Rebirth in Famine: She Thrives by Lucky Space

Chapter 972: Chapter 972: Educated Youth of 1972

”Yeah, this row of blue brick houses over there doesn’t look like anyone is living there.”

”Should we go over and take a look?” Guo Shuling, being the youngest, was more curious.

”I don’t want to go, it’s too cold.” Hou Wenhui said while coughing.

Since someone disagreed, there was no other way, the four of them had to return to the educated youth place.

Wei Kaiyun didn’t pay much attention to this matter and went to the pesticide factory with Old Yang. This time, Old Yang was responsible for hiring a vehicle to transport the goods to Han Xiangjun’s place.

Although it was still icy and snowy here, elsewhere had already thawed. Time waits for no one.

The Li Family Brothers were at the pesticide factory, inspecting the bottle mouths.

”Xiao Wei, we’ve already made a thousand units here, and there’s not much bottle stock left.”

”It’s already ordered. The night after tomorrow, they’ll be delivered. Also, we’ll be shipping out the night after tomorrow.”

”Alright, looking at these in the warehouse, I was worried they wouldn’t sell.”

”Don’t worry, it’s fine.”

”Old Yang, you go to the capital to find Old Han. I remember seeing some packing straps there. Have him bring them over; this hemp rope isn’t sturdy.”

”Yeah, I’ll call him from the city tomorrow and have him prepare ahead of time. Also, have Chaoyang come with me, and in the future, he can go on his own.”

Li Yungui was excited to hear this news. When Wei Kaiyun kept Chaoyang behind, he was uncertain, but now it was clear that his son would be taken seriously.

”You take him with you starting tomorrow. Let him be involved in everything and hand things over to him.” Wei Kaiyun preferred this way, to see if Chaoyang was worth taking along.

After making a round, there wasn’t much else to do, and he remembered, ”Village Chief Li, the educated youths are looking for you. I told them to wait for you to go over.”

”Alright, I’ll go over at noon.”

The two of them went home again. Where else is as comfortable as home? Leave it all to others, and you can relax.

After lunch, Li Yungui went to the educated youth place.

”What can I do for you, comrades?”

The two male comrades felt embarrassed to speak, so Yan Shuping stepped forward, ”Village Chief Li, it’s like this. We realized after arriving here that we’re missing a lot of supplies, and we don’t know the way around here. We were hoping you could advise us on where to buy the things we need.”

”You can go to the township supply and marketing cooperative to buy them.”

Now, all six of them lowered their heads without saying anything, and Li Yungui understood why they had called him.

”Well then, if you don’t want to go out, just write down what you need, and tomorrow when someone goes out, I’ll have them bring back what they can buy for you.”

This was a pleasant surprise, so Xu Chunshan awkwardly said, ”Village Chief Li, you should go back and rest. We’ll write it down and bring it to you.”

Li Yungui nodded and left. Helping where he could, he understood. Even for those who grew up here, winter was too cold, let alone for kids from the South. It’s not easy.

Back home, Chaoyang was about to go to school. They said a quick goodbye and went their separate ways.

Tomorrow the busyness would start, and studying would have to wait.

But Chaoyang was willing, wanting to venture out. He knew if he did well, his mentor would surely value him.

He wasn’t worried about being trapped in the village in the future. With his mentor, he could learn more.

In terms of studying, isn’t there still his cousin and Guodong? Jing Chu didn’t want too much contact with him.

Thinking of this, Chaoyang felt very bitter. The girl he liked didn’t like him back.

He already noticed that something was off between Guodong and Xue’er, genuinely envying them. They seemed perfect, making him green with envy.

However, he truly wished them well. One was his cousin, the other a brother he valued.

Guodong’s character was undoubtedly reliable, and he was a responsible man, so there was no worry his cousin would be deceived or bullied.

Less than an hour later, while Li Yungui was still napping, Xu Chunshan brought over a paper, along with money and ration coupons.

Qu Xiaoli took the paper, ”Comrade, keep the money and coupons until the return, then you can check how much was spent and how many coupons were used.”

”Isn’t that too much trouble?”

”It’s okay, that’s how it works when the village sends for things. Aren’t you worried you’d not have enough money and coupons?”

”Thank you, Auntie.”

”No worries at all.”

Qu Xiaoli was also warm-hearted. She would never refuse to help if she could.

After thanking again, Xu Chunshan ran back. He returned the money and coupons to the group at the educated youth place.

”They said it’s fine to pay after the things are bought.”

”People in this village are quite nice. Although Village Chief Li seems indifferent, he takes good care of us,” Song Youjun sighed.

”Alright, let’s head out today. I noticed we are running low on firewood,” Xu Chunshan said.

”Where can we find firewood? Should you have asked Village Chief Li earlier?” Yan Shuping asked, frowning.

”I didn’t see Village Chief Li; it was his wife who took the note.”

”We should really figure this out.”

”Then let’s all go and ask. If we do nothing and run out of firewood, what will we do? Freeze to death?”

Things were serious now. Around here, firewood was as vital as food.

Without food, you starve, and without firewood, you freeze.

No one opposed this plan, and they dressed warmly and went to Village Chief Li’s house.

In the afternoon, before Li Yungui had gone out, he saw the educated youth coming over again.

”Did you forget something?”

”Village Chief Li, we’re running low on firewood, and we wondered where we could get some. We really can’t take this weather.”

Li Yungui had prepared quite a lot of firewood for them, but they had burned through it quickly.

This was understandable. But now where to find firewood? The mountains were inaccessible, and the firewood from the fields had been divided among everyone.

”In this weather, it’s impossible to get firewood. You have to save what you have. What you’ve been burning is what each household could spare. You’ll have to hang in there.”

The six of them were at a loss. What could be done? It’s cold enough already with this amount of firewood. How could they manage if they have to save it?

”Village Chief Li, isn’t there any other way?”

Li Yungui shook his head, ”After autumn, you can prepare more firewood yourself, but for now, it’s not possible.”

”Village Chief Li, can we buy some coal?” Xu Chunshan asked cautiously, noticing the stoves in both rooms.

”Do you have a coal purchase permit? Our village doesn’t.”

Now they were in a bind. How would they have a coal purchase permit?

”Village Chief Li, isn’t there any other way? We can’t just freeze to death, can we?” Pan Xiaoying was almost in tears.
