System Came When the Doctor was Thirty

”I’m going to work at Union Hospital, and up to now I personally haven’t used any of their resources.”

”But I’ve already fed quite a lot back to them.”

”What’s more, what I’m doing now is actually also feeding back!” Lu Cheng’s tone was firm.

After speaking, Lu Cheng took a teacup for himself as well, slowly pouring the tea from the pot; the sound of the water rustled and then gurgled.

Steam curled upward in thin spirals!

Dai Linfang had no trouble reading what Lu Cheng meant: ”The way you put it is weird as hell but feels so damn natural.”

”How many people in this world are like you, both a ’folk scientist’ and a specialist?”

”Folk scientist” refers to people who use their own delusions to fabricate scientific principles or smear scientific principles; it has no direct relation to education, status, or level of schooling.

Folk scientists often don’t follow the rules of conventional scientific research, and don’t use scientific experimental methods for their work…

Lu Cheng hasn’t gone through formal, structured training in research.

But Lu Cheng is also a specialist: relying on Mu Nanshu and Chen Song, many of Lu Cheng’s current projects are well-grounded, advancing strictly according to the most standard research methods.

Whether it’s the development or validation of the Suturing Technique, all of it comes with detailed data.

Theory first, then technique, then validation with animal models, and then clinical application.

For these papers, the corresponding author is of course Lu Cheng, but they also have a first author.

For some Suturing Technique papers, the first author’s affiliation is Union Hospital.

The unit these Suturing Techniques belong to is also Union—

As long as Lu Cheng goes to work at Union Hospital in the future, Union is basically picking it up for free.

Lu Cheng hasn’t even used Union Hospital’s PhD or Master’s training resources!

Mu Nanshu is also from Union Hospital, and the articles she publishes can likewise feed back into Union Hospital!!!

”Anyway, I’ll give it a shot.”

”This is something that needs to be said. Even though the person I most want to tell first is Professor Chen Song, I still have to tell Union Hospital in the end.”

”You can keep your head down while you work, but you can’t keep your head down as a person forever.”

”Union Hospital is too big. If I don’t take the initiative to report my results to them, they won’t actively allocate any attention to me!”

Lu Cheng knew his own status: he’s not some big expert yet, nor part of some key project team where the hospital will constantly track your project progress and output.

”Like this? That works too!~”

”But are you sure you can get people who do severe limb trauma to come to State People’s Hospital?” Dai Linfang asked the practical question.

At Union Hospital, the surgeons who can perform Limb Preservation Surgery for destructive injuries are definitely not small fry.

”Like I said, telling kids about immortality, they’re too young; telling middle-aged and elderly people, that hits the age sweet spot.”

”Right now, for the big project of broad functional reconstruction we still lack the foundation. Naturally the next step is to lay the groundwork in specific Functional Reconstruction Skill directions first.”

”Motor function reconstruction is also an important component of reconstruction techniques.”

”There will be people willing to come. This is collaboration!~” Lu Cheng spoke with confidence.

”Then why are they coming to you instead of you going to them?” Dai Linfang asked again.

”I have my own work. I’m the one heading these projects. If they don’t come, can’t I just find someone else?” Lu Cheng lifted his chin with a hint of arrogance, his tone casual.

”You make it sound like you can even improve Limb Preservation Surgery for destructive injuries?” Dai Linfang shook his head; he really couldn’t see where Lu Cheng’s confidence came from.

Lu Cheng just smiled and said nothing.

Dai Linfang suddenly sat up straight, his gluteus maximus tightening; he could practically feel his own chrysanthemum twitching: ”Don’t tell me…?”

”You’re about to give birth again?”

Lu Cheng shook his head: ”Not yet. I just have some ideas in that direction.”

”Just having an idea is already more than enough!~”

Any technique—starting it in clinical practice, getting it to mature, and then improving it—needs a long period of evolution.

At present, Limb Preservation Surgery for destructive injuries is already mature, but that doesn’t mean it can’t be improved.

The Tang Method for tendon suturing can be improved; joint replacement can be improved; aortic replacement can be improved.

Then Limb Preservation Surgery for destructive injuries can be improved as well!

Drugs can be improved, classic theories can be supplemented…

This is clinical medicine: there is never a ceiling.

”Me?”

”I…”

”What kind of colossal dumb luck did I stumble into? I just crashed straight into you like this?” Dai Linfang was a genius.

A genuine, no-qualifiers genius.

Even people like Mu Nanshu and Xie Yuan’an acknowledged him as a genius.

Professor Xie Xiao was full of praise for Dai Linfang, and Professor Chen Song, when facing Dai Linfang, would even admit he was inferior.

But—

Maybe only a genius knows just how big the gap is between his so‑called ”genius” title and another person.

This really fits that saying.

If you’re not a genius, meeting Lu Cheng is like a frog at the bottom of a well looking at the moon in the sky!

If you are a genius, able to step through this door, seeing me Lu Cheng is like a single mayfly looking up at the clear heavens!

Dai Linfang muttered again in a tangled tone: ”What kind of rotten luck did I have to run into you, this damn harbinger of disaster?”

”What do you even need me for?” Dai Linfang’s mental Dao really was starting to crack.

He looked at Lu Cheng, and his defenses genuinely broke: ”Why does it have to be like this every time?”

”Why is it always like this, every single time?”

Lu Cheng couldn’t understand why Dai Linfang suddenly went a little off the deep end: ”Huh?”

”What are you talking about?”

Dai Linfang leaned back, hands on his hips: ”I’m asking you, why does it have to be like this every time?”

”Every time I start to feel like I might finally be useful, that I can be useful, that I can actually do something, that I’m about to crawl up onto shore…”

”You kick me off with one damn stomp, make me look like some fucking piece of trash?”
