Rebirth in Famine: She Thrives by Lucky Space

Chapter 968: Chapter 968: Confession

Wei Kaiyun and Old Yang were crouching in the yard, cleaning fish.

Zhao Xiaoli didn’t want to smell this, so she didn’t come close at all.

Jing Chu was helping with water, after all, you can’t wash with cold water.

Jiang Xinyu fed Shi Xian, and only then went out, ”Xiao Qiang, go ask Master Lu to come over for dinner tonight.”

”Got it.” Zhao Xiaoqiang ran off.

Right then, Li Xue came over with sticky bean buns.

”Li Xue, stay for dinner, we have fish today,” Jiang Xinyu said with a smile.

”Alright, but I need to go home and say something. The fish you sent over today, my second aunt is unwilling to eat, saying she’ll have my second uncle bring it to my sister-in-law tomorrow.” Li Xue covered her mouth and laughed as she finished speaking.

”Then hurry back and tell your second aunt that tomorrow you can take two fish from my house for your sister-in-law, let Red Army and Cheng Lin enjoy fish too.”

Li Xue nodded with a smile and ran off. Cheng Lin was drooling over the fish; with his aunt saying no, he looked quite pitiful, which was really funny. Cheng Lin was the one who loved fish the most at home. Saying to him, ’look but don’t eat’ was quite cruel.

”Wife, let’s also have Shuanzi and the other three come over for dinner.”

”Sure, I just forgot to mention, have Guodong run another trip.”

Jiang Xinyu was nonchalant about it, the relationships were good, and they all worked with her husband, so having a meal together wasn’t a problem.

The house was bustling now. ”Sister Zhang, you handle the rice. They’re all good eaters, but let’s make some eight-treasure porridge for us ladies, I can’t eat dry meals at this time of night.”

”Sorghum rice okay?”

”Sure, add some bean, it’ll be more fragrant.”

Zhang Qiu’e nodded, her rice is the tastiest, Jiang Xinyu felt even dry eating was particularly fragrant.

On the stove, porridge was simmering in a clay pot, with a variety of grains, soft and delicious. Anyway, the women were definitely having porridge at night.

”Xiao Zhang, make some corn cakes; eating fish with cakes is the way to go,” Shang Zhenkun instructed with a smile.

Jiang Xinyu thought this family really couldn’t have consistent tastes.

But sauerkraut fish wouldn’t do, so she had Du Fengying stew meat, anyway, they’re invited for a meal, do more tasty dishes.

The whole family got busy, with three kids helping with the fire.

Jiang Xinyu grabbed a knife to cut fish fillets. Old Yang glanced over, ”Let me do it, I’ll cut them thinner than you.”

”Alright, I’ll just prepare the ingredients.”

Busy busy, two hours later, the family finally sat down to eat. Still, two tables, women ate inside.

Different from the men’s dishes, they had porridge, stir-fried cabbage, eggs for kids, and a pot of mildly spicy sauerkraut fish.

”Li Xue, don’t hold back.”

”Teacher Jiang, this fish is really delicious, teach me how to make it. Cheng Lin is pestering my second uncle to fish, I want to make it for them when I go back.”

”It’s quite simple, later take some dried chili and Sichuan pepper back with you, actually it’s mostly about the Sichuan pepper.”

Jiang Xinyu explained in detail to Li Xue how to cut fish fillets, what seasonings to marinate, how to cook fish bones, and stir-fry sauerkraut.

”I’ll make it for Cheng Lin tomorrow, he’ll definitely love it.”

The two girls sat together, Li Xue’s appearance couldn’t compare to Jing Chu’s, but she was young, and Li Xue had Li Yunqiao’s friendly eyes that were particularly comforting to see.

Jiang Xinyu sighed internally, feeling she’s really getting old, watching them, seeing herself as an old hag.

Time is unforgiving, the butcher’s knife makes it impossible to ever live carefree again.

The men were having big hearty meals, with Shang Zhenkun and Lu Tiezhu inviting Shuanzhu and others to drink.

”Xiao Wei, no strangers are around now, why aren’t you drinking?”

”I’ve abstained from drinking for a few years and don’t want to pick it up again.”

Old Yang chuckled nearby, Xiao Wei’s drinking capacity was unbeatable by himself, since being with Xiao Jiang, he stopped drinking.

Men truly need women to change.

”Brother Wei, your wife’s cooking is really good. This fish is delicious.”

”Eat more if it’s good, there’s more fish at home.”

”We’re going fishing tonight, will bring some to your wife tomorrow.”

Now they visit for meals often, no longer the initial awkwardness.

Today Lu Tiezhu and the others poured their second glass.

”Master Shang, I think this wine tastes different from last time?”

”Xiao Lu, you can tell?”

”Yeah, just feels different.”

”Heh, last time was brewed by Guodong’s dad, this time it’s my brew. Our methods differ, so of course the flavors vary.”

”I’ll have another glass today. I like this taste.”

Northeast men love their drink, one reason being the cold, another the long idle winters. It’s too cold outside and few entertainment options, drinking is a joy.

Shuanzhu and others didn’t drink more; they genuinely wanted to fish.

The women were faster eaters, already cleaned up. Shi Xian kept reaching for the table, his greedy look made everyone laugh.

Jiang Xinyu gave him two spoons of eight-treasure porridge today, and he’s now addicted, impatience growing if not fed.

The men finished eating, meat was left behind, but no sauerkraut fish, not even soup; they soaked rice and cakes in it.

”I said fish should be eaten with corn cakes,” Shang Zhenkun remarked proudly.

”Brother, come with me to walk Li Xue home; it’s too dark outside.”

”Okay, I can go alone,” Guodong whispered.

Jing Chu thought for a moment, ”Alright, you go alone. I’ll help with some chores.”

Li Xue lowered her head, no one saw her expression, Guodong took a flashlight and softly said, ”Let’s go, get your hat on.”

The young girl and boy walked one behind the other on the road. A bit awkward, Guodong didn’t know what to say, liking Li Xue and knowing she likes him, they’ve never spent time alone before, it’s their first time.

They walked slowly, neither speaking.

Guodong felt he had to break it, lightly coughed, ”Did you eat enough?” His immediate regret made him want to kick himself; what kind of topic is that?

Li Xue laughed, ”I ate my fill. Also took lots of seasonings; going to make sauerkraut fish for Cheng Lin tomorrow.”

Hearing the voice of the girl he liked, Guodong miraculously felt relaxed.

”Li Xue, I like you.”

Guodong said it and nervously awaited Li Xue’s reply, even a rejection would at least be an answer.

But the girl behind remained silent.

Guodong stopped and turned around, seeing her smiling at him, relieved.

”I like you too,” Li Xue said shyly while smiling, as saying one likes the boy she loves is embarrassing.
