Rebirth in Famine: She Thrives by Lucky Space

”Honey, how about I carry you on my back?” Wei Kaiyun said as he squatted down. He was more relaxed here since there were few people who knew them and it wouldn’t cause any negative impact.

”Get up quickly, I want to take a walk after dinner, besides, I’m not tired.”

People with low emotional intelligence can really hurt you. This is how a man shows his love, but our single-minded Jiang Xinyu just doesn’t see it that way.

”Let me carry you.”

”No, I just ate; it’s uncomfortable.” Jiang Xinyu said, pulling Wei Kaiyun up, and the two walked hand in hand down the street.

”I still don’t know how things are at home. It doesn’t seem very peaceful here usually. Too many students are out on the streets.” Jiang Xinyu sighed.

Wei Kaiyun didn’t know how to respond to his wife’s words; Lu Weiqi called him, saying that the factory was unsettled and Ding Mingqiang was struggling to manage. It was a hopeless situation.

”Did Qian Jun talk to you about the factory? Lu Weiqi called today, saying things are already unstable. A few troublemakers are causing problems every day.”

”No, Qian Jun hasn’t said anything, but I guess there shouldn’t be a problem. You and Qian Jun are both serious people; no one would dare to cause trouble. But once I return, someone might start causing issues because I don’t have that much authority yet.”

”Qian Jun won’t really let things go.” Wei Kaiyun knew Qian Jun well; he was someone with a strong desire for power, and there seemed to be a faint trend of rising, so things should be stable on his end.

”I hope so. Actually, Qian Jun is quite pitiable too. Finding a wife was difficult, and now it ended like this?

I truly sympathize with him. What kind of fate is this?”

”That’s his own choice. Without investigating, I can guess that it must be after you left, Qian Jun’s wife wanted to take leftovers home, and Qian Jun didn’t want to go. A woman going out alone easily attracts attention. However, that female comrade also has bad luck. I heard the criminal was usually an honest person but drank that night.”

Jiang Xinyu sighed; this matter can’t be blamed on one person, but Qian Jun definitely bears some responsibility, even if in his own heart he can’t get over it. Otherwise, with what Jiang Xinyu knows about him, he wouldn’t have taken a long vacation; he wouldn’t be at ease.

”I wonder how Kong Demin is doing? Just thinking about him makes me feel disgusted. All his issues are truly eye-opening.”

”I gave the investigation report to the higher-ups. I just don’t know the outcome. Should I call and ask?”

”No need; it’s unrelated to me as long as he doesn’t trouble me. Someone will deal with him.

He’s actually already faced retribution. Now he’s still smug, but he’s truly nothing.”

Wei Kaiyun nodded. Indeed, a man now couldn’t do anything, how could a womanizer endure it?

He forgot that, in others’ eyes, he himself was an inept man.

They returned home, washed up, and lay in bed. ”Before we leave tomorrow, I’ll pack our luggage; you go buy a snakeskin bag, pack everything in it, then it won’t get dirty, and we should buy more mothballs.”

”Okay, I’ll go buy them tomorrow morning.”

Wei Kaiyun cherished every moment; starting tomorrow, he didn’t know when he could be with his wife again.

Jiang Xinyu understood too, so even if he made a fuss, she didn’t refuse him.

Early the next morning, after breakfast, Jiang Xinyu hung all the bedding outside to dry, washed the sheets and covers, even if they weren’t dry before leaving, someone would help collect them.

Wei Kaiyun went out to buy things as his wife instructed.

At noon, Jiang Xinyu made braised pork, sneakily taking a piece from her stash, made a big pot, and the weather allowed it to be stored for Zhou Zhiping to eat slowly.

At one in the afternoon, Jiang Xinyu began tidying up the bedding, folding it, stuffing it with mothballs, packing it in the bags, sealing them, and placing them in the cabinet. The cabinet also had some mothballs, the smell was quite overpowering.

The sheets and covers were dry too, packed similarly. By two, they were ready with their luggage.

Wei Kaiyun had given Zhou Zhiping two years’ salary of eight hundred, and before leaving, added another five hundred for household expenses.

Zhou Zhiping didn’t decline; he did have money, but refusing would be troublesome, and he could return the money to Wei Kaiyun when he had the chance later.

”Should I see you off?”

”No need. We’ll take the bus, still have plenty of time. If anything comes up, call us, if you really can’t reach us, call Old Yang.”

”Hmm, I know. My abilities aren’t less than Old Yang’s; what’s there that can’t be handled here?”

They arrived at the train station at 2:40.

Yang Xiaoxian was there waiting with two engineers.

They exchanged pleasantries, then Yang Xiaoxian left.

The four sat in the waiting hall. The two engineers were discussing mechanical issues with Wei Kaiyun, which Jiang Xinyu didn’t understand, so she took out a book and read.

At 3:10, they finally heard the announcement, and could board the train. The waiting hall was chaotic and uncomfortable.

They didn’t have much luggage, just two changes of clothes and toiletries, so Jiang Xinyu refused Wei Kaiyun but was outmaneuvered and he took it.

The four were arranged in one compartment. It was convenient, avoiding awkwardness with strangers.

This time they first had to go to T City Textile Factory, as Jiang Xinyu had proposed it first.

Wei Kaiyun would get off at the Provincial Capital, while the three of them would return together.

Jiang Xinyu chose the upper bunk, with Wei Kaiyun below her.

The three had many common topics to discuss, to which Jiang Xinyu occasionally contributed.

Meals were individually paid for, and the engineers received subsidies while traveling.

A week on the train, Wei Kaiyun was to disembark the next day. He truly couldn’t bear parting from Jiang Xinyu but had no choice; he had to go back and couldn’t leave soon.

The other two had noticed something but saw Wei Kaiyun and Jiang Xinyu acted normally, although curious, they didn’t directly inquire.

Jiang Xinyu was also not in high spirits; this separation meant she didn’t know when they’d meet again. Given the situation, Wei Kaiyun couldn’t visit the child, and the circumstances at home were uncertain; hopefully, Qian Jun wouldn’t take too long a vacation.
