Quick Transmigration: The Cannon Fodder's Comeback in the Era Tales

Chapter 491: Chapter 491: The Vicious Mother-in-Law 37

Qian Hongmei advised, ”Sister-in-law, it’s like this when you’re married. You can’t live like a girl at home anymore. Once you’re at your husband’s place, you have to live according to how your in-laws want. You should be open-minded. Isn’t it just doing more housework? Look at the girls who got married from our village—who among them doesn’t need to earn work points in the fields and still do housework at home, taking care of the whole family? Everyone lives like this. You’re just doing some housework without having to earn work points in the fields. You’re already luckier than many others, sister-in-law. You should be content.”

But Ma Xiangling was not content.

In the family, among the three sisters-in-law, the oldest and the third do no housework at all, even the clothes are washed by her. Why is that? They’re not paying her.

She’s not eating and drinking on their behalf.

Why should she be the maid for the whole family?

Ma Xiangling felt furious and deeply dissatisfied.

Although Qian Hongmei felt sorry for her sister-in-law, she knew that she couldn’t intervene in this matter.

Nor did she want to intervene.

She only felt that her sister-in-law was not recognizing her own blessings. She has a good life, yet she’s not satisfied and expects the Han family to support her.

For what reason?

Han Conghui has a good family background and job, apart from being divorced, he’s practically a golden bachelor. Why would he marry a village girl but to have an able woman to do housework and take care of the whole family?

If you can’t even do this bit of work, how could the Han elders support a worthless person like you?

Qian Hongmei felt that her sister-in-law’s grievances were unnecessary.

Qian Hongmei advised her a bit, but seeing her sister-in-law being stubborn, she awkwardly went back to work.

She was used to being diligent and hardworking, and suddenly not being allowed to do any work made her feel uncomfortable. So whenever she had the time, she would voluntarily help Wang Cui with housework.

When Yuan Chun saw this, she never said anything.

If one is restless, what can she say?

Yuan Chun assigned the task of entertaining the son-in-law to her eldest son, then went back to her room for a nap.

Last night, she went up the mountain and brought back a large deer, four wild chickens, and four wild rabbits. She distributed one chicken, one rabbit, and three pounds of deer meat to each of her daughters-in-law for them to take back to their mothers’ homes for New Year greetings early in the morning.

Since there was a new son-in-law visiting for the first time to celebrate the New Year, the Ma brothers didn’t stay long at their in-laws’ place. After delivering the New Year gifts and staying for a while, they hurried back to entertain the new brother-in-law.

With the three Ma brothers chatting with Han Conghui in the main room, the three sisters-in-law, along with Daya and Erya, were cooking in the kitchen. Ma Xiangling poured out her grievances to her eldest sister-in-law, but seeing no intention from her to back up Ma Xiangling at the Han family, she wiped her tears in disappointment and went to chat with her friends.

Yuan Chun woke up from her nap, and the daughters-in-law had already prepared the guest meal.

There was chicken stewed with mushrooms, spicy fried rabbit cubes, braised fish, braised pork, radish stewed with deer meat, fried peanuts, and a plate of spinach and scrambled eggs, alongside several vegetables—a whole tableful, half meat, half vegetables.

With dishes like these, even city folks might find it hard to prepare them. Seeing so much meat on the table, Han Conghui gained new respect for his mother-in-law’s family.

The ability to gather so much meat showed that they were not ordinary.

Especially the eldest brother-in-law, despite retiring from the military and losing a leg, he certainly maintained numerous connections over the years as a soldier.

So, when Han Conghui faced the three brothers-in-law, his previously condescending attitude diminished somewhat, and he spoke to Ma Xiangdong with more sincerity.

He also lost his scornful attitude toward Yuan Chun, his mother-in-law.
