”Instructions? Instructions, my ass!” Apparently, the moment the lanky policeman Wang Dazhi spoke, Zhu Qianye, on the other end of the phone, couldn’t contain his fury, his face flushing with anger.

Who was Mr. Chen Fei, and what was he capable of? Zhu Qianye might not have been clear on that before, but now… he was painfully aware. This was a major figure with connections even to the Flying Leopard, a special unit that operated across the Three Provinces of Lingnan. In his presence, people like them were no different from ants. And now, this damn deputy director of a county police station actually dared to lay a hand on Mr. Chen’s mother and try to arrest her. Wasn’t that just courting death?

”Wang Dazhi, are you out of your fucking mind? Even if you want to die, don’t drag us down with you! Do you believe me… I’m asking you, are you preparing to arrest a woman in her forties right now?” As this thought crossed his mind, Zhu Qianye’s voice on the phone became exceptionally furious and agitated.

The moment Deputy Director Wang Dazhi heard this, he was utterly dumbstruck. Cold sweat poured from his forehead like rain. He had never dreamed that this seemingly ordinary woman could be so formidable. A single, casual phone call had summoned their superior, and not just any superior, but the top boss of the entire city’s public security system, Director Zhu Qianye himself.

More importantly, that wasn’t even the most terrifying part. What was truly horrifying were Director Zhu’s words. *If you want to die, don’t drag us down with you?*

It was inconceivable that Director Zhu was just a minor figure with no standing in front of that woman. That would be the only reason he would lose his composure and lash out with such ’astonishing’ words.

After all, for those in their line of work, words were usually chosen with great care. This was especially true in a clear subordinate-superior relationship like the one between him and Director Zhu. It was almost unthinkable for a superior to speak that way.

Unless… he was scared. Unless the mighty head of Northern Mountain City’s Public Security Bureau, Director Zhu Qianye himself, was afraid. That was the only possible explanation. At this thought, Wang Dazhi felt his legs go weak. The dominance and authority in his eyes were completely replaced by fear and trembling. My god, what the hell have I done?

”No, Director Zhu, I, you…” Deputy Director Wang Dazhi began to stammer, his face ashen.

”You? Me? Cut the crap! I’m telling you, Wang Dazhi, if you don’t want someone from the organization putting a bullet in your brain in the next hour or two and riddling your idiot self into a sieve, you’d better get your ass over there and apologize to that lady right now!”

Evidently, Zhu Qianye was extremely agitated, almost irrational, as he cursed into the phone. ”Also, Mayor Huang and I are heading to Chengyang County right now. If you can’t get that lady’s forgiveness before we arrive, you can spend the rest of your damn life wearing out the prison floor! I am being completely serious. This is no joke. That’s all.”

BEEP...

The line went dead.

However, the fear in Wang Dazhi’s eyes only swelled to its absolute peak.

Someone from the organization would blow his brains out? Riddle him, the idiot, into a sieve? The mere thought sent an uncontrollable wave of fear and trembling through his heart, threatening to swallow him whole. His face turned deathly pale, his limbs ice-cold.

He never could have imagined that such a minor case, a simple public order dispute involving a seemingly insignificant woman, would actually alarm the city’s Public Security Bureau Chief, Zhu Qianye, and even prompt Mayor Huang Tao to personally intervene and rush over. But even that wasn’t the most terrifying part; the most terrifying part was what he had just heard from Director Zhu.

For someone in the official hierarchy, what was the most frightening thing? Without a doubt, it was the ”organization.” Yet now, for merely trying to arrest a woman in her forties, the situation had escalated to such a grave extent. If he couldn’t obtain her forgiveness, he would have his head blown off by the organization, be turned into a sieve, or rot in prison for the rest of his life. This was simply…

Just how big of a deal was this? Or rather, who exactly was this woman? How could she be so terrifying that even the top leadership was taking it this seriously, to the point of involving the organization’s internal affairs? No wonder she wasn’t even afraid of someone like Chen Weishan from the Public Security Bureau of Capital City. She even dared to hit him. She wasn’t afraid at all.

Thinking this, Wang Dazhi subconsciously wiped the cold sweat from his forehead and looked up.

That one glance nearly gave him a heart attack. He saw his subordinates surrounding the two women, Lin Ling and Aunt Deng, ready to cuff them with expressions of malice.

”What are you doing? What are you doing? Did I tell you to do that? Put those handcuffs away right now and get the hell out of the way! Get out of the way!” Scared shitless, he rushed over, his face pale and trembling, pointing at the police officers he’d brought and scolding them one by one.

”No, it’s just… Director Wang, you were the one who told us…” Baffled by the sudden tirade, the officers exchanged confused glances, wondering what had gotten into their director.

Didn’t he just tell them to arrest these two? Didn’t he just tell them to handcuff them? How had it come to him chewing them out so mercilessly in the blink of an eye?

”Are you all deaf? Didn’t you hear me? Put those handcuffs away!” Seeing his men just staring at each other instead of immediately putting the handcuffs away, Wang Dazhi broke out in a panicked sweat.

This was no joke! This was a woman who could summon the Chief of the Public Security Bureau, and even the Mayor, with a single phone call. Not to mention Director Zhu’s earlier words were like landmines planted all over his heart! After hearing all that, it was obvious just how terrifying this woman’s background was—even a municipal Public Security Bureau Chief and a Mayor weren’t high-ranking enough in her presence.

And now his men were trying to arrest her? Handcuff her? Wasn’t that just courting death? He, Wang Dazhi, wasn’t ready to die yet! He really didn’t want the organization to blow his brains out or turn him into a sieve.

Poor Deputy Director Wang Dazhi still didn’t know that while he seemed to have realized his mistake, he had already committed a fatal, irreversible error. To this day, his mother was Chen Fei’s one sacred ground—the one person he protected above all else. Even Elder Ming Daocuan’s position in his heart wasn’t as important. And yet, this man had dared to arrest Lin Ling?

”Uh, yes, yes… put them away, put the handcuffs away.”

After another thunderous roar from Wang Dazhi, his subordinates finally understood that their boss was serious about putting the handcuffs away.

With strange looks on their faces, they awkwardly holstered their handcuffs and waited for Wang Dazhi’s next instruction. His next move, however, left them utterly dumbfounded.

Trembling, Deputy Director Wang Dazhi pushed aside an officer blocking the path and walked up to Lin Ling. With a face full of panic and a voice brimming with emotion, he said, ”Ladies, I am so sorry for the trouble and grievance we’ve caused you. Please forgive us. We were wrong earlier; we didn’t understand the situation… It was my failure as the deputy director of this station. I’ve made a fool of myself and let you down.”

”This…”

Aunt Deng had known Lin Ling’s phone call would work. After all, her son, Chen Fei, was a very capable man who even knew the mayor. But seeing Deputy Director Wang Dazhi do such a sudden 180-degree turn still left her somewhat stunned. It wasn’t that she was scared; she just thought this man’s skin was incredibly thick, like a fortress wall. She knew officials were thick-skinned and could change their expressions as if playing a game, but she had never seen someone who could be so brazenly shameless, changing his tune so quickly.

Lin Ling’s expression was clearly much calmer. She had seen the world and had dealt with people far more shameless and brazen than this. In her eyes, Wang Dazhi’s antics were child’s play.

Even so, the ugly sight of his initial arrogance followed by his current groveling still disgusted her. She simply turned her head away, unwilling to deal with such a person any longer. Her gaze then fell upon Chen Weishan, who was still lying on the grass nearby. ”Mr. Chen,” she said indifferently, ”I made the call. Are you satisfied with the result?”

”Lin Ling, I advise you not to go too far.”

Chen Weishan felt as if his body was falling apart, aching all over, but his expression remained just as dark and furious. He glared at Lin Ling and snarled, ”I’ll have you know, I came here on behalf of the Old Chen Family. Are you sure you and your son really want to make an enemy of us? Can you, a widow and an orphan, bear those consequences?” He was bluffing again, using the family name as a shield, hoping to scare her.

”You’re representing the Chen Family? Perfect. My son, Chen Fei, is on his way back to Chengyang right now. If the Chen Family has anything to say, or any moves to make, feel free to tell him. Feel free to use them on him.” At his words, Lin Ling’s face hardened, and her tone became exceedingly cold and hostile.

The Old Chen Family? What a bunch of shameless, disgusting, and annoyingly persistent people! But since you’re so eager for Xiaofei to return and acknowledge his ancestors… fine. Let’s just see what he has to say about it himself. I’ve hidden it from him for so many years; it’s about time he knew. He has a right to know about this, after all… Lin Ling sighed internally.

”That boy is on his way back?” Hearing this, Chen Weishan’s expression changed drastically. Panic and fear flickered in his eyes. He knew his own business best. He was acting on his own this time; the Old Chen Family knew nothing about it. Furthermore, his own investigation indicated that Chen Fei was not an easy person to deal with, yet here he was, harassing Lin Ling…

If that boy actually confronted him, how could he possibly be let off easy?

Damn it! That rotten bitch… so cheap… Chen Weishan cursed inwardly, the panic in his eyes growing more intense.
