t worry, my family doesn’t have any bad habits, and we won’t be unfaithful; we will absolutely be loyal to the marriage and the family, wife, and children.

Now you might think I’m speaking too soon, but if Guodong ever turns bad, I definitely won’t shield him.”

Li Yunqiao nodded with a smile, very satisfied with Lv Beiguang’s words.

”Good, with Brother Lv’s words, I feel even more at ease.

I know you have work, and there’s not much vacation time, so let’s discuss a date today. Getting the two kids engaged gives them a sense of responsibility, and getting along will come with less hassle.

Most importantly, it’s also to give the two kids assurance.”

Lv Beiguang didn’t expect it to go so smoothly. He was a bit excited.

The others said nothing throughout, just waiting for the two fathers to make a decision.

”Brother Li, getting the kids engaged is a big deal, but I also know it can’t be too grand, so I was thinking of giving the kids something material.”

”These are all formalities; we both hope for the best for the two kids, and everything else is just ceremonious.”

”Brother Li, you decide on the engagement date.”

Li Yunqiao had just checked the old calendar in the study and knew Lv Beiguang’s time was limited, so he picked two dates in the near future.

”Brother Lv, I checked, Sunday is a good day, and next Wednesday also works. What do you think?”

”Then Sunday it is.” The groom’s family appeared very eager, which greatly satisfied the bride’s family.

”Alright, then this Sunday. There’s not much to prepare now, just a family meal together.

We were supposed to go to a restaurant, but my position here really makes it inconvenient.”

Li Yunqiao was also at a loss because they were out-of-towners, and not going to a restaurant seemed unrealistic, but he really couldn’t throw an engagement banquet for his daughter at a restaurant.

”Then let’s have the engagement at Old Yang’s house, so there’s no need to be troubled. I’ll come over a day early, get everything ready, and it’s just us having a meal. Xue’er, would you feel wronged?” Jiang Xinyu laughed and replied.

”Teacher Jiang, I wouldn’t feel wronged, even without an engagement banquet.”

”Great, thank you, Xue’er, for your understanding. Today is Wednesday, so there’s still four days. I’ll come over on Saturday.”

It’s just meals for two tables, which is not difficult for Jiang Xinyu. Besides, the main courses are already prepared at home; just need to drive them over. There’s no difficulty in preparing a few dishes there.

”Alright, Xiao Jiang’s suggestion is good, Brother Lv, sorry for the trouble.”

Lv Beiguang shook his head with a smile, already owing Jiang Xinyu a lot, so he didn’t mind this little thing.

”We’re engaging the two kids to unite the two families. Brother Li has been very considerate of my side, and with Xinyu helping to organize, I’m more than happy.”

Wei Kaiyun thought to himself, of course, you’re happy; your son’s engagement is being handled by this side.

Since the wedding date was set and it was getting late, Jiang Xinyu was preparing to head home, as there was still a big family waiting there.

”Vice Mayor Li, I’ll head back now. My little girl hasn’t been with me for so long; I’m a bit worried.”

”It’s late, drive safely.”

Wei Kaiyun nodded. He knew, of course.

Jiang Xinyu smiled at Lv Beiguang. ”Are you coming back with us or staying here?”

With four days to spare, he’d return in three. Hadn’t even seen his daughter yet. Lv Beiguang smiled and didn’t answer Jiang Xinyu directly but looked at Li Yunqiao. ”Brother Li, I’ll head back first; my daughter is waiting for me. Xinyu and I will come on Saturday.”

”Alright, I understand. Xue will stay home these couple of days.” After all, she’s a daughter preparing for marriage. Better to stay home a few more days.

Guodong and Li Xue were snuggling together, and he didn’t really want to leave, but he knew it wasn’t right to stay there.

Since everything was decided, Wei Kaiyun got his son ready, holding him. Jiang Xinyu and Lv Beiguang, Guodong, all tidied up.

”Brother Li, I’ll take my leave now.”

Li Yunqiao said a few polite words with a smile, then the family saw them out the door.

Li Xue and Guodong walked behind, whispering to each other.

Li Yunqiao sighed inwardly; daughters are hard to keep once grown.

It was already past eight, and the streets were empty, feeling especially desolate.

”Wife, should we head home now or stay the night and leave in the morning?”

”Can you drive alright?”

”I’m fine.”

”Then let’s go home now. Tingting hasn’t spent a night away from me; she might not adapt. Also, we don’t have enough things here, better to go home.”

The other three had no objections. Lv Beiguang was certainly willing to go back, as he hadn’t seen his daughter in over half a year.

”Xinyu, what preparations are needed for the engagement gift here?”

”I’m not sure, let’s ask when we get back.”

”I’ve prepared according to our customs, fearing there might be differences here, which wouldn’t be ideal.

I prepared a bolt of high-quality fabric for Li Xue; this was given by Qian Jun, and I prepared two bolts for you as well.”

”Good fabric. How is Qian Jun doing now?”

”Same old. People introduced him to someone, but he didn’t agree. Not sure what he’s thinking.”

”Haha, aren’t you the same?”

”But I have two kids already, even if I have no regrets in the future. But he’s all alone; how can he compare with me?”

”Oh, you’re quite proud?”

”Not really, it’s just my excuse is stronger than his.”

Guodong chuckled behind them, as his dad always seemed so childish in front of Aunt Jiang.

”Xinyu, I’ll leave the engagement banquet to you.”

”Why are you being polite with me?”

”Not really polite, but it’s still troubling you.”

Wei Kaiyun walked ahead, feeling a bit sour. Honestly, if they knew it was inappropriate, why make his wife handle everything?

When they arrived at Old Yang’s house in the city, the place was already very warm, and Shi Xian had fallen asleep.

”Hurry and get in the car, or if we stay in the house for too long, we won’t be able to leave, as Shi Xian won’t be used to it.”
