Medical Sage

As Lin Ling mentioned this, without realizing it, tears began streaming down her cheeks. Yet, she seemed unaware and continued, ”Initially, she thought her life would just be like that, with no further connection to him. But fate always has its ironies. When her child was a little over a year old, she was cleaning tables at the restaurant where she worked when she unexpectedly met him... This was their first meeting after three years apart. Perhaps it was something neither of them had envisioned.”

”At that time, she didn’t say a word, but he saw a lovely child being held by the restaurant’s owner and calling her ’Mom.’ He seemed to go mad at the sight. He knelt and apologized, repeating ’I’m sorry’ over and over, because he truly believed that when they had parted three years ago, she would have chosen to have an abortion... But in this world, there are no ’what ifs’.”

”What followed was somewhat melodramatic, even self-inflicted. When he found out he had a child—perhaps because of that sliver of conscience nagging at him—he begged her nonstop for a month, wanting to reconcile. Originally, she was unwilling to agree. But later, for her child, who was a little over a year old—and perhaps because of a soft heart or foolishness—she finally consented. Thus, after three years, they were back together again.”

At this point, Lin Ling suddenly chuckled at herself in a self-deprecating manner and said softly, ”According to the plot of novels, they should have lived happily ever after by now, right? She had hoped for the same. But reality is, after all, reality. And it’s too cruel.”

”Alas!” She shook her head as if with a sigh, the memories and emotions in her eyes suddenly intensifying. ”She returned to his family home with their child, only to be driven out on the very same day.”

”Why? Because she was just a woman from the countryside, and his family was the top-tier Red Nobility in the Capital City at that time! Thus, they believed she had no right to step through their doors. They thought she wasn’t worthy and even felt that he and their child had tainted their family’s noble lineage. They also assumed she wanted to use the child to tie him down, seeking to force her way into high society and marry into a prestigious family to change her life forever.”

SNAP!

Chen Fei was clutching the bedpost, but in that moment, it crumbled into a cloud of powder in his grip.

The atmosphere in the room turned instantly quiet. Lin Ling’s cold eyes swept over her son, and then, for some reason, she laughed again and went on, ”For the next few months, it was a cycle of making up and breaking up, until it seemed the most respected old master of their family took notice. He, too, seemed to think she was only after the family’s wealth and status and had the child to use as leverage. Hence, the old master gave him two choices.”

”One was to cut all ties with her and never have any dealings with her again; the other was to be with her and be disowned from the family’s Direct Lineage.”

At this, Lin Ling shook her head slightly and, with a final sigh, revealed the end of the story. ”One day later, she was driven out of the Capital City by his family, told she would be killed if she didn’t leave. As for him, he chose the first path offered by the respected old master.”

”To hell with his respectability!” At this moment, Chen Fei couldn’t contain his outburst. His face contorted with rage as he roared, and then with a hoarse voice, he demanded, ”Mom, who are they? The Chen Family?”

”Didn’t I say it was all just a story?” responded Lin Ling, her gaze evasive.

”Mom!” Chen Fei’s eyelids trembled violently. His black eyes, clear as glass, fixed squarely on Lin Ling’s flickering gaze. His voice turned hoarse as he said, ”I know it’s just a story, but I want to know who they are. And that man, that coward—who is he?”

Her body trembling slightly, a complex look flashed through Lin Ling’s eyes. She sighed and slowly said, ”The man in the story’s surname is Chen. He comes from the Chen Family of the Capital City. His name... is Chen Zhenguo.”

”His surname is Chen? So it really is them... Chen Zhenguo... Good, very good! Mom, right now... I really want to slaughter him!” Clenching his teeth, words laced with stark murderous intent spilled out as Chen Fei’s fists tightened, his pitch-black, glass-clear eyes glowing with furious flames.

SMACK!

Lin Ling suddenly slapped him hard across the face, her tone ice-cold as she said, ”You little brat, do you even realize what you’re saying!?”

”Mom, I...” Chen Fei clutched his face, his expression still twisted with anger.

Yet Lin Ling cut him off again, her tone firm. ”He is a Beast, a scumbag, but are you? Do you understand what it would mean if you killed him yourself? Let me tell you—if you want me to disown you from this day forward, then go ahead and do it! I, Lin Ling, don’t need a Beast for a son!”

At her words, Chen Fei’s clenched fists creaked and his eyelids quivered madly. But after a moment, he slowly relaxed them. He lifted his head, and his deep black eyes, looking at his mother, calmed slightly, the contorted grimness buried deep within.

Over twenty years ago... he couldn’t imagine what his mother had gone through. The endless discrimination and mockery, the oppressive weight from the top-tier Red Nobility of the Capital City, and even... despair! At this moment, he truly couldn’t fathom the kind of pressure his mother had been under, taking each step to reach today. She had walked through such pain and despair for more than twenty years... How did she possibly manage to get through it all? Chen Fei suddenly hated himself, a real, deep-seated hatred. Why hadn’t he asked sooner? If he had asked earlier, he could have helped share her burden, but he...

”Mom, I’m sorry, I...” Chen Fei said, his head lowered, his voice tinged with heartache.

”Sorry for what?” Lin Ling felt her heart deeply touched. She stepped forward and embraced Chen Fei, whose eyes were slightly moist and whose body was trembling. She smiled gently. ”If it weren’t for you, how could I have possibly held on until now? Besides, that all happened over twenty years ago. I got over it long ago... Having you as my son is enough for me now.”

”Mom, don’t worry. I swear, I will make them pay for everything they did to you back then,” Chen Fei said firmly, holding his mother tight.

”You...” Upon hearing this, Lin Ling’s expression changed slightly.

But this time, Chen Fei interrupted her directly. ”Mom, I know what you’re going to say. Don’t worry, I won’t go looking for him, nor will I kill him. From now on, I’ll just treat him as a stranger. However, I absolutely cannot let the Chen Family get away with it. No matter how much you try to stop me, I am going to do this.”

”After all, I am your son! How could I possibly remain indifferent?” Chen Fei declared loudly.

Her body trembled, and her eyes filled with emotion, but she then shook her head. ”But do you know how powerful the Chen Family of Capital City is? When I was in the Capital City, they, along with two other major families, were known as one of the three great Red Nobilities of Forty-Nine City! Even an expert like your master, Uncle Ming, who is an Ancient Martial Artist, wouldn’t dare speak of revenge against them. What can a kid like you do? What if something happens to you?”

”Mom, don’t worry. I’m not foolish; I know what to do,” Chen Fei smiled, brushing the topic aside. ”But who was the person from the Chen Family who came to find you today? What did they want?”

”I think I heard him say his name was Chen Weishan. His father, Chen Huaqin, is one of the elders in the current generation of the Chen Family of Capital City. As for why they came looking for me... Apparently, the old master of the Chen Family passed away some time ago, leaving behind a mess and putting the family in a tough spot. And since you saved Old Master Xuu and became his benefactor, the Chen Family came to me. They want you to ask Old Master Xuu to intervene and help the Chen Family get through this difficulty,” Lin Ling explained slowly.

”They want me to ask Old Master Xuu to help them through this crisis? They really have the nerve to say that. Utterly shameless,” Chen Fei said with a sarcastic sneer.

”Pah! Stop spouting such disgusting nonsense. Alright, I’m going to go cook. Do you want to take a shower first?” Lin Ling pinched her nose with a disgusted gesture, then asked as she walked out of the room.

”Yeah, I’ll go in a bit,” Chen Fei immediately nodded, responding loudly.

Only after Lin Ling had left his room did his expression turn incredibly cold and sullen. His pupils flickered with murderous intent, and the aura he emitted was like ice shards, chilling to the bone. Then, expressionless, he took out his phone and dialed a special internal number.

”Hello, Chief Instructor Chen? This is Wang Dashan. What are your orders?” As soon as the call connected, the respectful voice of Wang Dashan came from the earpiece.

Even though Chen Fei was usually good-natured, today was different. After such a significant event, even someone like Wang Dashan didn’t dare to be careless. He kept himself on edge, afraid that if he misspoke or did the wrong thing, he would be in deep trouble. After all, if Chen Fei really got angry, even he, Wang Dashan, would be less than nothing! He didn’t have enough heads to roll!

”There’s a man named Wang Dazhi at the West City Police Station in Chengyang County. Go there now with your men. Detain him and everyone else who was involved in today’s incident,” Chen Fei ordered coldly.

”Understood... Rest assured, Chief Instructor Chen, I know how to handle this,” Wang Dashan shivered on the other end of the line, his breathing growing heavier as he sensed the obvious chill in Chen Fei’s words.

”Also, there’s someone named Chen Weishan, from the Chen Family of Capital City,” Chen Fei spoke again, his voice slow and deliberate. ”I don’t care what methods you use, but within three hours, I want him brought before me! If you can’t handle it, go find Chief Luo and ask for his assistance! I don’t want any slip-ups. Otherwise, you’ll face the consequences.”

”Yes! Chief Instructor Chen, I will complete the mission,” Wang Dashan replied, his body trembling as sweat beaded on his forehead. This was the first time he had ever heard Chen Fei speak like this.

How terrifying.
