Chapter 958: Chapter 957: The Only One I Ever Loved Is Daisy Grant

Evalian Chapman lay on the hospital bed, watching Dawn Sutherland, who was silent and had a serious expression. She pursed her lips and slowly spoke with a frail voice, ”Dawn, why do you want to marry Daisy Grant? Am I not good enough, not as good as her? Or is her family background more impressive than mine? Dawn, may I ask you why? Daisy Grant is not only your brother’s former fiancée, but she has also slept with another man and is pregnant with his child. Do you still want to marry such a woman? Am I not even as good as her?”

Dawn slightly narrowed his eyes and looked at his wristwatch on his left hand, a birthday gift from Daisy this year. His eyes deepened, and his low voice resonated in the hospital room.

”I would rather her family background be more ordinary; that way, perhaps the distance between us would be closer.” Dawn’s slender fingers caressed the exquisite watch, his eyes soft. ”Evalian, you are great and outstanding too. But no matter how good or outstanding any girl is, in my eyes, there’s only her.”

The soft glance at the corner of Dawn’s eye was not for her but at the watch in his hand, as if looking through the watch at someone else, his gaze brimming with starlight. Evalian was momentarily stunned, her face turning even paler. Biting her lip, she asked, ”Is the person in your heart, the deep love that can’t be, really... Daisy Grant?”

Dawn’s hand stopped caressing the watch, he silently nodded after a while, ”Yes, the deep love I can’t express is for the one I’m marrying today. Evalian, I am the one who has wronged you, it has nothing to do with her. So if you have anger or resentment, if you want to hit or scold someone, direct it at me, not her.”

”But she has already slept with someone else! And has a child! Dawn, what has this blind love gained you?! You can’t have her, you can’t have her heart, so why do you still protect her like this?!” Evalian’s emotions became agitated.

Dawn pursed his thin lips, his voice low yet firm: ”Truly loving someone doesn’t mean always wanting to possess them; I want her to be happy more. If her happiness lies with someone else, I would do everything possible to send her to that person so she can be happy. If that person can’t make her happy, then I will; I can protect her for a lifetime. I would trade my life to have her look back at me even once, to see my existence.”

”Then why did you agree to be with me in the first place? Why did you date me!” Evalian’s eyes filled with tears.

Dawn looked at Evalian, ”I’m sorry, Evalian, it was my impulse that hurt you. I agreed to be with you because she was getting married, and only because she once said she’d feel at ease seeing me happy. So for her peace of mind, for her words, I impulsively agreed to make you my girlfriend.”

Evalian had never felt the pain of rejection as she did now, realizing her sorrowful plight!

She always thought Daisy Grant had taken away her happiness, only to realize that her fleeting happiness was granted by Daisy’s mere words!

Evalian’s body trembled slightly, as she cried looking at Dawn, ”Dawn, I always thought you were gentle and refined, but you hurt people more cruelly than anyone! You agreed to date me just because of Daisy Grant’s words... Dawn, do you realize how cruel your words are!”

Dawn’s gaze was sombre and heavy, ”I know my words are cruel, but it’s the truth, Evalian. In my heart, for this lifetime, there will only ever be the name Daisy Grant. Whether I marry you or someone else, the one I love will always only be Daisy Grant.”

”If I married you, I would only treat you with courtesy, but never give you my true heart.”
