Quick Transmigration: The Cannon Fodder's Comeback in the Era Tales

Chapter 496: Chapter 496: Vicious Mother-in-Law 42

The sisters-in-law from the Ma family’s maternal home brought a whole lot of things to visit the daughter-in-law, and Mrs. Han warmly hosted them, even invited Qian Hongmei and Wang Cui to stay for lunch.

The dried chicken they brought was immediately cut into pieces and stewed with potatoes. However, there were too many Han family members, so Qian Hongmei and Wang Cui only got one piece of chicken each, which Mrs. Han personally picked for them for the sake of face, otherwise all the meat would have been snatched up by several children.

After the meal, Qian Hongmei and Wang Cui went to Ma Xiangling’s room to sit for a while.

Wang Cui pursed her lips and whispered in disdain, ”I say, little sister-in-law, didn’t they say your in-laws are all cultured people? How come when the children sat at the table, they didn’t have any restraint? There are guests at home, yet they snatch meat to eat. It’s really outrageous. They aren’t even as good as the kids in our village, who know that tasty food should be left for guests to eat first.”

Ma Xiangling smiled slightly and said, ”Just get used to it. Now I have become more open-minded. It’s best not to fuss over things, otherwise, you’ll only suffer yourself.”

Her first child was lost because she couldn’t see things clearly, quarreling over each and everything, ultimately causing the child to be gone.

Qian Hongmei said good-naturedly, ”Once a woman gets married, she has to bow and behave. Don’t quibble over everything. Parents don’t treat their children fairly, let alone daughters-in-law. Whatever happens, just turn a blind eye, get through it, and it’ll be fine. After all, you’re an outsider, how could you argue with a family?”

Ma Xiangling nodded with a smile, ”Elder sister-in-law sees things clearly and is broad-minded. Previously, I thought elder sister-in-law was an honest person, easy to bully. Back then, the immature me bullied elder sister-in-law quite a bit. Thankfully, elder sister-in-law was understanding and didn’t hold it against me. Actually, elder sister-in-law is the insightful one. No wonder you managed to warm mother’s hard heart.”

Wang Cui’s face turned ugly, ”Little sister-in-law, what do you mean by saying this? Are you insinuating that I’m narrow-minded and petty?”

”Second sister-in-law, look at you, you’ve twisted my words. I’m not implying anything about you, don’t overthink it.”

Ma Xiangling patted her belly and continued, ”Second sister-in-law, actually I know that since you married into the Ma family, you’ve never liked me because mother doted on me and gave me the best food, so you were discontent.”

”In the past, I was young and ignorant, thinking that the three sisters-in-law were outsiders in the Ma family, and I was the Ma family member. All the good things in the Ma family were mine, and these outsiders shouldn’t think about them. At that time, I did think that way. Now, I truly understand how childish my thoughts were.”

Now, I’ve become someone else’s daughter-in-law, and in their family, I’m an outsider, constantly guarded against and squeezed out by them. Only then did I realize how ridiculous my actions of squeezing out the three sisters-in-law were.”

”Elder sister-in-law, second sister-in-law, I apologize for the actions of my young and ignorant self. I’m sorry.”

Ma Xiangling stood up and bowed to the two sisters-in-law.

This time, even Wang Cui, who was usually talkative, couldn’t bring herself to say anything about the little sister-in-law. She hurriedly pulled Ma Xiangling, ”Oh dear, little sister-in-law, those were all things of the past. Didn’t you say those were the mistakes of your youth? We, being your sisters-in-law, how could we hold things against a child?”

”By the way, little sister-in-law, the older sister-in-law wrote a letter saying that Wang Jian Country will have family leave this year, and their family will come back for the New Year.”

”Really, my older sister will come back for the New Year?”

”Really, really, older sister-in-law will bring the children back together.”

”That’s great, Xiao Hui is one and a half years old now, we haven’t met yet.” Ma Xiangling was all smiles. She had a good relationship with her sister, but it was difficult for her sister to come back as she followed her husband’s military unit.
