Super Gene Hunting Ground

The spaceship landed near the river in the center of the city.

It was an isolated courtyard with a private riverbank, enclosed by walls and quite extensive.

The spaceship landed directly on an open plaza within the courtyard.

”Master Yang, we’ve arrived.”

The portly man led Yang Xiao out of the spaceship.

Yang Xiao took a glance and smiled:

”Can you tell me now where this is?”

”Actually, there’s nothing to hide. Your friend would guess as soon as seeing this spaceship; this is the residence of the Jino City Lord. In Karachi City, only the personal spaceship of the City Lord is allowed to fly, even Master Xue Rong’s personal spaceship cannot fly within the city.”

The portly man said proudly.

”Looks like the City Lord is looking for me?”

”Hehe, you’ll know in a moment.”

The portly man chuckled mysteriously and led Yang Xiao further in.

After passing several residences, they reached a garden.

There was a pond in the garden, and alongside it a pavilion, a middle-aged man facing the pond, with his back towards Yang Xiao and the others.

The portly man approached with Yang Xiao, bowed deeply to the figure of the middle-aged man, and whispered:

”Master, Master Yang has been brought here.”

Yang Xiao stood inside the pavilion, about three meters away from the middle-aged man. There was a stone table in the center of the pavilion, with a chessboard on top. He glanced at it; it was the last game he played with the portly man yesterday, where he, holding black, defeated the portly man.

The middle-aged man, still with his back to Yang Xiao, said softly:

”Was this the game you played yesterday with my subordinate?”

Yang Xiao nodded.

”Play a game with me? Choose either black or white, the same game as yesterday.”

”Okay.”

Yang Xiao did not hesitate.

The middle-aged man nodded, then instructed the portly man:

”Reset the chessboard.”

”Yes, Master.”

The portly man removed the chessboard from the stone table and took out a new chessboard from his Space Ring. Then he and the elder sat opposite each other, their Divine Sense slightly moving. White and black pieces started to fall rapidly, setting up the game just like yesterday in the blink of an eye.

The portly man and the elder got up and left.

”Master, the game is ready.”

”Mhm, Young Master Yang, please choose first.”

Yang Xiao, unceremoniously, sat down and said:

”I choose black.”

”Good, black moves first.”

Yang Xiao’s Divine Sense slightly stirred, moving a black piece onto the chessboard.

The portly man and the elder, standing on the side, blurted out,

”Master Yang, you didn’t make this move yesterday!”

Yang Xiao: ”@#￥%”

Who the hell told you I was going to move exactly like yesterday?

”Hehe, everything in the world is like a chess game, always renewing. I’ve already forgotten how I moved yesterday.”

Yang Xiao spoke calmly, with a pretentious aura emanating.

The middle-aged man still didn’t turn around but nodded and said,

”Young Master Yang is indeed an expert.”

After that, a white piece leaped out from the chess box and landed on the board.

The middle-aged man, without turning around, could control the chess pieces so precisely on the board, which showed his immense spiritual power.

Yang Xiao didn’t mind that, and immediately started to duel with him.

The middle-aged man’s chess skill was indeed higher than the portly man’s, but not by much.

After making a dozen or so moves, Yang Xiao finally placed a critical black piece.

Hiss!

The middle-aged man quickly put a spike into his own mind, tensing up immediately.

The portly man and the elder, watching the changing situation on the chessboard, also started to get inexplicably nervous.

The middle-aged man began a desperate counterattack, his white pieces continuously intercepting and surrounding the black pieces, but Yang Xiao resolved them with several brilliant moves.

Ten moves later, Yang Xiao began to gradually capture the white pieces.

Sweat started to bead on the forehead of the middle-aged man.

The three onlookers appeared even more nervous than their master, wiping sweat continuously, not daring to breathe heavily.

After another ten moves, Yang Xiao essentially secured the victory.

The space around the middle-aged man started to slightly ripple, his Divine Sense becoming unstable.

A white piece hovered over the chessboard, unable to be placed for a long time.

”Sigh!”

The middle-aged man let out a long sigh, and the white piece fell with a ”pop,” rolling twice on the board.

”I lost; Young Master Yang is indeed a great chess player.”

Yang Xiao watched the middle-aged man’s receding figure, thinking, ”Damn it, he’s always pretending, won’t even turn to face me properly?”

”Heh, I just got lucky.”

”Ha ha, can this really be explained away by good luck?”

Yang Xiao was speechless and simply accepted it.

”Did Young Master Yang come from Earth?”

”Yes.”

”Are you a miner under Station Master David?”

”Yes.”

”David is applying for a temporary ID for you, but you got into a fight with one of his subordinates recently and killed him. The temporary ID is now unable to be processed.”

Yang Xiao was stunned; how did this man know so much about him?

On second thought, since he’s the Jino City Lord, David probably had to submit the temporary ID application documents to him, so it’s normal for him to know my information.

”The fight was a fair private duel; I accidentally hurt him in a moment of carelessness.”

”The reason is not important; the outcome is what matters. I’ll give you two choices. One, continue working as a miner under David; it will take another year to get a temporary ID,”

”What’s the second option?” Yang Xiao asked.

”The second option is simple: come to Karachi City, play chess with me, like those three.”

The middle-aged man referred naturally to the three stout men, who were presumably companions for playing chess.

From another perspective, they were actually helping the middle-aged man enhance his spiritual power.

Yang Xiao hesitated for a moment and said:

”Thank you for the offer, but I’d rather return to the base.”

The three stout men immediately looked at Yang Xiao in surprise, as if he had refused an incredible opportunity, and they seemed deeply pained.

The middle-aged man seemed surprised as well.

”Why? Is it not better to stay with me than with David?”

”There are a dozen brothers who traveled with me to Purple Origin Star. We made a pact to stick together and never leave each other.”

The reason was somewhat far-fetched, but the middle-aged man didn’t force Yang Xiao, slightly displeased, and said dismissively:

”Fine, you can go.”

The stout man immediately said to Yang Xiao:

”Master Yang, please follow me.”

Yang Xiao bowed to the back of the middle-aged man:

”I’ll take my leave!”

Then turned and followed the stout man.

The old man saw Yang Xiao leaving the small garden and bowed to the middle-aged man.

”Master, why don’t you keep him? He could at least help you train your spiritual power?”

”This young man is too arrogant. Perhaps he hasn’t been on Purple Origin Star long enough to face reality. He still thinks they are kings like on Earth.

I don’t like overly arrogant people; playing chess with such a person would feel awkward. Let him suffer in the mines for a bit longer.”

The old man was silent.

The stout man accompanied Yang Xiao on a spaceship, flying towards the Gorge Sunset Inn.

Along the way, the stout man looked at Yang Xiao with regret as if he had missed a great opportunity.

The spaceship landed in front of the inn, and the stout man walked with Yang Xiao off the ship, finally bursting out with a question:

”Master Yang, why did you refuse my master? It was a great opportunity for you, at least it could change your status as a miner slave, securing a comfortable life and some social status. Isn’t that better than working in the mine?”

Yang Xiao smiled faintly and said:

”Your master isn’t the city lord, is he?”

The stout man said nothing.

”When two people play chess, regardless of their skill level or status, once they sit in front of the chessboard, they are equals. Do you agree with this as a chess player?”

Taken aback, the stout man looked at Yang Xiao and then silently nodded.

”Your master never once turned around to face me, his attitude high and mighty as if he was looking down on the world. How could he truly respect me?

If I’m not mistaken, since you started following your master, your chess skills haven’t improved, right?”

The stout man trembled, shocked at Yang Xiao’s insight,

”How did you know?”

”Heh, simple. In front of your master, you always have the mindset of a servant, cautious and timid. How could you possibly extend boldly across the chessboard, conquering all sides?”

The stout man’s eyes lit up, as if he saw the light in the darkness, staring at Yang Xiao.

Yang Xiao waved his hand and walked into the inn.

The stout man stood still, pondering over Yang Xiao’s words, and after a long while, he chuckled bitterly,

”Listening to your words is better than playing chess for ten years!”
