Super Gene Hunting Ground

The chubby man stared blankly at Yang Xiao, his eyes revealing an unusual expression.

To Yang Xiao, it appeared to be an expression of pain.

”I believe you can definitely turn the game around. I’m rooting for you, keep it up!”

Yang Xiao chuckled.

Qin Lu glanced at Yang Xiao and said:

”Are you crazy? It’s clear that the black pieces are losing, and the white pieces are winning. Are you still betting on black to win?”

”Why care about winning or losing? As long as everyone is happy.”

Yang Xiao smiled faintly.

The chubby man, afraid that others would also bet on black, hurriedly said:

”Okay, thank you both for your support. I’ll do my best, but don’t blame me if I lose. Let’s start.”

After the chubby man finished speaking, his Divine Sense flickered slightly, and a black piece jumped out from the chess altar and landed on the chessboard.

The opposing side, Station Chief Zhao, also quickly placed a white piece.

People around were watching the chessboard intently, afraid of missing any moves.

At the beginning, Station Chief Zhao’s white pieces continuously attacked the black pieces, seemingly about to consume a whole area of black.

However, the chubby man smiled slightly and placed a black piece in another inconspicuous area, directly giving up the contest for that region.

Station Chief Zhao smiled faintly and said:

”Are you conceding?”

He placed a white piece that cut off a line of black pieces.

The chubby man remained calm and composed, immediately placing another piece elsewhere,

then, the onlookers suddenly felt as if their minds exploded with a buzzing sound.

Especially Station Chief Zhao, who felt his mind jolt, as if an arrow had shot into his spiritual power realm, causing a sudden pain in his heart.

The two black pieces the chubby man had placed earlier suddenly took the initiative in an empty area.

Station Chief Zhao sweated profusely from his forehead, thought for a moment, and placed a white piece to intercept the black.

However, the initiative of the two black pieces was already formed. After the chubby man placed the third black piece, it even started to connect with a nearby cluster of black pieces.

In the next dozen moves, the black pieces launched a fierce attack, driving the white pieces back step by step, continuously capturing three white pieces, directly losing the contest over the vacant area.

At this moment, Station Chief Zhao’s Divine Sense was unstable, his spiritual power fluctuated, and he was sweating profusely.

Most of the onlookers had placed bets, and they were all dumbfounded.

The hall was dead silent, only the ”clack clack” of the pieces being placed.

Suddenly, everyone realized the chubby man’s chess skills were incredibly sophisticated, with unexpected brilliant moves that often revitalized seemingly dead situations, dazzling the spectators.

After dozens more moves, not only did the black pieces seize the initiative throughout the game, but they also linked several isolated dead stones into a coherent group, turning dead stones into live ones.

With this, the victory of the black pieces was nearly certain.

At this moment, Station Chief Zhao was dripping with sweat, his Divine Sense fluctuating violently, like a small boat in a storm, always at risk of capsizing.

Finally, Station Chief Zhao gritted his teeth and said with difficulty:

”I am ashamed, I have lost.”

He stood up and bowed to the chubby man.

The chubby man chuckled and said:

”Winning and losing are common; I was just lucky, thank you for yielding.”

The onlookers, who had watched the entire game, were completely convinced of the chubby man’s superior chess skills. Although they lost their bets, they had nothing to say.

However, the biggest winner wasn’t the chubby man, but Yang Xiao.

The total bet on black pieces was six million Crystal Coins—Yang Xiao three million, the chubby man two million, David one million.

According to the rules, Yang Xiao took half, sharing six million Crystal Coins, leaving the other six million for David to claim one-third, gaining two hundred million, and the chubby man only got four million Crystal Coins.

Everyone settled the transaction, and the chubby man, with piercing eyes, glanced at Yang Xiao and then stood up to leave the Chess Art Hall.

The crowd sighed, discussed the chessboard for a while, and then dispersed.

Qin Lu looked at Yang Xiao, his face awkward, and asked:

”Why did Brother Yang bet on the black pieces? Could it be that you can also solve this situation?”

Yang Xiao chuckled and said:

”I don’t know how to solve this chess game, but one thing is clear, no one has enough money to actively ask to lose to someone else. Would Brother Qin be willing to do such a foolish thing?”

Qin Lu’s face turned red,

”What do you mean by that?”

”It’s simple, anyone can see a losing game, yet that fat man was willing to bet 2 million Crystal Coins, essentially handing out money, which itself is the biggest issue.”

”Why did everyone want to bet on the white pieces winning?”

”Because of human greed, everyone only saw the immediate benefits and were too confident in their own judgment of the situation.

In fact, the black pieces are indeed at a disadvantage, however, that fat man’s chess skills far exceeded everyone else’s, so he had the ability to turn the tables, while we did not.”

”So, he used everyone’s greed and the limitations of their chess skills to set a trap?”

David asked from the side.

Yang Xiao nodded,

”If I’m not wrong, all three of them are together, they designed this chess game together,

think about it, if it weren’t for Station Chief Dai and I joining and getting a share, one game could easily earn them twelve million Crystal Coins, which is much more profitable than running a mine.”

Elder Qin and his son Qin Lu, having heard Yang Xiao’s analysis, immediately held him in high regard and said very respectfully:

”Master Yang truly lives up to be the mentor of Station Chief Dai, impressive, impressive!”

Yang Xiao smiled slightly,

”Nowhere near, I just happened to analyze it correctly, it was good luck. If I had really encountered a rich second generation who squanders his wealth, I would have lost money too, haha.”

Upon hearing this, Qin Lu’s face turned awkward.

What Yang Xiao did not mention was that this kind of scam using a residual game situation was commonplace on Earth.

Previously on the streets, many people would set up a chess endgame and let challengers pick a side to bet on winning or losing.

Many people thought they could win upon seeing such endgames, but after a few moves, they realized they thought too simply and usually ended up losing money.

Often they didn’t even understand how they lost.

Yang Xiao had also played a few such endgames before; each time he thought he could win, but in the end, he always lost.

It was not until he later went to the Kongming City Go Academy and by chance, he talked about it with his junior sister, who immediately set up an endgame for him and let him pick a side.

First, Yang Xiao chose the black pieces and lost.

Then he reviewed the game and chose the white pieces, trying to follow his junior sister’s approach, and still lost.

His junior sister finally told him.

”In any endgame, it ultimately comes down to skill. I am better at chess than you, even if I am at a disadvantage in the endgame, I can still turn it around. That’s the bottom line.”

”What about those endgames on the streets?”

”That depends on two scenarios: in one scenario, his chess skill is indeed better than yours, just like in our case now, no matter which side you choose, you’re going to lose,

but more often, it’s the other scenario where his chess skills might not be better than yours, or even worse, but he can still easily defeat you.”

”Why?”

”It’s simple, the one setting the endgame has thoroughly studied that particular endgame, knows every move how to respond,

in a specific endgame, he might be at a master level,

you only see the game ten moves ahead, but he has analyzed out a hundred moves ahead, can you win?

So, no matter how you play, if your skill is only slightly better than his, or even worse than his, it’s naturally a definite loss.”
