Rebirth in Famine: She Thrives by Lucky Space

Li Yunqiao, after finishing the meeting, declined the dinner invitation and hurried to the hospital.

By this time, the child was already born. A son weighing six pounds and three ounces.

Zheng Lihong was doing alright, didn’t suffer much, and the child was born after two hours.

Li Honglin was extremely happy. Being a father for the first time, he looked at the little red-faced person, his heart overflowing with love.

”Lihong, I’m going home to prepare some food for you, I’ll be back soon, very quickly.”

”Aunt Lu, no need to rush.”

”How can I not rush, you must be hungry, I’ll go make you some food.

Your parents probably don’t know yet, but Honglin, you should wait until I come back to report the good news. Leaving just Lihong and Xue’er at the hospital is not good.”

”Alright, I understand.”

Lu Fengzhen quickly went back home after giving some brief instructions.

There were fish, chicken, and pig trotters at home, given that the child was just born, it’s best to make chicken soup.

She truly didn’t know how to take care of a postpartum woman, back then when her sisters-in-law gave birth, she just lent a hand and didn’t pay much attention.

After returning home, she took out the frozen chicken, which was already cleaned, and directly put it in the pot. She had asked beforehand, chicken soup for postpartum women shouldn’t have salt, but Li Yunqiao had prepared ginseng slices, and two slices could be added. She also had goji berries and jujubes ready.

Being in a hurry, the fire was rather high, and after the whole chicken boiled, it was switched to a low flame to simmer.

She initially planned to steam buns for lunch but didn’t have time, and she was truly hungry. While working, she ate a piece of pastry, mainly because the hunger was unbearable.

Then she steamed buns, directly making sugar buns so Lihong could eat more.

But the three people at home also needed to eat, so she made porridge, cut some pickled vegetables, and fried eggs for the postpartum woman for nutrition.

She was busy running around alone, finally, after two hours, all the food was ready. Packing scrambled eggs and buns in one lunchbox, then another lunchbox with stir-fried cabbage. There was a thermos, half a chicken’s meat, and half a pot of soup. Then she hurriedly took all the food to the hospital.

When she got there, Zheng Lihong was already asleep, Honglin and Li Xue were watching the baby, smiling foolishly.

Lu Fengzhen carefully opened the door and put all the lunchboxes on the table. ”Honglin, Xue’er, have your meal first, you need to report the good news later.”

”Aunt Lu, have you eaten?”

”Don’t worry about me, I’ll eat with Lihong later.”

Li Honglin ate three sugar buns, half a lunchbox of stir-fried cabbage, leaving all the scrambled eggs and chicken soup for his wife. Li Xue ate two sugar buns, she was truly hungry.

Zheng Lihong woke up smelling the aroma, ”It smells so good?”

”It’s just stir-fried cabbage, what smells good? You’re hungry, have the chicken soup first.”

Lu Fengzhen picked out some chicken meat, poured half a bowl of soup with a layer of oil floating on top.

In this era, people’s stomachs lacked oil, there was no disdain for it. So Zheng Lihong had it without hesitation, drinking and eating heartily. After finishing a bowl, she felt much more comfortable.

Lu Fengzhen brought over scrambled eggs, sugar buns, and stir-fried cabbage for her. ”You should eat some more, there’s still chicken soup in the thermos, it won’t get cold, you can have another meal later.”

”Aunt Lu, has Honglin gone to my house?”

”Yes, he went to your house to announce the good news.”

”Aunt Lu, Xue’er, have you eaten?”

”I’ll eat after you’re done.”

”Sister-in-law, I’ve eaten.”

Zheng Lihong ate until full and lay down contentedly, watching the baby sucking on its lips.

The nurse already informed them, now the baby needs to be given water.

”Aunt Lu, the baby needs some water, there’s hot water in the thermos, and cool boiled water in the tea mug.”

”Alright, I got it.” Lu Fengzhen was just about to eat, but the baby was more important, so she could wait to eat.

After feeding the baby water, she changed the baby’s diaper and washed the diaper, by the time Honglin returned, Lu Fengzhen had just finished all the work.

”Aunt Lu, haven’t you eaten yet?”

”I’ll eat now, you go pour Lihong a bowl of chicken soup.” Lu Fengzhen ate the cold meal, feeling uncomfortable in her stomach, she quickly took out her tea mug to pour a cup of hot water, straightforwardly didn’t eat the dishes, the sugar buns were filling enough.

After eating, she tidied up and checked everything again, finding that the baby had pooped again, still a bloody stool, but the doctor said it’s normal.

Lu Fengzhen regretted not taking care of her sisters-in-law more carefully back then, now she knew nothing, had to run to ask the doctor for every little thing.

Li Honglin felt a bit embarrassed, ”Aunt Lu, let me wash the diaper.”

”No need, I’ll do it, you take a rest.”

Going to the mother-in-law’s place to announce the good news took just an hour, Honglin came back with sweat on his forehead.

By the time Li Yunqiao arrived, Lu Fengzhen had already delivered dinner, this time Li Xue went back with her. Once again it was chicken soup, sugar buns, and she brought sorghum porridge and stir-fried potatoes for Li Honglin.

This day she ran back and forth between home and hospital, her thighs felt like they were filled with lead, heavy as a rock.

Zheng Lihong’s parents, siblings, and in-laws were all present. Seeing the daughter’s stepmother taking good care, they felt relieved.

”Congratulations, Old Li.”

”Congratulations to you too, Old Zheng.”

The two men exchanged compliments, both with smiles on their faces.

Old Li Family was happy because they had a grandson, Honglin had an heir now.

Old Zheng Family was happy because their daughter gave birth to a son, they were finally standing firm.

Mrs. Zheng warmly took Lu Fengzhen’s hand and talked affectionately.

”Mother-in-law, should Lihong have some food first?”

”Alright, alright, it seems I, the real mother, am not as good as the mother-in-law.”

Lu Fengzhen didn’t know what to say, her face turning bright red.

The eldest sister-in-law of the Zheng family was surprised, this sister-in-law’s mother-in-law is so unusual, so young and pretty, indeed, how else could she become the sister-in-law’s mother-in-law.

A few words, yet she blushed?

Zheng Lihong ate the chicken meat and drank the chicken soup, which also contained wontons.

”Mother-in-law’s cooking skills are really good. My daughter is lucky.”

”I don’t know it well, for many things I still need to learn from you.”

”It’s alright, it’s alright, this is already very good.”

”Mother-in-law, would you like some too?”

”No, I’m heading back, tomorrow morning I’ll bring Lihong food, tomorrow happens to be Sunday, I’ll stay at the hospital for the day, you can rest at home, mother-in-law.”

”Thank you very much, mother-in-law. I’ll come and bring food at noon tomorrow, Lihong, tomorrow would you prefer pig trotter soup or fish soup?”

”Aunt Lu, I’d like fish soup, the doctor said today it’s almost time for milk, the doctor said it’s best to have fish soup.”

”Alright, I’ll bring it over at noon.”

”Mother-in-law, no need for you to bring fish soup, I’ll bring it over tomorrow morning.”

Lu Fengzhen just smiled. These words could not be taken seriously, tomorrow she could bring a little less but she still needed to come, needed to bring it.
