Upon learning of Chen Fei’s arrest, Dong Wencheng naturally couldn’t sit still.

Not long after, Xiao Beiye was preparing to escort Chen Fei back to the Jiangnan Province Military Region’s Special Security Bureau when he received a phone call from Secretary Dong Wencheng of Tongzhou City, the provincial capital. His eyes flashed with a trace of gravity and surprise.

Why would he call me personally? Could it be because of... A complex expression appeared in Xiao Beiye’s eyes, and he couldn’t help but glance at the figure in the back of the military vehicle.

He had considered that someone might call him through certain channels. However, he truly hadn’t expected the first caller to be a heavyweight like Secretary Dong Wencheng. Who was this man? He was one of the top four or five leaders in their province, yet now, he was personally making this call.

An ominous premonition bloomed in Xiao Beiye’s heart. He answered the phone and spoke in a low voice.

”May I ask if this is Xiao Beiye? I am Dong Wencheng.” Dong Wencheng’s authoritative voice came through the phone, carrying a powerful presence.

”Hello, Secretary Dong. This is Xiao Beiye from the Jiangnan Province Military Region’s Special Security Bureau. May I ask for your instructions?” Xiao Beiye asked, forcing himself to remain calm.

”I wouldn’t dare give instructions, but...” Dong Wencheng’s authoritative voice continued from the other end of the line, his tone turning cold. ”I heard you took away a young man named Chen Fei today. Tell me, Xiao Beiye, were your reasons for arresting him justified?”

Just as expected...

Upon hearing Dong Wencheng’s words, Xiao Beiye’s face turned solemn. ”Secretary Dong, this matter was a direct order from the Bureau,” he said slowly. ”We are merely following orders.”

”A direct order from the Bureau? May I ask which Director issued it?” Dong Wencheng asked slowly.

”It was... Xiao Nanshan. Director Xiao,” Xiao Beiye hesitated before finally answering in a low voice. Normally, he shouldn’t disclose such information. However, this was not something that could be hidden, and Secretary Dong Wencheng was far too influential. He simply couldn’t afford to offend him.

”Xiao Nanshan... Elder Xiao. It’s really him?” Dong Wencheng fell silent for a moment. That name, Elder Xiao, belonged to that specific Elder Xiao of the Xiao Family.

”Secretary Dong, we’re just following orders here. We have no choice,” Xiao Beiye suddenly spoke up. ”If you want us to release him, please call Director Xiao. As long as he gives the approval, we’ll let him go immediately.” He now realized just how troublesome this matter was and wanted no part in it, so he laid his cards on the table.

”I have to hang up now,” Dong Wencheng said, massaging his temples as he ended the call.

It’s actually Elder Xiao, Xiao Nanshan? This has gotten complicated.

However, he quickly calmed down and dialed the number of a special department.

RING... RING... RING...

After a moment, the call connected. A calm voice came through. ”Hello, this is Thunder Dragon of Flying Leopard. Who is this?”

”Hello, Instructor Lei Long. This is Dong Wencheng from Tongzhou in Jiangnan Province,” Dong Wencheng said, his tone immediately turning respectful. Clearly, given the other party’s rank and position, even a man of his status had to show respect and tread carefully.

It was clear Lei Long knew who Dong Wencheng was. ”Oh, Secretary Dong,” he said, his tone turning serious. ”What’s the matter?”

”Well, I was hoping to ask you, Instructor Lei... do you know a Mr. Chen?” Dong Wencheng inquired.

”Mr. Chen? Wait, are you talking about Doctor Chen Fei?” Just as Dong Wencheng was pondering how to broach the subject, he heard Instructor Lei Long’s voice suddenly rise in pitch, betraying his shock.

”Yes, that’s right. Doctor Chen Fei. Do you know him, Instructor Lei?” Dong Wencheng nodded, a flicker of astonishment in his eyes.

Before making the call, he had thought the other party would probably know Mr. Chen. However, he had never expected such a strong reaction. Upon hearing just the name—or perhaps the honorific—the man’s voice had risen sharply as he instantly recognized who he was talking about.

”Of course I know him. Mr. Chen is one of ours, a member of the Flying Leopard. What is it, Secretary Dong? Has something happened to him?”

The words that came through the phone left Dong Wencheng utterly stupefied.

What? Mr. Chen is a member of the Flying Leopard?

”So that’s how it is. This should be much easier to handle then.” He let out a slight sigh of relief. With the Flying Leopard for backing, what was the Jiangnan Province Military Region’s Special Security Bureau? Nothing to worry about.

”Instructor Lei, here’s what happened...” He then relayed everything he knew without holding anything back.

Lei Long couldn’t help but explode in rage. ”What?! Preposterous!” he roared, his chiseled face quivering with fury.

Is this a joke? Dong Wencheng might not know Chen Fei’s full background, but he, Lei Long, certainly did. The man was a legendary Innate Expert of Ancient Martial Arts! His threat level was hair-raisingly high; he could single-handedly fight an entire battalion, maybe even a division! A truly monstrous existence! Moreover, Chen Fei was now the Flying Leopard’s honorary instructor—their new backbone and pillar! And now he’d been arrested? Under such a ludicrous pretext?

The people from the Island Country... To hell with those bastards!

Lei Long took a deep breath. ”Hah... Thank you for calling me, Secretary Dong. You did the right thing. Don’t worry about this anymore. We’ll handle it.”

”Alright, I understand, Instructor Lei. I’ll hang up then,” Dong Wencheng replied, numb with shock but also relieved.

The line went dead. Without a moment’s hesitation, Lei Long frantically dialed Luo Yuanzhi’s number.

”Little Lei? What’s up?” The voice of Elder Luo, Luo Yuanzhi, came from the phone.

The next moment, Lei Long’s grave voice came through the receiver. ”It’s bad, Elder Luo. Mr. Chen has been arrested.”

”What did you say!?”

Luo Yuanzhi’s wrist shook violently. The teacup in his hand fell to the ground, shattering into several pieces and splashing tea on his clothes, but he seemed not to notice. Taking a deep, grim breath, he demanded, ”Explain. What exactly happened? Who had the audacity to arrest Chen Fei?”

”It’s the Jiangnan Province Military Region’s Special Security Bureau,” Lei Long said urgently. ”Elder Luo, you should call them right now. I’m afraid something terrible might happen if we delay.”

”A phone call? No need. We’re going there in person, right now. I’d like to see for myself just what they plan to do with Young Chen,” Luo Yuanzhi said without a shred of hesitation.

He was fully aware of both Chen Fei’s importance and the threat he posed. This was a matter he had to handle personally.
