Quick Transmigration: The Cannon Fodder's Comeback in the Era Tales

Chapter 472: Chapter 472: The Vicious Mother-in-Law 18

The Wang Family came in assertive, but left dejected.

Each person was filled with suppressed anger.

On the way back, the Wang Brothers all blamed Wang Yingying. Wang Yingying didn’t dare say anything because she would need her maternal family’s support in the future, and besides, this time it was her mistake that caused her brothers to be beaten by her mother-in-law.

Back in the county, the Wang Brothers were still fuming, so they went to the wool spinning factory and beat Ma Laosan.

Ma Laosan’s face was covered in scratches, caused by Wang Yingying over the past few days. Now, after being beaten by a group of brothers-in-law, Ma Laosan was filled with extreme sorrow and anger with nowhere to vent.

Qinghe Village.

Yuan Chun worked during the day, and in the evening went hunting in the mountains, bringing back either two wild chickens or two wild rabbits every day. Sometimes Yuan Chun would exchange money with the villagers for an old hen to stew for Ma Xiangdong.

The smell of meat wafted from their home every day, making the neighbors so envious that they lost their appetites.

Granny Shitou from next door came back carrying a basket of purslane. Seeing Yuan Chun standing at the courtyard gate, she called out, ”Mrs. Xiang Dong, did you kill another old hen? The scent traveled so far it made my mouth water.”

Before Yuan Chun could respond, Wang Cui came out and said sarcastically, ”Granny Shitou, if you’re craving it, why don’t you kill one and eat it yourself? It’s just an old hen, after all. Eat one and raise another. Look at you being so stingy. Or are you just reluctant to kill a chicken to eat?”

Granny Shitou pursed her lips, ”You think everyone’s like your family, having Xiang Dong’s subsidy to help with household expenses? Our old hens need to be kept for laying eggs to exchange for salt. But now that Xiang Dong’s back, there won’t be any more subsidies. Your family is really wasting money.”

Yuan Chun sighed and said worriedly, ”Granny Shitou, I really have no other choice. My Xiang Dong just returned from the hospital, and his broken leg hasn’t fully recovered. If he doesn’t eat more nutritious food, I’m concerned about his health. After all, my Xiang Dong is a great hero. We can’t let a great hero come home injured and have to eat pickled vegetables with us.”

”We only have three hens at home. After eating one, the remaining two are for laying eggs to nourish Xiang Dong. Yesterday, I traded with Third Aunt for an old hen. That hen is five or six years old, and Third Aunt said it doesn’t lay eggs anymore. Granny Shitou, do you have any hens to trade? Trade one for my Xiang Dong to eat. The doctor advised Xiang Dong to drink more chicken soup to heal faster. After all, he lost a leg, and the wound is bigger than a bowl. Just thinking about it breaks my heart.”

As Yuan Chun spoke, her eyes reddened.

Granny Shitou couldn’t say anything more. After all, no one wants to lose a leg.

For someone who’s lost a leg, having some chicken soup isn’t asking for too much.

He’s a great hero, after all.

He lost his leg for the country.

Granny Shitou softened and said, ”We have an old hen that’s seven or eight years old. I was planning to keep it until the New Year to serve to guests, but since you want to trade, have the second daughter-in-law catch it at my place.”

”Thank you.”

Yuan Chun promptly took out two yuan and handed it to Granny Shitou.

Granny Shitou accepted the money, ”There’s no need to thank me, we’re all neighbors. Xiang Dong lost a leg, and my heart aches too. I watched him grow up. Such a good kid he was. Ah, heaven really doesn’t favor good people.”

Wang Cui followed Granny Shitou to the house next door.

Soon, she came back carrying a scrawny chicken.

As soon as Wang Cui entered the door, she angrily said, ”Mom, that Shi Pozi is so cunning! Look at how scrawny this chicken is, yet she had the audacity to charge you two yuan.”
