Myriad Heavens: Rise of the Rune God

Chapter 189: Chapter 189: The Outward March

KRETH’MAR FLAGSHIP – IRON TIDE – BRIDGE

The bridge operated in near-darkness, illuminated only by the pale blue glow of quantum mapping arrays, while the heavy air carried the sharp scent of ozone and recycled coolant. Crew members moved through the dim light in complete silence, their hands flying across control panels without a single spoken command or decorative banner to break the quiet hum of a war machine running on empty. Commander Rhas stood at the center of the room with his arms crossed, his dark armor bearing the deep scars of a hundred campaigns as he watched the navigation array lock onto a faint, bleeding trail in spacetime.

”Wormhole coordinates confirmed,” Navigator Orenn reported, his voice flat. ”The Nycton exit point has been cracked and located. Distance: forty-two light-years from our current position.”

Rhas nodded. ”Fuel reserves?”

”Twelve percent,” Orenn replied. ”Sublight burn would drain us before we reach the target. We need a short jump to close the gap.”

”Make it,” Rhas said. He turned to the long-range quantum scanner just as the screen refreshed and poured in a flood of new data that made his eyes narrow. The sensors indicated that the target system was far from empty, instead showing dense energy signatures, orbital megastructures, planetary shields, active fleet movements, and industrial output that pushed far beyond standard readings. It was not the primitive civilization recorded in their archives, but a thriving and fully operational empire that was clearly armed and waiting.

”They have a civilization there,” Rhas said quietly. ”Fully operational. Armed and waiting.”

A low chuckle echoed from the back of the bridge as Inquisitor Vael stepped forward, his smooth, unmarked armor radiating a heavy presence that seemed to press down on the air around him. He did not look at the tactical screens, choosing instead to gaze out at the distant stars.

”It looks like we will have an extra hunt before going home, boys,” Vael said, his voice calm and almost bored. ”Clear the path.”

Rhas offered no argument, simply nodding to the navigator. ”Engage warp drive. Jump on my mark. Three... two... one.”

The ship shuddered violently as space folded around it, stretching the stars into thin lines before the Iron Tide vanished into the fold alongside the rest of the hunter fleet.

EARTH – PRIVATE FORGE CHAMBER

Deep beneath the Himalayan plateau, Orion stood in a quiet forge chamber where the walls were lined with cooling vents and heavy energy dampeners. In the center of the room, a black stone table held his katana and his combat suit, waiting for the final preparations. He did not waste time on hesitation, picking up the blade first because the old concept runes were glowing faintly and had already become outdated. Concepts were merely stepping stones, while Laws formed the true foundation of Star-level power. He placed his palm flat against the steel and pushed his Law energy directly into the spatial-infused metal, causing the old runes to crack and fade away. In their place, eighteen new Law runes burned themselves into the blade, each one pulsing in perfect rhythm with the five golden rings orbiting his brain. The katana stopped looking like a simple weapon and transformed into a living channel that no longer held raw, unrefined power, but instead operated on precise universal rules.

Once the blade was complete, he set it aside and turned his attention to the combat suit, which had grown too bulky for his new meridians and trapped too much heat during high-output maneuvers. He pulled together the Laws of Matter, Life, and Order, breaking the heavy armor down into fine exotic-nanite threads before weaving them back together layer by layer to match his exact spiritual flow. The new suit formed around him in a thin, lean design that fit like a second skin without heavy plates or stiff joints. It moved exactly like normal clothes while maintaining Star-level durability and channeling Law energy straight into his meridians without overheating his brain. He dressed quickly, feeling the fabric settle against his skin as the weight dropped away and his movement became completely unrestricted.

He picked up the katana again and ran through four core techniques he had created to test the new Law integration, moving with deliberate control rather than wild strikes.

For the First Form, Severance, he drew the blade while combining the Laws of Space and Void, causing the distance between him and the training dummy to vanish entirely as the cut passed through erased gaps in reality without resistance or warning, splitting the target cleanly in half.

He transitioned smoothly into the Second Form, Collapse, gathering stellar white flames into the tip of the blade, compressing them with Gravity, and locking the charge with Energy before stepping forward to strike. The impact imploded first, then detonated in a tight, focused burst that vaporized the target while keeping the shockwave completely contained.

He closed his eyes for the Third Form, Intercept, allowing the Law of Probability to read the energy flow around him and map exactly where a moving target would step three seconds later. He channeled Fire and Lightning through the blade, used Space to fold the strike path, and swung at empty air. A moment later, a spatial-stellar disintegration ray appeared precisely where the dummy would move and erased it mid-step without chasing or missing.

For the Fourth Form, Drain, he layered the Laws of Darkness, Death, and Life while deliberately removing Light from the sequence. He used Darkness to mask his presence, Death to sever energy links, and Life to pull vitality inward. As he slashed downward, the blade did not just cut through the material but actively drained the life force from the target, pulling it through the steel and into his own meridians until the dummy withered and his stamina fully replenished.

The forge chamber around him bore the quiet scars of his practice, with fractures in spacetime hanging suspended in the air like cracked glass. He had not launched a single full strike during the drills, nor had he channeled the true weight of his Laws into the techniques. He relied only on his willpower and the smallest possible application of each principle, deliberately holding back nearly all of his output. If he had unleashed even a fraction of his full Star-level power, the resulting shockwaves would have torn through the planet’s crust and shattered the entire solar system. To keep the practice contained, he had covered every wall, floor, and ceiling with dense arrays of Law runes. These runes formed a silent, invisible cage that absorbed, blocked, and restrained every stray slash and displaced energy, locking the devastating force inside the chamber while allowing him to refine his control without risking the worlds above. He stopped, breathed out slowly, and sheathed the katana as the low hum in the room faded away, feeling completely ready for what was coming next.

TWO DAYS LATER – LUNAR COMMAND CENTER

Two days later, the countdown finally hit zero as Orion stood on the lunar observation deck with his eyes closed and his divine sense stretched to its absolute limit. The void had remained completely quiet for forty-eight hours, offering no signals, no jumps, and no spiritual pressure, until a massive spatial tear finally ripped open twenty light-years away from the solar system. The wormhole exit flared bright against the dark vacuum before collapsing inward, sending ripples through space that spread outward like a stone dropped in still water. Orion opened his eyes the moment the jump completed, detecting exactly five heavy, sharp presences flaring from the other side. They were Star Realm beings, and they had felt his divine sense the instant it brushed against their signatures, immediately turning their attention back toward his system.

What Orion could not see, however, was the sixth presence resting deep within the flagship’s command spire. Unknown to him, a hidden figure concealed their aura not through tricks or shielding, but through sheer spiritual weight, folding their power inward until it vanished from all external perception. This being existed far beyond the Initiate, beginner, or even advance tier, possessing a comprehension of the Laws that dwarfed anything the human empire had yet faced, and they watched the silent standoff with patient, calculating stillness while Orion remained completely unaware of the true threat waiting in the dark.

(Oh looks like our mc is in trouble)

Meanwhile, Orion did not panic or hesitate, simply turning to the comms panel to contact Rene and order the civilian grids locked down. Cassia’s face appeared instantly on the screen, her expression tight. ”Are they here?”

”They’re out,” Orion said. ”Twenty light-years. Five Star-level presences confirmed.”

Cassia’s jaw tightened. ”Civilian status?”

”Already moving non-combat personnel to Lunar bunkers and Martian domes. Planetary shields at maximum. Ghost Fleet holding perimeter,” Rene’s voice cut in. ”Kreth’mar fleet composition matches Nycton intel. One flagship. Six hunter-cruisers. Support wing behind them. They are moving fast.”

Orion nodded. ”We don’t wait for them to reach the system. Law clashes will tear through light-years. If we fight near Earth or Mars, the colonies die. We push out.”

He tapped the fleet command channel. ”Rene. Mobilize the forward screen. I want five thousand Type 3 capital ships. Match their numbers exactly. Stage them at the outer heliopause. We intercept in the deep void.”

”Queues active,” Rene replied. ”Ships launching from Jovian and Saturnian yards. Crews are simulation-trained. Type 3 refits complete. Fleet forming in ten minutes.”

Orion said, his voice calm. ”I’ll handle the five Star-level beings. The fleet keeps the vanguard busy. We hold the line. We protect the core worlds first. Everything else comes after.”

He cut the link, folded space across the void, and appeared on the bridge of the Aegis of Sol. The ship hummed steadily beneath his boots, and the crew sat in their neural pods without a single unnecessary word.

”Engage spatial drives,” Orion ordered. ”Set course for the outer void. Hold formation at fifty million kilometers from the jump point. We meet them before they cross the line.”

The entire fleet shuddered as five thousand Type 3 ships powered up their drives, and one by one, they folded space and jumped into the cold dark.

OUTER VOID – INTERCEPT ZONE

Space in the intercept zone remained cold and completely empty, offering no planets, no dust clouds, and nothing but open vacuum to absorb the coming violence. The human fleet dropped out of their spatial folds in perfect formation, arranging five thousand silver-black hulls at even intervals with weapons powered down and shields held idle. They did not look like a desperate militia forced into a corner, but rather like a solid, immovable wall waiting for the tide to break against it. Orion stood at the center of the bridge with his lean suit blending into the dim lighting, his katana resting quietly at his side while his divine sense stretched forward to map the incoming jump signatures.

Twenty light-years away, the Kreth’mar fleet broke out of their micro-jumps, their bone-white hulls cutting through the dark as red energy veins pulsed along their armor in steady, predatory rhythms. They saw the human fleet waiting for them in perfect silence, and on the enemy bridge, Commander Rhas frowned at the tactical display. The formation was too clean, too disciplined, and the energy readings pushed far beyond anything their archives predicted.

”They knew we were coming,” Rhas said.

Inquisitor Vael opened his eyes and let his spiritual sense brush across the human line. He felt the heavy, stable weight of a single Star-level presence that felt layered and completely unshaken. His mouth curled into a faint smirk.

”They brought a wall. We brought hammers. Let them break.”

The Kreth’mar fleet slowed its advance without charging, holding position while the human fleet mirrored their stillness. Space went completely silent as both sides watched each other across the vast dark, waiting for the first move while the hidden presence on the flagship remained folded inward, patient and completely unseen. Orion rested his hand lightly on his katana hilt, breathing slow and steady, ready to draw the moment the silence broke.
