Rebirth in Famine: She Thrives by Lucky Space

Chapter 521: 521 Ready

When it became translucent, she tasted it and found it wasn’t sweet enough, so she added another half a pound of sugar before taking the large pot off the stove. She placed it in five lunch boxes to cool.

Just then, Jiang Xinyu heard a knock on the door.

”Xinyu, it’s us.”

Jiang Xinyu hurried to open the door. ”Come on in, I’ve made something delicious. In a bit, you can take some home for Xiangting and Liangyu, but you can’t eat it today. Let it cool down, and tomorrow you can cut it into small pieces. It’s orange-flavored jelly candy.”

The two children had already smelled the sweet aroma.

Chen Xiangting held Jiang Xinyu’s right hand while Chen Liangyu was on the other side.

Wang Ailing and her husband carried two large bags and followed Jiang Xinyu into the house.

Jiang Xinyu intentionally took out four bananas, ”You two try these; they’re fruits from the South, but they’re hard to bring back.”

As she spoke, she peeled one and handed it to Liangyu. Xiangting watched her aunt’s action and peeled one for herself.

”Auntie, what is this? It’s so sweet.”

Jiang Xinyu patted Chen Liangyu’s head, ”This is a banana, tasty right?”

Wang Ailing and her husband sat on the side, smiling and watching.

”What did you bring me?”

”My mom sent you peanuts, and there’s a bag of soybeans. My dad said he’d bring you sweet potatoes in a few days.”

”That’s great. I’ve been craving roasted sweet potatoes.”

After Jiang Xinyu spoke, she opened the cover and saw that the bread dough had risen.

”Since all four of you are here, wait a bit. I’ll steam some bread right away and send a few back with you for the kids.”

”Xinyu, what a lot of trouble for you.”

”Qiao Jingyi is pregnant and can’t eat much else. The bread I gave her this morning, she could eat, so I’ll steam more for her.”

”You just can’t sit still. I’ll help you with the fire.”

The two quickly got to work. Jiang Xinyu beat two more eggs into the remaining egg whites and steamed a bowl of egg custard for the two children to eat.

”You spoil them too much.”

”These are our kids. If conditions allow, let them have something good; it’s worthwhile.”

Once the bread was steamed, Chen Guoliang rode his bicycle to deliver it to Qiao Jingyi. Wang Ailing was worried about Jiang Xinyu going out alone.

”Xinyu, what’s with the bag on the floor?”

”I’m bringing food and cotton clothes for the kids. Since I can’t be there to take care of them, it’s all I can do.”

”You’re too heartless. How can you bear to part with the kids?”

”Sister, I’m afraid Kong Demin will target me. He’s approached me more than once, and I sense he has feelings for me. I’m scared the kids will get implicated.”

Wang Ailing was startled, ”That damned bastard.”

”Alright, with the kids not around, I feel much more at ease. Besides, I’ve resigned from Qian Jun, though it hasn’t been approved yet. Once it’s settled, I’ll head to the Northeast to be with the kids.”

”Xinyu, you really should be careful. After Mr. Qian fired people, he suggested auditing you, claiming you visited Russia three times and must have gained many benefits.”

”I know, I’ll be cautious. I’m not afraid of people at the factory; it’s Kong Demin I’m worried about.”

”They’ve gone mad now. In the two months you’ve been away, they’ve raided twenty houses. They didn’t even spare the former landlords in the village.”

”You all be careful too and tell brother-in-law not to get involved with them.”

”He’s said the same. He warns that despite their current antics, they will surely face retribution in the future.”

Jiang Xinyu thought Chen Guoliang really was wise, which was good, preventing them from being implicated later.

”Tell my brother-in-law that now is the time to keep a low profile, and not compete for anything. The time will come for them to suffer.”

The two chatted as the two children sat beside, listening.

Soon, Chen Guoliang returned, and the family left with the ten pieces of bread Jiang Xinyu prepared, along with two bags of milk candy and a lunch box of orange jelly candy.

Jiang Xinyu placed the remaining four boxes in the west room, waiting to see if they would succeed by tomorrow.

Early the next morning, after washing up, she headed to the kitchen, took a spoon, and entered the west room.

She saw that the orange-flavored jelly candy she made had set. She tried it with a spoon; it was quite chewy.

That should mean it was a success, right? She hurried to the kitchen to cut it into small pieces. She tried one herself, and it tasted good, though a bit too sweet.

It was warm inside the house, so it was decided to leave it and check at noon. If it melted, she wouldn’t send it to the kids.

After breakfast, she went to work. After the morning meeting, she went to the finance department. The audit should be finished by tomorrow, and no errors had been found till then.

At noon, she brought her meal back and waited by the phone, not having to wait too long before it rang.

”Hello, Jiang Xinyu.”

”Mom, it’s Feifei.”

”Darling, my precious, how are you all?”

”Mom, we’re doing great, don’t worry. Life in the village is wonderful, and the villagers are really nice. Plus, Master Shang practices with us every day.”

”That’s good. Mom sent you cotton clothes and milk candy. This time by train, they should arrive soon.”

”Mom, you don’t need to worry about us. Uncle Yang prepares a lot of good food for us. We aren’t lacking anything.”

”Alright, mom understands. No need to go to such lengths in the future. Now wait for your brother to talk to you.”

”Okay.” Jiang Xinyu’s eyes turned red.

”Mom, it’s Shi Jing.”

”Shi Jing, mom’s precious.”

”Mom, just as Sis said, we’re really doing well. Master Shang even hunts wild chickens, but they’re not as delicious as what you make.”

”Alright, when I come over, I’ll make you roast chicken. It’ll be better than Master Shang’s.”

”Mom, it’s not Master Shang cooking, it’s an aunt Uncle Yang found.”

Niang San talked about many daily things. After thirty minutes, Jiang Xinyu reluctantly hung up, reminding Feifei to call Wei Kaiyun, as he cherished the children deeply.

After hanging up, she quickly cycled home, first checking the orange jelly candy. Despite it being quite warm in the room, the candy hadn’t melted, which reassured her.

She took seven bags of milk candy and cycled to the supply and marketing office.

Everyone had arrived and was waiting for Jiang Xinyu in She Xiaoyun’s office.

”Sorry, I’m late.”

”You’re such a busy person. You hardly spend any time at home all year round,” Liu Yuwei teased her.

”Yeah, now I feel nauseous just thinking about trains. Most of my time is wasted on them.

I only brought back some milk candy from Hai City. There’s not much else, and the situation over there isn’t stable.”

”This is already very good; you even brought back milk candy. You have no idea how anxious everyone is here,” Hao Shichao sighed.
