System Came When the Doctor was Thirty

Clinical trials aren’t child’s play, and conducting research is far from pretending.

What Lu Cheng mentioned isn’t even like what he’s currently doing, bringing together Dai Linfang and a group of young people who are recklessly experimenting on impulse.

Just maintaining the atmosphere by playing on sentiments.

At this moment, a waiter came in from outside to refill the tea and boil the water, displaying tea ceremony skills with nimble hands.

This gave Lu Cheng time to organize his thoughts.

The young woman’s tea ceremony skills were merely skilled, not the best Lu Cheng had encountered. Luxurious but impractical, good for viewing only.

Luo Yong and Yao Xin remained silent, smoking leisurely, with a subdued demeanor.

Dai Linfang, on the other hand, pinched his thumb and index finger of his right hand in a thinking gesture.

Although this proposal was drafted by Lu Cheng, in reality, Dai Linfang was more excited about it than Lu Cheng.

Dai Linfang was never one to follow rules; his ideas and desires often exceeded his abilities. He preferred challenges over routine.

Since the proposal existed, there was potential. Though difficult to implement, he would rather fully engage in it.

He absolutely loathed compromising, just being barely satisfied as if that were enough.

Therefore, Lu Cheng’s proposal was just the kind of refreshing relief his restless heart needed.

About five to six minutes later, the tea artist spoke softly, ”Everyone, please take your time to appreciate it.”

Then she crossed her hands over her stomach and turned, tending to the smoldering end of the incense before finally closing the private room door.

At this point, Lu Cheng spoke truthfully, ”Dean Luo, I can’t give you an answer right now to what you just said.”

”I don’t even know who will come.”

”However, if it’s people I can’t manage, I can directly ask them to leave.”

Of course, Lu Cheng couldn’t provide answers, only show his bottom line.

Luo Yong was taken aback, ”Leave?”

”Dr. Lu, inviting someone in is easy, but sending them away is hard, isn’t it?”

”Don’t be misled by your youth into thinking you can control everything.”

Yao Xin knew Luo Yong was not very familiar with Lu Cheng, so he offered an easy way out for him, ”Why don’t you explain in detail the role you can take on, so Dean Luo has a baseline.”

Lu Cheng nodded, ”Dean Luo.”

”I’m just a junior attending physician. Those who would come, if they are professors or associate professors, are mostly those I’m on good terms with.”

”Those with average relations, wouldn’t bother to elevate me.”

”If it’s just an attending physician, generally they aren’t very old. Since they’re not old, then I can lay the cards on the table upfront.”

”That’s the first point.”

”Secondly, this topic isn’t about benchmarking domestic research groups or gaining domestic prominence.”

”My current task is to lead in the field of hepatobiliary surgery, and it’s about racing against international research groups...”

Luo Yong gestured to pause, ”Xiao Lu, you’re now speaking with me and Yao Xin, not with them.”

”You don’t need to demonstrate the language skills you’ve picked up from us.”

”Talking about international integration requires considering the actual situation, our hospital isn’t like Union or Huashan Hospitals. Saying that out loud would be laughed at.”

Lu Cheng replied, ”Dean Luo, I’m not joking!”

”The issuing body for this topic is the Ministry of Science and Technology.”

Lu Cheng’s words suddenly drew in a sharp breath from the others, all eyes focused on Lu Cheng.

Their gaze interwoven, seemingly wanting to dissect Lu Cheng to observe his anxiety.

But everything Lu Cheng said was true.

As for how this research topic came about, Lu Cheng wasn’t sure himself; it just landed on his desk, merely for engagement’s sake.

Dai Linfang whispered, ”Don’t tell me, your recent trip to Kyoto wasn’t just about learning.”

Lu Cheng replied, ”My trips to Huaxi, Xiangya, and Zhongnan Hospital were for learning.”

”Going to Kyoto was solely for meeting people.”

Dai Linfang’s tone was slightly sarcastic, ”Why didn’t I know?”

Lu Cheng treated Dai Linfang like a stranger he just met, ”Even Mu Nanshu found out only recently, what gave you the right to know earlier?”

”Why would I have any qualification to tell you?”

Luo Yong felt his mind temporarily stalled, ”Hold on, what did you just say, what is the Ministry of Science and Technology in regards to this topic?”

Having detailed understanding, Lu Cheng explained, ”Currently, many projects and proposals that our research teams undertake come from the Natural Science Foundation Committee, which is a department of the Ministry of Science or Ministry of Science and Technology.”

Luo Yong turned to Yao Xin, ”Do you know this?”

Yao Xin immediately shook his head, raising his hand to vow, ”Dean Luo, I haven’t heard a single whisper of this.”

”Even Dai Linfang, who works in the same group as Lu Cheng, is kept in the dark...”

Luo Yong then looked at Lu Cheng again, ”Since they don’t know, how can I be sure whether what you’re saying is true or false?”

Lu Cheng shook his head, ”Dean Luo, you can’t be sure, and I can’t make you sure either.”

”This topic doesn’t have a designated recipient unit!”

”But if you’re willing, you can investigate it; you should be able to find it.”

Medical research topics aren’t confidential, and the level of confidentiality isn’t very high.

People within the system should be able to find the project initiation.

After all, at its core, medical work is a public welfare project, not classified technology.

”Then how did you get your hands on it?” Luo Yong asked again.

He needed to clarify the situation.

”A professor from Kyoto gave it to me, called Professor Lu. This Professor Lu was introduced by a friend of mine,” Lu Cheng said.

”Who?” Luo Yong asked persistently.

Lu Cheng answered, ”A patient who had surgery before, back when I was working in Long County.”

Yao Xin’s eyes flashed immediately, turning to whisper lightly in Luo Yong’s ear.
