...

”King Samudrasena,” Lord Vashistha began, his voice echoing in the grand hall, devoid of the usual flowery pleasantries. ”The actions of your armies over the past month are a catastrophic violation of the sacred, ancient borders of this land. You have swallowed five sovereign realms like a starving beast. You have disrupted the trade routes, displaced thousands, and threatened the stability of the entire eastern world.”

Admiral Tarun stepped forward, his eyes narrowing. ”Vanga will not allow a rabid dog to run unchecked on our borders. We demand, no, we REQUIRE that you immediately withdraw your forces from the Suhma valleys and the Harikela hills. You will release the conquered tribes, restore their rightful rulers, and pay heavy reparations to Vanga and Pundravardhana for the disruption of our regional peace. Do this, and we may forgive this sudden bout of madness.”

King Samudrasena sat in silence for a long moment. He looked at the two arrogant diplomats, men who just months ago he would have feared deeply. But then, he glanced up toward the shadowed alcove above the throne, where he knew Xun You was watching, listening, and evaluating.

A cold, mocking smile spread across the King’s face.

”You demand?” the King echoed, his voice dripping with absolute contempt. He slowly stood up from his throne, the heavy gold jewelry clinking against his chest.

”You walk into my capital, surrounded by an army that has just shattered five kingdoms and tribes in a fortnight, and you make DEMANDS?” The King let out a booming laugh that caused the diplomats to stiffen in outrage.

”What Samatata does within its sphere of influence is absolutely none of your business,” Samudrasena declared, his voice rising to a fierce, aggressive roar that shook the incense smoke in the air. ”The Tripura, the Harikela, the Suhma, they were weak. The weak are meant to be ruled by the strong. That is the only law the earth truly respects.”

Lord Vashistha’s face turned a deep, furious shade of red. ”You speak of the law of beasts! This unprovoked aggression will not stand! If you do not release these lands, Pundravardhana and Vanga will unite. We will bring the full, combined might of our chariots and our fleets against you. We will burn Karmanta to the ground and scatter your ashes in the delta!”

The King did not flinch at the threat of total war. He had the Black Dragon standing in his shadow.

”If you truly wish to go to war,” King Samudrasena sneered, descending the first two steps of the dais, his hand resting on his Hengyuan forged sword, ”then we will respond in kind. Send your fleets, Admiral. Send your chariots, Lord Vashistha. They will sink in our mud, and they will break against our shields. We have forged a new reality in the east, and you are welcome to test it.”

The King waved his hand dismissively toward the heavy wooden doors. ”You have your answer. Leave my city before I decide to add your heads to the tribute wagons of my newly conquered vassals.”

The diplomats were absolutely livid, their pride stung and their threats utterly dismissed. But looking at the cold, unyielding faces of the heavily armored native guards flanking the throne, they knew they could do nothing but swallow their indignation. Without bowing, they turned on their heels and stormed out of the throne room, chased out by the mocking laughter of the Samatata court.

However, as the heavy doors slammed shut, the King’s laughter faded. He looked up at the alcove. Xun You stepped out from the shadows, slowly descending the hidden stone staircase, followed closely by the towering figure of Huang Zhong.

”You played your part well, King,” Xun You noted, his voice clinical and calm, a stark contrast to the fiery exchange that had just occurred.

”They will ally against us,” the King said, a hint of nervous reality creeping back into his voice. ”Vanga and Pundravardhana... together, they field over ninety thousand men. They have hundreds of war elephants. They will try to crush us to restore the balance.”

”Let them try,” Huang Zhong grunted, a fierce, hungry smile on his scarred face. ”The more they gather, the more we kill in a single stroke. An army of ninety thousand undisciplined men is just a larger field of wheat waiting for the scythe.”

Xun You walked to the center of the room, looking at the massive map carved into the marble floor.

”They will not just try to restore the balance,” Xun You analyzed perfectly. ”Vanga and Pundravardhana are rivals themselves. They are attempting to apply diplomatic pressure now, but their true goal is far more cynical. Seeing that you hold double the territory, they realize that Samatata’s administrative lines are stretched thin. They do not want to liberate those five kingdoms, they want to fracture them and split the new territory between the two of them. They see us as an overextended feast.”

Xun You turned his piercing, intelligent gaze to the King.

”We must not give them the moral or historical high ground to launch a ’liberation’ war,” the brilliant strategist commanded. ”We must change the narrative of the entire region. We are not foreign conquerors. We are ancient unifiers.”

Xun You stepped closer to the throne, dictating the next monumental phase of the geopolitical theater.

”Tomorrow at dawn, you will issue a grand, region wide proclamation, carried by our fastest riders to every corner of the subcontinent,” Xun You instructed, his voice ringing with absolute, manufactured authority. ”You will announce to the world that Samatata is the true, ancestral ruler of this entire delta region since the ancient, mythical times. You will claim that the lands of Tripura, Harikela, and beyond were merely wayward provinces that had forgotten their true masters.”

The King’s eyes widened at the sheer audacity of the historical lie. ”They will know it is a fabrication.”

”It does not matter what the scholars know, it matters what the peasants believe and what the minor kings fear,” Xun You countered ruthlessly. ”You will state that Samatata is simply reclaiming what is rightfully, historically ours by divine mandate. You will rebrand this bloody expansion as a sacred reunification.”

Xun You tapped his crane feather fan against his palm. ”Furthermore, you will issue a direct ultimatum to the remaining smaller kingdoms, the independent city states, and the neutral tribes that border Vanga and Pundravardhana. You will demand that they immediately send envoys to Karmanta to officially pledge their allegiance to your crown.”

”And if they refuse?” the King asked, though he already knew the brutal logic of his masters.

”Tell them,” Huang Zhong interrupted, his voice a low, terrifying rumble of impending violence, ”that those who pledge their allegiance will survive and prosper under the new empire of the east. Tell them that those who refuse, or those who side with the false promises of Vanga and Pundravardhana, will be viewed as traitors to the ancient crown. And they will be utterly, mercilessly eradicated.”

The geopolitical trap was set. Samatata was no longer just defending its sudden expansion, it was aggressively claiming the mantle of a supreme, historical empire. By demanding fealty from the minor states, they were forcing the entire region to choose a side before Vanga and Pundravardhana could fully mobilize a unified coalition.

The proxy war had escalated from border skirmishes to a total, ideological conflict for the fate of the eastern subcontinent. And deep in the shadows, holding the strings of the puppet king, the Hengyuan Dynasty prepared to unleash the full, horrifying weight of its modernized, industrialized military doctrines upon an unsuspecting ancient world.

The very next morning, as the humid, tropical sun began to burn away the thick mists that clung to the delta, the heralds of Karmanta rode out into the bustling streets. Accompanied by the rhythmic, deafening beating of heavy war drums, they announced a royal decree that immediately brought the sprawling capital to a standstill, King Samudrasena would issue a grand proclamation at exactly high noon.

By the command of the crown, attendance was not merely requested, it was absolutely mandatory for anyone of consequence. The commoners were invited to fill the massive central plaza, but specific, heavily armed escorts were dispatched to ”invite” the local nobles, the wealthy merchant guilds, the scholars, and, most importantly, the captured royal families and tribal elders of the five newly conquered territories.

As the sun climbed to its zenith, beating down with a fierce, suffocating heat, the grand avenue leading up to the royal palace was a sea of humanity. Tens of thousands of commoners pressed against the cordons of native spearmen, the air thick with the smell of sweat, crushed lotus flowers, and nervous anticipation.

Above the sweltering masses, the architecture of the palace provided a stark display of the new, ruthless hierarchy. The local Samatata nobles and the wealthy merchants were positioned on the shaded, lower stone balconies, fanning themselves rapidly while trying to project an air of confident superiority.

However, on the higher, heavily guarded terraces, a much darker scene played out. The captured royal family of the Suhma river barons, the surviving tribal chiefs of the Harikela, and the subjugated elders of Tripura stood in tightly packed groups.

They were dressed in fine silks, intentionally unchained to maintain the illusion of a civilized court, but the rings of heavily armored Samatata guards standing directly behind them, hands resting on Hengyuan forged pommels, told the true story. They were trophies, forced to bear witness to the erasure of their own histories.

Exactly at noon, a massive gong echoed through the plaza. The heavy, gilded doors of the highest palace balcony swung open.

King Samudrasena stepped out into the blinding sunlight, flanked by his newly appointed, merit based military council. He was a vision of manufactured majesty. He wore traditional delta silks, but draped over his shoulders was a magnificent, heavily embroidered cape of crimson and gold, a subtle, psychological nod to the Hengyuan aesthetic, and at his hip rested a masterfully crafted, straight edged mainland dao sword.

The King stepped to the edge of the balcony, looking down at the ocean of faces. He could feel the terrifying, invisible gaze of Xun You and Huang Zhong piercing his back from the shadowed chambers behind him. He took a deep breath, drawing on every ounce of theatrical arrogance he possessed.

”People of Karmanta! Citizens of the true delta!” the King’s voice boomed across the plaza, amplified by the sheer acoustics of the palace walls. ”For centuries, our history has been written by the timid! We have allowed ourselves to be divided by arbitrary lines drawn in the mud, squabbling over rivers and forests while the true, ancient glory of our ancestors was buried beneath the dust!”

The King swept his hand dramatically toward the west, pointing toward the newly conquered lands.

”Look to the setting sun!” he roared, his voice laced with a fervor that was entirely manufactured but terrifyingly convincing. ”The Tripura, the Harikela, the Suhma, these were never independent realms! The scholars of Vanga and Pundravardhana have lied to you for generations to keep us weak! They are, and have always been, the wayward, rebellious provinces of the ancient Samatata Empire! We are the true, singular inheritors of the delta!”

A ripple of sheer shock went through the captured royals on the terraces. The Suhma barons clenched their jaws in absolute, silent fury. The elders of Tripura looked at the ground, their hearts burning with humiliation. They knew, as did every educated scholar in the capital, that the King’s words were utter historical bullshit. There had never been an ancient, unified Samatata Empire that stretched that far. It was a blatant, fabricated justification for naked imperialism.

But it did not matter what the scholars knew.

Down in the plaza, the commoners, the laborers, and the newly enriched middle class erupted. Nationalism, fueled by sudden, staggering military victory, was an intoxicating drug. The masses had gone from being citizens of a modest trading kingdom to the heart of an ancient, reborn empire overnight. They threw their hands in the air, screaming the King’s name in a deafening, fanatical cheer that shook the very foundations of the city.

Seeing the violent success of the propaganda, King Samudrasena raised his hands, demanding silence. The roar subsided into a tense, vibrating hum.

It was time for the blade to fall.

”We have taken back what is rightfully ours,” the King declared, his eyes hardening as he delivered the ultimatum scripted by Xun You. ”But our sacred reunification is not yet complete. To the minor kings, the city states, and the neutral tribes that still linger on our borders, hear my words!”

He drew his Hengyuan forged sword, the sunlight glinting off the flawless steel, creating a blinding arc of light.

”You have one month! One month to send your envoys to Karmanta and officially pledge your absolute allegiance to the ancestral crown! Return to the fold, and you shall share in the boundless wealth and protection of our new empire!” The King’s voice dropped into a lethal, guttural snarl. ”But if you refuse... if you cling to your false independence, or if you seek the cowardly embrace of Vanga and Pundravardhana... you will not be viewed as honorable enemies. You will be viewed as traitors to your own history. And you will be eradicated without mercy!”

The cheers that followed were not just joyous, they were bloodthirsty. The captured royals on the balconies finally understood the terrifying, inescapable trap they were in. Samatata was not just conquering them, it was rewriting reality.

Within hours, the grand proclamation and the brutal edict of ultimatum escaped the confines of Karmanta. Carried by the fastest couriers, river skiffs, and merchant caravans, the shocking news spread like a monsoon flood across the entire Indian subcontinent.

When the exact wording of the proclamation reached the opulent, heavily militarized courts of Vanga and Pundravardhana, the initial shock instantly violently boiled over into absolute, incandescent rage.

In the coastal capital of Vanga, Admiral Tarun stood before his King, slamming a fist onto the heavy teak war table.

”It is madness, Your Majesty! Complete, arrogant madness!” the Admiral shouted, his face purple with fury. ”Samudrasena is not just securing his borders. He is fabricating a historical fact to swallow the entire delta! If he successfully forces the remaining minor kingdoms into his fold, Samatata will not just be a rival. They will become a a superpower! They will possess the manpower and the resources to actually contend with the Kushan Empire to the north! We cannot allow this beast to grow another inch!”

The sentiment was perfectly mirrored hundreds of miles to the west, in the grand, stone pillared halls of Pundravardhana.

Lord Vashistha, having barely recovered from the humiliation of being chased out of Karmanta, stood before his own chariot riding monarch.

”They are forcing the entire region to choose a side,” Vashistha hissed, his mind racing with the geopolitical implications. ”By declaring this a ’reunification,’ Samudrasena has drawn a line in the sand. If we do not act immediately, the minor states will flock to his banner out of sheer terror. We must form the coalition now.”

The major powers did not hesitate. The bitter, centuries old rivalry between Vanga and Pundravardhana was temporarily suspended in the face of this sudden, existential threat. Joint ultimatums were drafted and sent back to Samatata, demanding an immediate cessation of hostilities and the retraction of the proclamation.

Simultaneously, the two military titans began frantically rallying the minor kingdoms and tribes around them, promising protection and gold in exchange for joining their newly formed coalition against the ”Delta Tyrant.”

Meanwhile, the minor kingdoms and independent tribes that directly bordered the rapidly expanding Samatata were thrown into a state of absolute, agonizing panic.

They were caught between the crushing anvil of the new Samatata Empire and the heavy hammer of the Vanga Pundravardhana coalition. Their courts were torn apart by desperate debates.

Some of the smaller, pragmatic city states, having heard the terrifying, whispered rumors of the unbreakable iron shield walls and the mechanical crossbows that shredded the Tripura, chose survival over pride. They swallowed their dignity, packed their tribute wagons with gold, spices, and slaves, and marched to Karmanta to bend the knee and pledge their allegiance to Samudrasena.

However, many others, particularly the proud, martial tribes of the northern hills and the fierce independent river kingdoms of the deep delta, absolutely refused. They sent back the severed heads of Samatata’s heralds. They stood on their battlements, publicly shaming King Samudrasena for using such profoundly unfounded, cowardly historical claims to justify his butchery. They began frantically sharpening their spears, hoarding grain, and preparing to fight to the absolute bitter end, heavily banking on the coalition’s armies arriving in time to save them.

The entire delta region had instantly transformed into a massive, highly volatile powder keg, ready to explode at the slightest spark.

And standing in the absolute center of this geopolitical maelstrom, deep within the cellars of Karmanta, Xun You and Huang Zhong were smiling.

”The board is set,” Xun You murmured, moving several wooden markers across his massive tactical map. ”The chaos is absolute. Everyone is looking at their neighbors, drawing swords, and pointing fingers.”

Huang Zhong chuckled, running a whetstone down the edge of his massive blade. ”A chaotic enemy is a blind enemy. While they are busy shouting at each other, we can maneuver in the dark.”

The Hengyuan strategists had deliberately engineered this massive regional panic. In the sheer, deafening noise of the coalition forming and the minor states panicking, the intricate, highly advanced logistical movements of the hidden Hengyuan forces could proceed entirely unnoticed. The powder keg was exactly what they wanted.

As the armies of Vanga and Pundravardhana desperately tried to coordinate their massive, unwieldy forces to form a unified front, they found themselves fighting an enemy they could not even see.

The Oriole Agents, unleashed by Xun You, began to swim through the delta region like invisible, venomous serpents. They were not fighting battles; they were paralyzing the coalition’s ability to wage war before a single sword was crossed on the battlefield.

Operating at a level of tradecraft that was centuries ahead of the native intelligence networks, the Orioles utilized their recruited untouchables and street orphans to execute a masterclass in asymmetrical sabotage.

In the naval shipyards of Vanga, a seemingly accidental, catastrophic fire broke out in the primary drydocks in the dead of night. Three massive, newly built war galleys were burned to the waterline, and the primary store of pitch and sailcloth was entirely consumed. The Vanga admirals blamed disgruntled dockworkers, completely unaware that a Hengyuan spy had bypassed their guards using the city’s sewer system.

In the staging grounds of Pundravardhana, the elite chariot corps found themselves grounded. During a massive troop muster, hundreds of the heavy wooden axles on their war chariots inexplicably cracked and splintered under the weight of the armor. The Oriole Agents had systematically infiltrated the lumber yards weeks prior, subtly painting the axles with a highly corrosive, deeply penetrating acid developed in the Imperial Workshop by Himiko and Yue Ying.
