Rebirth in Famine: She Thrives by Lucky Space

Chapter 504: 504 deferred

”I’m going back today.”

Sun Hongxia glanced at Kong Demin. ”Are you really going back?”

”Yes, we’re getting off work together today.”

Sun Hongxia barely managed a smile at that and went out to work.

Kong Demin sat in his chair, thinking about how this was really too easy on her; his problems were because of her family, and this was just the beginning.

In the evening, the two had dinner together at the cafeteria and cycled home. Sun Hongxia had been sleeping all day, so she was feeling much more refreshed.

She chatted with Kong Demin along the way. After they got home, she busied herself preparing hot water for her husband to freshen up.

The two lay under the covers, with Kong Demin keeping his eyes closed and not speaking.

Sun Hongxia felt a pang of disappointment. She didn’t know how other couples’ lives were, but her own situation seemed far from normal.

”Demin, do you not like me? Why don’t you ever want to touch me?”

Kong Demin felt a surge of disgust, holding it in as much as he could but finally bursting out, ”I can’t do it now; I have no interest at all, all because your dad scared me that day.”

Sun Hongxia sat up, stunned, looking at Kong Demin, despite the darkness enveloping the room.

”Demin?”

Kong Demin sat up too. ”You didn’t hear wrong. I can’t do it anymore, and you and your father have ruined me. I’m not a normal man anymore. How about now, are you happy?”

”Demin, let’s go to the hospital tomorrow. You used to be so healthy; it can’t be a big deal.” Sun Hongxia was genuinely terrified. At her young age, was she destined to be a widow forever? This was simply not acceptable.

”Hmph, I’ve already been to the hospital; just leave me to recover.”

”Demin, I won’t pester you anymore in the future.”

”Hmph, even if you did bother me, would I be able to satisfy you? What, can’t handle it?”

”Demin, how can you say that about me? I just want us to have a good life together.”

Kong Demin snorted lightly and lay back down.

Sun Hongxia, having slept the whole day already, wasn’t sleepy at all by night. After hearing this news, she was even more awake.

She lay down carefully, overwhelmed by sorrow. What kind of fate was this? To encounter such a situation? How could Kong Demin blame her? It wasn’t her desire; her father’s reaction was normal in that scenario.

She touched her belly, uncertain about the two times they had been together. Was there a child now? If there were, that’d be good. If not, and if Kong Demin stayed this way forever, what would she do?

Sun Hongxia’s mind was a chaotic mess, considering every possibility. The more she thought, the more frightened and wronged she felt. She started sobbing silently.

Kong Demin suddenly sat up and began getting dressed.

”Demin, what are you doing?”

”Your crying is annoying me too. I’m going to the office.”

”I won’t cry anymore; please don’t go, I’m afraid, I truly am.”

Sun Hongxia held onto Kong Demin, refusing to let go, crying and pleading.

”Then stop crying.”

The next day, Sun Hongxia’s eyes were swollen. She cautiously got up to take care of Kong Demin.

”Why don’t you stay home today? Also, if you tell anyone about my condition, we’ll divorce.”

Kong Demin left after saying that. Hearing the door close, Sun Hongxia collapsed onto the bed, crying her heart out. How could things be like this? She really couldn’t bear to talk about it now; what if Kong Demin truly abandoned her?

Staying at home was terrifying too, but she knew that if she returned home in this state, she wouldn’t be able to hide it from her parents. She couldn’t discuss this with them yet.

Near noon, seeing that she looked much better, she finally cycled to the office, deciding to work after all.

Kong Demin, after telling Sun Hongxia about his condition, felt a sense of vindictive satisfaction. Yes, let this woman live in fear.

And if he recovered, he still wouldn’t touch her. This week, he planned to go back and have Sun Baoqiang introduce his network of contacts to him.

Meanwhile, Tao Juncheng, after receiving the investigation report on Kong Demin last night, was livid as he read through it.

Secretary Cao had already looked it over. Seeing the expression on his leader’s face, he knew it meant real anger.

”Secretary, we can’t rush this; he’s just a minor player. We still need to take down that big shot first.”

Tao Juncheng put down the materials. ”Is Qian Jun out of his mind?”

Secretary Cao adjusted his glasses. ”Anyone would be furious in his position; otherwise, he wouldn’t have given you that kind of information.”

”Hmm, this is mutiny. This means they’ve become enemies.”

”Exactly. Pulling this on such a joyful occasion, it’d drive anyone mad.”

”Sigh, he’s unlucky too. Just got married and then lost his wife, what a mess.”

”Secretary, what do you plan to do about that person?”

”We’ll hand the evidence and that material directly to the province. I refuse to believe they’ll have a chance to come back from this.”

”Okay, I understand. I’ll arrange it immediately.”

”Send someone to deliver it directly to the province. Oh, and don’t hand over Kong Demin’s information just yet, but let’s keep a copy here.”

”Got it.”

”Draft a document exaggerating their offenses.”

Secretary Cao nodded and left, knowing he’d get no sleep tonight.

Tao Juncheng, still pondering, called back Secretary Cao.

”Prepare all the materials, but don’t send anyone tomorrow. Let’s consider if we can place our people in the Revolutionary Committee.”

”Secretary, that’s unlikely. We’re not from the same clique. Even if someone is removed, they wouldn’t place our people.”

”So there’s no advantage for us at all?” Tao Juncheng rubbed his temples.

”Not exactly. At least the newcomers won’t have the energy to deal with us right away.”

”Life’s been so tense, having to stay on our toes all the time. Let’s hold off on sending it.”

”Understood, Secretary.”

”We still need to send someone to speak with our leader verbally and gauge his intentions.”

”Understood.”

When will this precarious life end? Ultimately, it’s all up to the higher-ups.

Cao Zixuan took all the materials home, finding the office unsafe for them.

Jiang Xinyu and Wei Kaiyun also welcomed two comrades who would be living with them.

When the two male comrades came in, they didn’t even greet them. Jiang Xinyu felt an extreme aversion to them.

She sensed they were not good people. Their appearance made it evident; though not the typical villain looks, they were definitely not ordinary people.

At lunch, ”Do you think those two have issues?”

”They’re practitioners, but they have nothing to do with us.”

Jiang Xinyu sighed. This whole journey couldn’t be smooth.
