Rebirth in Famine: She Thrives by Lucky Space

Chapter 515: 515 Learning

It took Jiang Xinyu half an hour to complete the procedures, and only after seeing her belongings packed, she left with peace of mind.

When Wei Kaiyun came back in the evening, Jiang Xinyu had already wrapped the dumplings. This time, they were pork and green onion, as it had been so long since they had any meat that Jiang Xinyu was starting to get unused to it.

”I called Old Yang today and sent Feifei and Shi Jing’s clothes to him.”

”Is it just clothes?”

”I don’t dare send food, better to wait until I go back and ask the railway bureau for help to bring it over. I’ll also start making the cotton clothes tonight, otherwise it might get too late and they won’t have anything to wear.”

”Old Yang will definitely have it prepared.”

”I’ve thought it through, I’ll make them cotton coats so that both can fit regardless of the size.”

”Then you should take a day off tomorrow.” Wei Kaiyun felt for his wife, as doing needlework at night was too straining on the eyes.

”No need, it wouldn’t look good. By the way, are we going back together?”

”Yes, all seven of us will go together, and the ventilation equipment installer should be with us.”

After dinner, Jiang Xinyu went straight upstairs and took out two pieces of fabric she had saved before; both were quite thick. Shi Jing’s was army green, and Feifei’s was maroon.

Jiang Xinyu decided to make coats with hoods, using sheepskin brought back from Russia as the lining. Even if it was cold, these coats would resist the wind.

She didn’t return to the bedroom but instead locked herself in the study to work on it because some things were better kept behind closed doors.

By the time Wei Kaiyun came knocking around nine, she had only cut all the fabric and sheepskin. By tomorrow night, she could finish one but would still need to buy buttons.

Four busy days passed, and Jiang Xinyu took the afternoon off to send the cotton clothes and also called Old Yang to inform him.

Now her mind was much more at ease. The ones she made were much bigger, likely covering the feet of both children when worn.

With nothing to do in the afternoon, Jiang Xinyu went to the grain station to sell some sticky rice, and the rest she’d just take from their storage.

Dinner was lean meat porridge, which Wei Kaiyun loved. It was mid-November, and it was already very cold in the mornings and evenings.

Jiang Xinyu worried about freezing after getting off the train on the way back, so she made two cotton coats without the sheepskin lining.

”Wife, you certainly think of everything. We have to be home by the end of December, and it will definitely be cold.”

After entering December, they had about a week left, and the five of them started taking leave one after another. After all, it wasn’t easy to make this trip, so they wanted to bring back something their families didn’t have.

Yang Xiaoxian fully understood and even gave them two afternoons off.

”Vice Factory Director Jiang, do you have anything to bring back?”

”Mr. Yang, I’m just planning to take some White Rabbit candies. I’ve gradually bought some before, but now I have no more candy coupons.”

”I still have some.”

Jiang Xinyu shook her head and refused, ”No need, I’ve already bought a lot.”

Yang Xiaoxian didn’t insist further. After all, he believed he did what he should, regardless if others appreciated it.

The two went home in the evening and, from afar, saw someone sitting at the door with a bundle of luggage beside them.

”Xinyu, that should be Zhou Zhiping, my friend.”

”Luckily he came before we left, otherwise, I would really be uneasy.”

When the two reached the door, Jiang Xinyu saw a delicate man glance up at them before standing. ”Xiao Wei?”

”Old Zhou, thank you for coming.”

”Haha, I’m now a useless person, so it’s the same wherever I am.”

”Xinyu, this is Brother Old Zhou, Zhou Zhiping. Old Zhou, this is my children’s mother, Jiang Xinyu.”

”Haha, you’ve really got some good luck.”

Jiang Xinyu smiled and nodded, ”Brother Old Zhou.”

The three of them entered the courtyard. Wei Kaiyun was responsible for boiling water, Zhou Zhiping went to take a shower, and Jiang Xinyu cooked. Not knowing Zhou Zhiping’s appetite, she made plain white rice for simplicity.

As for the dishes, it was just tomato scrambled eggs and a plate of twice-cooked pork, though with more meat than onions. Finally, she made some spicy and sour shredded potatoes. There wasn’t much variety because they didn’t have ingredients to make something more elaborate.

When Jiang Xinyu saw the freshly bathed Zhou Zhiping, she was momentarily stunned, as he was quite good-looking, although a bit feminine. She suddenly recalled what Wei Kaiyun had told her—that he couldn’t marry—and linked it to what she saw today, guessing where he might have been injured.

Wei Kaiyun warmly entertained Zhou Zhiping, and at the dinner table, Old Zhou praised Jiang Xinyu’s cooking skills profusely.

After the meal, Jiang Xinyu went to wash the dishes, leaving the two long-separated friends to chat.

”Xiao Wei, you’ve really got it good, finding such a wife.”

”Yes, I also feel very fortunate.”

”You said she’s the mother of your children; where are the kids?” Zhou Zhiping, because of physical reasons, couldn’t have children and therefore was especially fond of kids.

”They’re all at Old Yang’s. You know I don’t have control over my own situation, and my wife’s place isn’t safe either, so we decided to send them away temporarily.

We’re thinking about resigning to go live with the two children.”

”Haha, you already have two children?”

”Yes, a son and a daughter, one of each.”

”Come, let me show you the children’s photos.”

Wei Kaiyun took out his wallet, which always contained pictures of the two children.

Zhou Zhiping took them and looked at the beautiful children in the photos, growing more and more fond as he admired.

”Not bad, these two kids look great.”

”Old Zhou, I asked you to come to help us look after these three houses. They are left for the children, but we’re afraid we’re too far to take care of them, so we trust you to manage it.”

”No problem, I can stay anywhere, but better arrange a job for me, or I’d feel bored just idling.”

”How about watching the gate at the textile factory?”

”Sure, even if it’s sweeping the streets, that’s fine.”

When they got to this point in their conversation, Wei Kaiyun handed all the keys over and took Zhou Zhiping on a tour, giving him a clear idea of everything.

”I’ve already talked to the textile factory, and tomorrow you can come with me.”

”Alright, Xiao Wei, rest assured. I’ll take good care of this place.”

”Thank you, now I feel at ease too. With you here, I have absolute peace of mind.”

When they returned, Jiang Xinyu had already finished bathing and was back in the bedroom.

That night, Wei Kaiyun held Jiang Xinyu in his arms and whispered in her ear, ”Today, Old Zhou twice mentioned how lucky I am to have found you.”

”Isn’t it true? Finding me was the blessing of your past life’s cultivation.” Jiang Xinyu said proudly.

Wei Kaiyun adored her in this little proud manner. Once again, he pressed her down beneath him, leading to yet another feast.
