Rebirth in Famine: She Thrives by Lucky Space

Chapter 951: 951 Encounters

”We’ll definitely go to Brother Wei’s house for dinner too.”

”The food at Brother Wei’s place is really good.”

”That’s because they’re capable. I think Brother Wei and the others will definitely leave in the future.”

”Then I’ll follow them. Wherever they go, I’ll go too.”

”Yes, I think the same. I’ll just stick with them in this lifetime. We don’t have any skills, but we can get a meal if we follow Brother Yang and Brother Wei.”

Today, Lu Tiezhu was quite happy. It was just the two of them left here now, so his wife didn’t have to suppress herself anymore.

So he went a bit overboard, and who would’ve thought, in the middle of the night, just as he was putting in effort, there was a knock on the door.

”Hurry up and see who it is. Why are they knocking at this hour? There must be something up.”

Lu Tiezhu got up unwillingly to put on clothes, muttering about who was so inconsiderate.

Opening the door, he saw it was Shuanzhu and Big Biao. ”Why are you two back?”

”Master Lu, this is home. Once we finished our business, we had to come back.”

”Hurry in, it’s too cold outside. I didn’t light a fire for you. Go stay in the workshop first; I’ll go start a fire.”

”No need, no need. We can do it ourselves.”

”Do it yourself? How long it’s been? I’ll call your aunt to make you something to eat.”

The two of them felt a pang in their noses. At home, their own family didn’t care about them, but here, someone did care and showed concern.

The two obediently went into the workshop. The temperature inside was quite high, given so many stoves, even though they’re now sealed.

Lu Tiezhu went inside, ”Wife, Shuanzhu and Big Biao are back. Can you make them something to eat?”

”Sure, do you want some? I’ll make noodles.”

”I’ll eat some, you have a little too.”

”I don’t have the habit of eating in the middle of the night.” Du Fengying got up and went to the kitchen to make dough.

Lu Tiezhu lit the stove for them, set water to boil, and told them to soak their feet. It took them nearly ten hours to walk back from the city.

Even though they’re young, it’s very exhausting, and it’s cold outside. They must not catch a cold.

The two sat by the stove, already sweating but not feeling unwell. It’s still better here; this is home.

Du Fengying specially sliced some meat into the soup to make it more appetizing.

She prepared a whole pot and called the three of them over to eat, right by the stove, even fried some chili oil.

”Eat something spicy, sweat a bit, so you won’t feel uncomfortable. Just don’t catch a cold.”

The two young men hadn’t had a proper meal since yesterday, so they were naturally happy to have this flavorful hot meal. Lu Tiezhu only had two bowls, and the rest were finished by the two of them, even drinking all the soup.

Their nose tips were sweaty, and that’s when they felt comfortable.

”You two sit here for a while, the room temperature isn’t high enough. Anyway, it’s already late, so just let it be.”

The two nodded obediently, staying by the stove, waiting for their sweat to subside before returning to the room. ”Master Lu, Auntie, you go back now, we’ll tidy up here.”

The two troubled buddies sighed comfortably as they lay in warm beds an hour later.

Chengzi had slightly better treatment when he got home. But he was thinking of leaving the day after tomorrow. He had nothing to say to his family. Besides, the house was too cold, and he was used to working by the stove every day. Sleeping at home now was really uncomfortable.

Today he went out thinking of spending ten yuan to buy something for his parents. He planned to leave the day after tomorrow morning. This way, he wouldn’t be back for the New Year.

While queuing in the supply and marketing cooperative to buy meat, someone asked, ”Are you working in Li Family Village?”

Chengzi looked up and recognized Vice Mayor Li. ”Yes, I’m Chengzi.”

”Are you back for the New Year?”

”No, I came back to get an introduction letter. I’m going to the Capital for the New Year.”

Li Yunqiao paused for a moment. He was unable to contact home and didn’t know what was going on.

”Once you’re done buying meat, come to my house.”

”Alright, I’ll wait with you.”

Chengzi only bought half a pound of meat. Since it was almost the New Year, everyone was buying meat, and moreover, he didn’t have enough ration coupons.

He was in front of Li Yunqiao in the queue, so after he bought his meat, he waited aside.

Chengzi wanted to say something on the way, but Li Yunqiao stopped him.

When they got to Li Yunqiao’s house, Lu Fengzhen came out to greet them.

”Why did you get up?”

”I’m fine, really.” Lu Fengzhen had no choice, as if she was made of clay.

”I’ll make some food. What do you want to eat?”

”Make more, so Chengzi can eat at home.”

”Alright, then cornmeal buns and cabbage stewed tofu.” Lu Fengzhen smiled and went to the kitchen.

”Vice Mayor Li, the village decided to go to the Capital to make corn shelling machines. So, some of us are going there.”

”To the Capital?”

”Yes, Brother Wei’s friend came over for the New Year and saw the corn shelling machine. He suggested going to the Capital. Brother Wei and Village Chief Li both agreed.

I’m going with them, so I came back to get the introduction letter. We leave after the fifteenth day of the New Year.”

Li Yunqiao roughly understood the whole thing. He thought for a moment and realized it wasn’t a bad idea.

”Why are you leaving the day after tomorrow?”

”It’s uncomfortable at home, and the village is short of people. I’m already experienced, so I should go back to work. Plus, I can earn a salary.”

Li Yunqiao nodded, ”Not bad, quite good. Before you leave the day after tomorrow, could you come by my house to help take some things back?”

”No problem, but there’s no need to bring meat. The village divided three fat pigs and about four hundred pounds of wild boar. Each person got a lot of meat.”

”Alright, I know. I’ll prepare something for you to take back.”

Li Yunqiao meant not to let the three kids come back. Since there’s no transportation, making them walk back is not feasible. It’s better for them to stay at home safely.

Since there’s meat, I’ll prepare some candy. Something heavy would be inconvenient for you to carry back. The journey is not easy.

Chengzi wanted to leave, but Li Yunqiao held him back, ”Eat before you go.”

”Vice Mayor Li, I should go home to deliver the meat. I’ll come over at four in the morning the day after tomorrow. Otherwise, it’ll be too late.”

”Alright, just knock on the door.”

Chengzi didn’t accept the noodles given by Li Yunqiao and ran off.

Li Yunqiao went to the kitchen; his wife was making cornmeal buns.

”The young man has left.”

”Who is he?”

”He’s making corn shelling machines back home. He’s leaving the morning after tomorrow. I wrote Xue’er a letter, telling them not to come back. The journey takes over ten hours, and they’re still young. They must not get sick. We’ll visit them in the spring.”

”Then send some meat back to them.”

”Chengzi said the village divided the meat and a large wild boar. Everyone got a lot. There’s no need to give them meat. I’ll go buy some candy. Just candy will do.”
