Quick Transmigration: The Cannon Fodder's Comeback in the Era Tales

Chapter 457: Chapter 457: The Wicked Mother-in-law (Part 3)

She angrily cursed, ”You heartless dead girl, your education was a waste, your big brother lost a leg, you don’t feel for him, yet you’re still thinking about his allowance, do you even have a heart?”

After hitting Ma Xiangling, Yuan Chun ignored her indignant expression and hastily left the room.

Just as she reached the gate, she saw a wheelchair being pushed into the courtyard.

Yuan Chun glanced at the empty pant leg below Ma Xiangdong’s left knee, and tears started falling, ”Oh, my son, you’ve suffered so much.”

She rushed over, hugging Ma Xiangdong, crying her heart out.

Ma Xiangdong hesitated for a moment, and only after a while did he raise his hand to pat his mother’s back, ”Mom, I’m fine. It’s just a leg gone. Compared to those comrades who lost their lives, I’m lucky.”

”Yes, returning alive is better than anything,” choked Yuan Chun while wiping her tears. ”Don’t worry, son, you’ve lost a leg, but I’ll take care of you from now on.”

”Thank you, mom.”

”Silly child, what are you thanking me for? You’re my flesh and blood. Although I was tough on you before, you’re still my child. You’ve lost a leg, and it pains me... I’ll make sure to care for you from now on.”

Three of Ma Xiangdong’s comrades escorted him home.

Behind them were some village elders and children who hadn’t gone to work that day.

After crying, Yuan Chun invited several of Bin’s brothers inside and started preparing sweet egg soup for them.

One of Bin’s brothers, after placing Ma Xiangdong’s luggage inside, said, ”Madam, no need to trouble yourself. We need to report back our tasks after bringing Xiangdong home.”

”At least have some water before you leave. It’s hot, and you’ve been traveling for ages, you must be thirsty.” Seeing the young men’s chapped lips, Yuan Chun quickly poured large bowls of water for Bin’s brothers to drink.

In the past, after Bin’s brothers brought Ma Xiangdong home, the original owner didn’t even give them water before chasing them away, and then she humiliated Ma Xiangdong and called him useless and a cripple.

This time, with Yuan Chun there, Bin’s brothers not only had water but left with over ten fresh cucumbers, a packet of wild veggie cakes, and their water bottles filled to the brim.

Once the three young men left, several village elders gathered around Ma Xiangdong.

”Xiangdong, did you get discharged and sent home after losing a leg?”

”Xiangdong, now that you’re back in the village, will you be working in the fields? What can you do with a lost leg?”

”You’re already a cripple, what can you do? Maybe your younger brothers will have to support you.”

Upon hearing the news, Ma Laoer and his wife hurried back and entered the yard just in time to hear these words, their faces changing, and they retorted, ”When my big brother was well, he made so much money, yet I, as his brother, didn’t spend a cent. Why should I support him now that he’s a cripple?”

Ma Laoer glared resentfully at Yuan Chun, ”Mom, I’ll make it clear, our family won’t support useless people.”

”Now you expect me to support Xiangxi and Xiangling, and also a crippled big brother? Why just because I’m the second child, do I deserve to exhaust myself for this family?”

Second daughter-in-law Wang Cui sat on the ground and wailed, ”I can’t live like this, this family leaves no room for living. The money sent by eldest was never spent on us, but now that he’s crippled, we’re expected to support him. This is unfair and unreasonable...”
