Super Gene Hunting Ground

”If Witch Star isn’t the supreme ruler of the universe, then who is?”

Yang Xiao looked at Qin Lu, feeling as if his worldview—no, his universal view—had been overturned time and again.

Back when he was on Earth, due to Earth’s technological limitations, there was so much he didn’t know about the cosmic starry sky.

Qin Lu chuckled and said,

”This topic is too heavy, too big. I’ll chat with you about it when it’s more convenient. By the way, why did you think of starting a mining venture?”

Yang Xiao looked at Qin Lu and said with a smile:

”Are you thinking of starting a business?”

Qin Lu was a rich second-generation heir who had always been teased by his family and father about taking over and living off his parents. Deep down, he always wanted to do something significant to show his father and the rest of his family that he wasn’t just a good-for-nothing relying on his predecessors.

This is almost a common problem among rich second-generations; on one hand, they heavily depend on their family’s advantageous conditions to live a life of leisure, while on the other hand, their strong sense of pride drives them to accomplish something significant that would make people around them look at them with new respect.

”Of course, I want to. I’m not just some young master who only knows how to live off his parents, bro, I do have some shame,”

Qin Lu said somewhat awkwardly.

”Good, once I’ve got a plan, I’ll pull you into the venture, starting a mine. We’ll make it the biggest base on Purple Origin Star, the largest mining field—surpass that Huang guy, what do you say?”

Yang Xiao presented a grand vision to Qin Lu.

Qin Lu laughed upon hearing this and reached out to touch Yang Xiao’s forehead, saying,

”You don’t have a fever, do you?”

Yang Xiao swatted away Qin Lu’s hand and said,

”Stop touching me, I’m not interested in men.”

Qin Lu: ”...”

”Do you have any research materials or books about Purple Origin Star here that you can lend me to read?”

”Those materials and books are all on Witch Star, on Purple Origin Star. They’re used by mining businessmen. Karachi City doesn’t even have a bookstore. Hmm, let me check my Space Ring. I remember I brought a book about the mystery of the natives on Purple Origin Star before coming here.”

Qin Lu took out a Jade Token from his Space Ring and handed it to Yang Xiao.

Yang Xiao took it and saw the words ”Tribes of Purple Origin Star” on it.

This was a book from Witch Star. There was a button on it, and when Yang Xiao pressed it, a holographic virtual information image appeared in front of him. Text, sound, physical patterns, and so on were all presented in front of his eyes.

Yang Xiao slowly read through it, while Qin Lu explained the knowledge he didn’t understand beside him.

It took Yang Xiao about an hour to finish all the information stored in the Jade Token, just like watching a movie on Earth.

After playing a game of Go, David and Elder Qin returned to the inn. Yang Xiao noticed that both their faces didn’t look very good.

”Dad, War God has called you guys for a meeting, is there any big issue?”

Qin Lu asked.

Elder Qin sighed and said,

”War God is shocked by the warfare of the Great Dragon Empire and, demanding more mining to cultivate warriors using Purple Origin Ore as a pretext, has asked us to mine as much as possible. At the same time, he has also demanded that our private mines shift from a previous profit split of 60/40 to a 50/50 split, giving up an extra tenth of the Crystal Stone Mine profits to the Empire. Alas, our earnings will decline from now on.”

Beside him, David said,

”Elder Qin, stop crying poor. Even if it’s another 20% increase, it won’t affect you much. You’ve made enough over the years, right?”

Elder Qin glared at David and said:

”Brother David, it’s easy for you to say, not having to bend your back. I run a private mining operation; all the expenses fall on me to cover. You’re assigned by the Imperial government. You don’t have to worry about a thing, whether you do well or poorly, you still get your share of the profits, sigh!”

”Cut it out, with the little that we earn in bonuses, you probably make enough from the change that falls through the cracks in your fingers.”

”Alright, enough nonsense. Brother David, what do you think about the War God’s encouragement to explore and open new mines?”

Elder Qin changed the subject.

David laughed and said:

”Open a new mine? Easier said than done. The cost of establishing a new mine is enormous and comes with certain risks. I can’t even handle the twenty mines I have now, how can I open more? Where am I supposed to get that many workers?”

Elder Qin glanced at Yang Xiao and said:

”It’s said that a new batch of Miners will soon be transported over from Earth.”

”That won’t be my turn. The Jino City Lord took away more than half of the skilled workers from my mines last time and replaced them with the first batch of workers from Earth. I’m sure I won’t get any from this second batch.”

Yang Xiao was surprised and asked:

”The War God mentioned bringing another group of workers over from Earth?”

David nodded and said:

”Master Yang, you need to stay calm about this. It’s not something you and I can influence. In the future, people from Earth will be brought over continuously, and not only from Earth, they will also transport workers from a few other planets to mine.”

”What, how can it be so soon? When I left, most of the King Level Evolvers from Earth had already arrived. The second batch of King Level Evolvers should also be half a year away, right?”

”Correct. At the current training speed, Earth can produce a batch of King Level Evolvers every six months or so, many of whom will be sent here to mine.”

Hearing this, a chill rose in Yang Xiao’s heart. He now completely understood the purpose behind the Witch Star people conquering Earth and directing everyone towards Genetic Evolution.

They were just breeding batch after batch of Miners to extract ore here.

The thought that the rulers of Witch Star would not hesitate to kill billions of people on Earth just to train a group of Miners made him shiver inside.

Seeing Yang Xiao’s somewhat agitated expression, David and Elder Qin fell silent as well.

David and his family were citizens of Witch Star, but as people of lower to middle social standing, the invasion of Earth was not something within their control. Before they knew Yang Xiao, it didn’t really matter to them; after all, they were accustomed to invading other planets.

But now that they had become friends with Yang Xiao, they felt somewhat sad for his suffering on a personal level, at least they wouldn’t show happiness.

Yang Xiao paused for a second and snapped back from his agitation. Now was not a time for agitation. He couldn’t influence the fate of Earth’s people; he could only let the likes of Long Wei dictate the transportation of Earthlings as they pleased.

Moreover, he thought that perhaps in the next batch of arrivals, friends like Gong Yu, Xia Luo, Long Yongjun, Lan Xin, and Huang Wen might also come, wouldn’t that be a perfect reunion on Purple Origin Star?

Yang Xiao gave a bitter smile and said:

”You don’t need to feel sad for me. In fact, it’s good that more people from Earth are brought over; maybe I can reunite with some old friends here. After all, I won’t be able to return to Earth in this life anyway.”

David and others then comforted Yang Xiao:

”Master Yang, don’t worry, once we help you obtain Witch Star’s official ID, who knows, you might even be assigned to rule over Earth in the future.”

”I hope so, haha!”

Yang Xiao knew they were just trying to console him and could only give a wry laugh.
