Back To The 80s: President's Doted Wife

Chapter 1798: Chapter 1800: Resignation Request

Qiulan soon went to Cheng Su’s home with her older sister Qiumei and Qiumei’s son, egg. Just as Qi Xiaoqi woke up, the two kids could play together.

Cheng Su served them a glass of lemon water and a plate of watermelon, saying, ”It’s not yet Mid-Autumn, and the weather is still hot, enjoy some watermelon to quench your thirst.”

”You’re always so polite,” Qiumei complimented with a smile.

Cheng Su said, ”We’re all neighbors, what’s there to be polite about?” She then looked at Qiulan and asked, ”How’s your pregnancy going? Is everything alright? You should have told me earlier, why did you keep it a secret until now? If I hadn’t seen you today, when were you planning to tell me?”

Qiulan took a small piece of watermelon and bit into it, saying, ”The pregnancy has been fine, which is why I didn’t mention it. It’s not that I wanted to hide it from you, I just thought since it’s not obvious, it’s okay not to say anything.”

”But you shouldn’t have, working in the restaurant isn’t easy,” Cheng Su chided.

Qiulan said, ”I actually find it alright; I don’t need to do heavy lifting, just writing menus for the guests.”

Cheng Su disagreed, saying in a restaurant, you walk back and forth, and if a guest spills tea and you’re not careful, you could slip. Not to mention, as a floor manager, you often have to communicate with the chefs in the kitchen, which can be a slippery area.

”But now I want to discuss with you, Sister Su. It’s not that I’m afraid of hard work; it’s just that standing with a big belly writing menus in front of guests is not very dignified and impacts my image. I discussed with Xiao Jiang and my father-in-law about whether I should resign from this position,” Qiulan looked at Cheng Su and said.

Cheng Su then asked, ”What do you think?”

”Our family situation is decent now, Xiao Jiang and my father-in-law want me to rest at home and take care of my pregnancy. They said we don’t need my salary,” Qiulan said, gently touching her belly, with a face full of happiness. Clearly, her husband and father-in-law treat her very well.

Cheng Su nodded. Old Song and the others hold shares in the restaurant, so they indeed don’t have financial worries. Now that his wife is pregnant, Song Xiaojang, being an only son, is naturally anxious. It’s not surprising they have such thoughts, so she asked, ”What do you think?”

”Sister Su, I really like this job. Getting here hasn’t been easy, starting with just us two managing, to now... so in my heart, I want to work until the baby is born. But as my belly grows bigger, my appearance really isn’t ideal, and my uniform doesn’t fit,” Qiulan said with a blush, ”You know Xiao Jiang lost his mom early on. Once I have the baby, I’ll have to take care of it myself. Holding onto this position seems unfair...”

On one hand, Qiulan doesn’t want to stay cooped up at home, and on the other, she’s worked her way up to this position, but giving it up feels a bit unwilling.

Yet the reality is, she doesn’t have a mother-in-law. Once she has the baby, even if her family helps during the confinement period, after that she will definitely have to raise the child herself, sacrificing her career.

For women, balancing career and family is never easy, especially when she lacks a mother-in-law’s help.

Cheng Su understands this very well. Currently, her own mother-in-law has foot problems, so she relies on her own mother to help take care of the children.

Hearing what Qiulan said, she asked, ”So are you resigning?”

”I really have no choice; I can’t just occupy a position and do nothing, right?” Qiulan showed a bitter smile.

Starting from being a little girl to today, who would willing to give up? But inevitably, reality forces people to compromise!
