System Came When the Doctor was Thirty

Lu Cheng and Dai Linfang entered the doctors’ lounge one after the other.

Seeing the person sitting inside, his brow instinctively furrowed.

The visitor was a young woman in her twenties, pretty in appearance: ”Director Lu, Director Dai, did you finish the surgery?”

”Come, have a drink. I brought some coffee along the way.”

Lu Cheng and Dai Linfang both sat on the lower bunk directly opposite them in the lounge, while Dai Linfang buried his head in opening his lunch box: ”General Manager Qin, this is the boss. You should talk to him.”

The visitor was named Qin Yueru, a pharmaceutical representative.

Even though bulk purchasing has decreased the size and number of pharmaceutical reps, they still exist.

After all, not all medical supplies are procured in bulk, and even those that are may not be favored by the clinicians.

Lu Cheng was eating as well, glancing at Qin Yueru and said, ”General Manager Qin, we can’t afford your company’s sutures.”

Qin Yueru laughed: ”Director Lu, are you kidding?”

”Most surgeries in the emergency department are not covered by insurance, and have third-party liability.”

”Our company’s sutures are of great quality. They’re probably the best, right?”

”Director Lu, you’re performing new surgical techniques, so these details and material quality need to be up to par.”

”Director Dai, wouldn’t you agree?”

The quality of sutures from different companies varies.

The cheapest batch from bulk purchasing might break during suturing.

Once sewn into the patient’s body, the likelihood of them snapping is even greater.

Thus, Lu Cheng’s team primarily uses imported sutures.

This is why the trauma center in the emergency department, without much medical device implantation, welcomed its own ”pharma rep”!

Lu Cheng said: ”General Manager Qin, why don’t you mention that your company’s selling price is half higher than other companies’?”

”Can your company’s suture data be half better in every aspect than others’?”

Qin Yueru had long known Lu Cheng was an ”outsider,” one who didn’t easily yield: ”Director Lu, are you joking?”

”If all the data were half higher, that quality would be several grades superior; there’s nothing like this currently in clinics.”

”Every parameter, as long as it’s higher, the cost would be higher too, not to mention research investment, etc.”

”Actually, prices are set from above.”

Lu Cheng nodded: ”True, I can’t determine the price, but I can see the price.”

”If you ever align your suture prices with others’, I’d use them every day.”

”Otherwise, please don’t say anything further.”

”The price gap is a third; if I got injured, I might not dare to use it.”

”I can’t afford it.”

Qin Yueru directly said, ”Director Lu, it’s actually a matter of proportion, do you want to name a figure directly?”

It was only at the end of April that Qin Yueru noted last month the emergency department used seven or eight hundred stitches!

Which is not inferior to a specialty’s monthly consumption.

One suture costing over a hundred, seven or eight hundred stitches amount to a business volume of tens of thousands.

”Can you offer ninety percent?” Lu Cheng asked with a smile.

Qin Yueru’s pretty face immediately changed: ”Director Lu must be joking.”

”Knowing it’s a joke, don’t bother joking then.”

”I don’t need that pocket change.”

”Director Dai knows, for people like us, being a doctor is a hobby; our monthly salary isn’t even as much as interest from savings.”

”I can’t be bothered to get provoked.”

Dai Linfang nodded, playing the role of a sidekick thoroughly: ”Indeed, even if you give him five percent a month, it’d only be interest money.”

”He’s a genuine second generation.”

Qin Yueru swallowed and examined Lu Cheng from top to bottom, then continued: ”Director Lu, having money is one thing, but who minds having more?”

”Just consider it buying you a meal box.”

Tens of thousands, five percent of that is over five thousand!

In reality, Qin Yueru’s bottom line was eleven percent, willing to return eleven thousand to Lu Cheng.

After all, the volume is significant.

Ten thousand yuan of business would elevate her commission to a different level, she’s willing to return all the biggest profits to Lu Cheng.

”No one minds more, my wife invests at home.”

”Enough, enough, don’t say anything further.”

”Don’t talk money with me.” Lu Cheng acted somewhat seriously: ”Talk quality, talk price.”

”Go find someone from another department. I can’t use your price.”

Qin Yueru suddenly gritted her teeth: ”Director Lu, if you have other requests, we can talk about them too!”

”I’m asking you to leave!”

”I’ve already saved plenty of face.”

Only then did Qin Yueru turn and leave.

Dai Linfang then raised his head: ”Xiao Lu, this little Qin is obviously a fresh graduate, still quite green in talking and doing things.”

”Actually, as men, a little sneaky behavior now and then is no problem.”

Lu Cheng looked at Dai Linfang with disdain, his tone sharp: ”I wonder why you’re so bad at your job, TM, always thinking about women rather than learning skills?”

”The key is you think about it but never get anywhere!”

Dai Linfang’s face changed swiftly: ”What did you say?”

”If you understood well, fine; if not, just pretend it never happened.”

”Bad and likes to play, but can’t even play well.” Lu Cheng rolled his eyes.

Dai Linfang immediately begged for mercy: ”Sorry, bro, big brother, I know I was wrong, I won’t tease you with this topic again.”

”I know your relationship with your wife is very good, childhood sweethearts, innocent companions.”

”Some people pretend to love purely, play purely, but you genuinely do.”

Dai Linfang promptly apologized, not daring to test Lu Cheng’s limits anymore.

Because honesty hurts the most.

In Lu Cheng’s view, Dai Linfang is indeed bad.

Dai Linfang is indeed bad and likes to play.

Career-wise, except for a Ph.D., Dai Linfang can’t compare to Lu Cheng.

Relationships.

Not worth mentioning.

Xie Yuan’an is like a piece of rock, so pure that Dai Linfang feels like hitting her.

...

At the trauma center, Zhang Zixu looked at the unfamiliar middle-aged man in front of him with suspicion, fully on guard.

”Why are you asking all these? Who are you? I can’t tell you the surgery counts in our department.”

Xiang Yaojun continued with a smiling face: ”Doctor, I was just asking casually, I used to be a patient here, now transferred to trauma surgery ward.”

Hearing Xiang Yaojun say this, Zhang Zixu’s brow relaxed: ”Our trauma center doesn’t have an exact surgery count.”

”Sometimes one or two, sometimes seven or eight, sometimes over a dozen.”

”This month, on average, there’ve been five or six difficult surgeries each day.”

As Zhang Zixu spoke, he quickly glanced at Xiang Yaojun, moving toward someone: ”Professor Dong, off work?”

”Have you eaten?”

Dong Liumeng nodded: ”I had a box meal in the overtime room, is there any forthcoming surgery?”

Zhang Zixu quickly responded: ”Yes, but it’s Director Lu’s.”

”Director Lu mentioned to send you the bill when you go home to eat.”

”Dr. Chen also went to the operating room.”

Dong Liumeng only handles very common surgeries, like cholecystectomy, appendicitis — more standard small surgeries.

If it’s Professor Qu Daowen, then he manages urgent surgeries such as gallbladder preservation, spleen repair surgery.

Occasionally can perform intestinal repair surgery.

”Okay, I’ll just send it to him when the time comes.” Dong Liumeng planned to deal with it again.

”Please don’t, Professor Dong, send it to me, Director Lu has checked my tasks a few times.”

”You haven’t sent it to Director Lu, I’ve been criticized several times.” Zhang Zixu said very understandingly.

”No more chatter, I’m heading back.”

”You have to advise Lu Cheng to rest properly, surgeries are never-ending.”

”Pulling through daily like this, even youth can’t handle.”

”It’s already the seventh, if he doesn’t go back, tomorrow is the eighth, his turn again...” Dong Liumeng walked out.

Zhang Zixu chuckled: ”Professor Dong, remember to send it, it’s also our sentiment, thank you for your hard work.”

Zhang Zixu turned back, discovering that the middle-aged man hadn’t left.

”Who is this professor?”

Zhang Zixu replied: ”Professor Dong Liumeng from Provincial People’s Hospital.”

”He’s a professor from Provincial People’s Hospital? Can he perform damage limb preservation surgery?” Xiang Yaojun’s eyes flashed.

Zhang Zixu seriously examined Xiang Yaojun several times: ”In our hospital, currently only Director Lu can perform this surgery.”

”The two professors from Provincial People’s Hospital helping us wouldn’t know how.”

”Who exactly are you?”

Xiang Yaojun was taken aback: ”Ah? They’re not professors? They don’t know either?”

Zhang Zixu tightened his expression: ”You ask me? Who should I ask then?”

Zhang Zixu turned, speaking seriously: ”Don’t follow along, if you’re a patient’s family member, go find the person you need to care for.”

”If you’re an outsider, don’t disturb the trauma center’s order...”

Xiang Yaojun’s complex gaze was fixed in place, full of complications.

There was regret, unwillingness, loneliness, realization...

What Zhang Zixu said matched exactly with what he’d inquired in the hospital these past few days.

This is fate.
