Chapter 981: Chapter 980: I Entrust Daisy to You

”We’ve been too busy and neglected you. Let’s go out and have some fun this weekend.”

Sophie Brown stood by the window, watching the night fall, her eyes slightly moist, ”Dawn Sutherland, I have something I want to say to you.”

”Go ahead, Mom.” Dawn stood beside Sophie, feeling her suppressed sadness and the pain of missing Romeo Grant.

”I know you and Daisy are in a sham marriage. All this time you’ve been putting on a show in front of me.” Sophie spoke softly.

Dawn’s heart skipped a beat, his voice tense, ”Mom, no, Daisy and I didn’t...”

”Don’t lie to me,” Sophie turned to look at Dawn.

Dawn lowered his eyes slightly under Sophie’s deep gaze, not daring to meet her eyes.

Sophie sighed, ”Dawn, why did you marry Daisy?”

Dawn pressed his lips together, his fingers on both sides stiff, ”I want to take care of her for a lifetime.”

Sophie smiled gently, ”Old Grant never misjudged anyone in his life, except for Daisy’s marriage. Choosing the Sutherland family for an alliance was Old Grant’s biggest mistake.”

Dawn was momentarily stunned, feeling a bit of pain in his heart. He knew the Sutherland family was too ruthless towards the Grant Family. Sophie wasn’t wrong, but it still hurt him.

Dawn remained silent for a while, just about to speak, but Sophie spoke again in a low voice before he could.

”Dawn, Old Grant used to say that you were destined for greatness, something I believe. He also said you would be Daisy’s fortunate match. But Dawn,” Sophie looked at Dawn, her gaze questioning, ”on the day of your wedding with Daisy, Old Grant and I were actually there. We silently blessed you from downstairs at the hotel. And on that very important day, we saw you leave Daisy behind and embrace Evalian Chapman.”

Dawn lowered his eyes, his voice heavy, ”I’m sorry.”

Sophie’s gaze became a bit moist, ”Dawn, Daisy has always been resilient. No matter how wronged she felt from a young age, she would never tell Old Grant and me, always bringing only good news, never bad.”

”She was abroad for five years, and we had no idea how she was faring. Recently, I saw reports about Aidan Sutherland and learned that he was involved with Elsa while abroad, never mentioning this to us, her parents.”

”Dawn, I just want to ask you, do all men think that only women who cry and make a scene deserve your empathy?”

”Do you believe that tears unseen by you do not deserve your care and love?”

”Dawn, on your wedding day, you left Daisy and embraced Evalian Chapman. You were worried about Evalian’s injuries and bleeding. But did you know that on that day, when you turned and left with another woman, your new wife, after changing out of her wedding dress and saying goodbye to friends, walked out of the hotel and cried alone in the wind and snow on the street?”

Dawn’s fingers clenched tightly in his palm, his heart aching sharply, his voice hoarse as he bowed to Sophie, ”I’m sorry. It was my fault. Please rest assured, that was the last time. For the rest of my life, I will treat Daisy well to repay her for the tears I caused that day.”

Sophie sighed deeply, her voice very light, ”I miss Old Grant, and I don’t know how much longer I can be with Daisy. Dawn, if I leave Daisy in your care, will you protect her for a lifetime, always believe in her, and never let her cry?”

Dawn looked up at Sophie, nodding heavily after a long moment, ”I will.”

Sophie walked to the wardrobe, opened the drawer inside, and took out something to hand it to Dawn.
