Rebirth in Famine: She Thrives by Lucky Space

Chapter 978: Chapter 978: Meeting the Parents

Tonight at midnight, the updates resume with ten thousand words!

”Guodong, I have no objections to you and Xue being in a relationship, but if you want to take it further, then we must sit down and have a good talk.”

”Vice Mayor Li.”

”Don’t be so formal, just call me Uncle Li.”

”Yes, Uncle Li, I sincerely like Xue’er. I know I’m just a drifter here right now, but I will work hard.

Although I’m still young, I will definitely take responsibility. I am strong, and I can work to earn points to support Li Xue.

To be honest, I am not planning to stay here forever, but I don’t know when I can leave.

Aunt Jiang told us there is always a chance to take the university entrance exam, so I’ve never given up on studying. If the opportunity arises, however many years from now, I will take Xue to college and leave here together.”

Li Yunqiao listened to Guodong’s words and nodded with a smile. This kid has planned out his future life.

After working for so many years, I can still gauge people reasonably well. This kid isn’t perfect, but he seems to be a good kid. My daughter definitely has an eye for people. Though at first, she might have been attracted to his looks.

”What you’re saying is too far ahead,” Li Yunqiao said with a laugh.

Li Xue felt a little nervous hearing her father say that. Her dad always smiles, so it’s hard to tell if he’s agreeing or dissatisfied.

”Dad!”

Li Yunqiao smiled and patted his daughter’s hand, ”Don’t be impatient.”

”Uncle Li, I know anything I say now is just talk, but these are my true feelings.

At the moment, I have nothing to promise Xue, so I want to ask for your opinion. I want my dad to come here to arrange an engagement between me and Xue. This is my greatest sincerity.”

Li Yunqiao laughed. This is a good thing; he wants to secure the engagement without having gone through tests?

In reality, he knows that if there’s really a chance to leave or take the college exams, these kids who came to the countryside will definitely be eager to leave.

But his daughter is no less capable. She’s also studying. Even if she’s made a mistake in her judgment, she will have her own path.

But the prerequisite must be that his daughter continues to study.

Lv Guodong isn’t bad, persisting in his studies. It’s not impossible for the two to be together, but studying must never be abandoned.

These are all matters to be discussed later on.

Li Yunqiao looked at his daughter’s anxious and fearful expression and decided not to stretch this out any longer.

”Alright, have your dad come over, and we can talk. If everything checks out, we’ll arrange the engagement, considering you both are still young.”

Guodong finally felt relieved. He nodded excitedly, ”Uncle Li, I’ll call my dad right now.”

”No hurry, it’s almost time for dinner. Xue, go help Aunt Lu and the others. Your brother and sister-in-law should be back soon.”

Just then, a child’s cry was heard, and Lu Fengzhen quickly walked out of the kitchen.

”Walk slower.”

”I know.”

Lu Fengzhen entered the room and skillfully attended to the child.

Li Xue didn’t want to leave Guodong alone with her dad, but she knew she had to step away.

She hesitantly stepped into the kitchen, leaving the two men in the living room.

Li Yunqiao’s smile faded, ”Lv Guodong, I can agree to you and Xue, but what guarantees can you offer me?”

Guodong frowned and thought for a moment, ”Uncle Li, I can’t offer any guarantees, but I can make a vow. To be good to Xue for a lifetime, to care for her, respect her, and cherish her.”

Hearing this, Li Yunqiao felt at ease. This kid isn’t arrogant or naive. I dislike people who boast, and at least he’s honest.

”Alright, I’m willing to trust you. And willing to give you a chance.”

Guodong stood up excitedly, ”Thank you, Uncle Li.”

”Guodong, my expectations are not high; just be truly good to Xue’er. Can you do that?”

”Rest assured, Uncle Li, I can. I will always love Xue’er.”

”Guodong, you are good-looking, and there might be many temptations in the future. I hope you remember what you said today.”

At this moment, Li Honglin and his wife came in and paused upon seeing the young man in the living room.

Guodong quickly stood up, ”Hello, big brother, big sister.”

The couple gave an awkward smile, still puzzled about who this was and why he called them that.

Right then, Li Xue came out of the kitchen and cheerfully greeted her brother and sister-in-law.

”Xue’er is back,” Zheng Lihong said with a smile, holding her hand.

”Sister-in-law, Aunt Lu is in the room with my nephew.”

”Okay, I’ll go take a look.”

The sisters-in-law entered the room together. Lu Fengzhen had already tidied up the child and was giving him some water.

”Aunt Lu, let me,” Zheng Lihong hurriedly sat by the bed.

”You go drink some water and feed him later.”

Li Xue watched her sister-in-law and stepmother getting along well. That’s enough; as long as the family gets along harmoniously, that’s what matters.

The family has formed a habit of waiting until Zheng Lihong finishes feeding the child before having lunch.

So Wang Wugu was boiling water, knowing that the child usually gets full in about fifteen minutes.

Li Yunqiao and his son observed Lv Guodong. By now, Honglin knew this was his sister’s boyfriend. He hadn’t expected the usually well-behaved kid to find someone.

Looking at this handsome boy, Honglin wondered if he’d end up flirting around.

”Lv Guodong, are you serious?”

”Big brother, I’m absolutely serious. We clarified our relationship a month ago, and I wanted to find a chance to meet Uncle Li and you, but Xue was too busy, and there was no opportunity.

This time, there was a vehicle coming from the village, so I decided that we’d come back together.

Big brother, I’m absolutely serious. I’ll call my dad this afternoon. Xue’er and I aren’t that old yet, but I want him to arrange our engagement.

This way, we would be officially engaged.”

Honglin could understand Guodong. When he liked Zheng Lihong, after formalizing their relationship, he also wanted everyone to know and have both families acknowledge it.

So Honglin nodded, feeling relatively satisfied with Lv Guodong.

Lu Fengzhen began setting the table. Though it was dumplings, there was also shredded cabbage, a plate of fried peanuts, stir-fried eggs, and sauerkraut salad, making four dishes. She even brought out pickled garlic, chili oil, garlic, and vinegar.

Once the table was set, the kitchen started boiling dumplings.

Zheng Lihong finished feeding her son, and once he was asleep, she hurried out to eat, feeling a bit embarrassed to have kept everyone waiting.
