Back To The 80s: President's Doted Wife

Chapter 2046: Chapter 2048: The Scourge That Won’t Die

Cheng Su looked at Mother Qi lying on the hospital bed with an IV drip of nutrients, and let out a sigh.

Not even allowed a peaceful old age—Mother Qi was a living proof of that saying. Her days had been as good as they could be: her children all successful, a grandchild already born, nothing left for her to worry about. It was just the time for her to enjoy life, yet out of nowhere disaster struck and she had to suffer such a calamity.

So lamentable, so pitiful!

She walked over, smoothed down her disheveled hair, and her gaze moved from Mother Qi’s pale face to her hand wrapped in bandages. From now on, she would be missing one finger!

Fortunately, it was the little finger, the one of least use; a stroke of luck within great misfortune.

Qi Taiguo walked in and saw Cheng Su tucking Mother Qi’s hand back under the quilt; his expression unconsciously softened and he went over.

”Got all the paperwork done?” Cheng Su asked quietly when she saw him come in.

”All done. I also called Dad and the others, they said they’re rushing over,” Qi Taiguo said.

Cheng Su made a small sound of acknowledgement. With something like this happening, of course they had to come see for themselves.

At the doorway, Director Chen from the Public Security Bureau appeared. He came in, took one look at Mother Qi, said a few comforting words, and then the few of them went to talk at the door.

”...The other two kidnappers have also been caught and are being interrogated at the bureau. They said Chiang Qing paid them and instigated them to lure her out and kidnap her...” Director Chen briefly summarized the preliminary interrogation results, then said, ”Also, Chiang Qing was shot in the head and is now in the ICU.”

During the rescue, they had arranged a sniper, but setting up took time, so Qi Taiguo and Cheng Su had to stall. In the end, Cheng Su deliberately provoked Chiang Qing; she just hadn’t expected that Chiang Qing would still shove Mother Qi at the last moment.

What kind of mind does a person like that have, that even in death she has to drag someone down with her? Truly beyond saving!

”She didn’t die?” Cheng Su was surprised.

”The bullet hit the frontal lobe of the brain, but it didn’t cause death. Even if she wakes up, she won’t be anywhere near normal, and her mobility will be impaired...” Director Chen said.

”Then don’t save her!” Qi Taiguo was seething with rage.

”Taiguo!” Cheng Su grabbed his hand, then apologized to Director Chen: ”He’s just worked up in the heat of the moment.”

”I understand!” Director Chen didn’t mind, and said, ”From a humanitarian standpoint, since she’s alive, we can’t just leave her to die. All the legal procedures that need to be followed will be followed. Even though she’s in critical care now, we’ve assigned people to guard her. Don’t worry, she will face legal punishment!”

Kidnapping and causing grievous bodily harm—this was no petty crime.

Cheng Su said, ”We’ll have to trouble you with all this, Director Chen!”

Director Chen nodded and said, ”We’ll have colleagues come over to take your statements. When the time comes, we’ll need your cooperation!”

”All right, we’ll fully cooperate!” Cheng Su saw him out with a smile. When she turned back, she saw Qi Taiguo slam a fist into the wall, and hurried over to grab him: ”What are you doing?”

Honestly, with nowhere to vent his anger, did he really have to hurt himself!

”What kind of demon is she, taking a bullet and still hanging on? Why won’t she just go to hell? It’s so unfair!” Qi Taiguo couldn’t make sense of it.

Cheng Su said, ”There’s a saying: ’The good die young, while evil lives for a thousand years.’ Just take her for the scourge that she is!”

She was shocked too. Chiang Qing’s fortune should have been terrible, yet at certain moments her luck wasn’t bad at all. Like now. Like how everyone she leaned on ended up collapsing, yet she could always find a new backer.

”I refuse to accept this.”

”I’ll say it again: she’d be better off dead. Since she didn’t die now, the suffering and torment she’ll face in the future will only multiply, whether it’s from the law or from personal grudges!” Cheng Su looked at him and said.

Qi Taiguo said coldly, ”I’ll just wait and see whether there is such a thing as justice in this world!”
