High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 2349: Chapter 570: Thunder Falling Like Rain

Dong, dong, dong!

The bronze ancient clock hung high above the pyramid, slowly rotating, emitting a deafening sound. Visible sound waves descended from the sky, like invisible ropes, wrapping around the pyramid, rendering it immobile.

Enormous long snakes tightened like anchor ropes, slowly dragging the pyramid with the help of wolves and bears, inching closer to the ground.

The pyramid building’s metallic shell meant that the various hunting teams present found it difficult to break it in a short time. So, pulling it down from the sky might be the only way to calm the School Guardian Array’s ’anger’.

But clearly, the black wizard controlling the pyramid had no intention of complying with the hunters’ wishes.

Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!

Billowing clouds of colorful smoke poured out from the beehive-like holes surrounding the pyramid, mixing, blending, and consolidating in the air, as if someone wielded a giant paintbrush to create an enormous head that enveloped the pyramid building.

In other words, what’s floating in mid-air now is a gigantic head.

Its face appears aged, with sparse hair, half-bald at the back, wisps of gray hair fluttering in the breeze, exposing a wrinkled old monkey-like face. Contrary to its visage, its eyes are filled with vitality, yet beneath that vitality flickers a frenzy and wickedness, daunting to behold.

”Walter!”

The trident sword wizard instantly recognized the owner of that face. The massive bear rose, its nose almost brushing against the whiskers of the old face, and its huge roar shook the entire battlefield: ”Alliance B-level wanted fugitive, bounty of one thousand two hundred jade coins! How dare you come to Buji Island? How dare you!!”

Zheng Qing hadn’t heard of Walter’s name before, which wasn’t surprising considering the Alliance’s arrest warrant listed thousands of demons and black wizards—he couldn’t remember them all.

The only thing that intrigued the young cost student was this man’s identity.

”Isn’t this illegal laboratory run by those Ravens?” Zheng Qing stared at the giant head in the sky, a hint of confusion in his eyes: ”I always thought the ’Ravens’ were school wizards.”

”Never use the logic of normal wizards to judge the behavioral rules of black wizards, or your mind will unknowingly become twisted,” Xiao Xiao warned his captain.

”Hehehaha...”

A strange, jarring laughter interrupted the young wizard’s brief discussion. The giant head in the sky opened its mouth, revealing its crooked, decaying teeth: ”Only a thousand two hundred jade coins? How truly disappointing... hehehaha...”

”If you are willing to come down and negotiate properly, I trust everyone will agree to help you draft an application for a higher reward to the Trident Sword.” A slightly indifferent female voice interrupted Walter’s manic laughter, speaking quickly: ”Three thousand? Five thousand? Or ten thousand? How much do you think you’re worth?”

It was the large snake speaking.

When the smoke billowed, the snake swiftly slid off the pyramid, now coiled beneath the giant head, its tongue darting out slightly.

Hearing her suggestion, both sides of the battlefield fell silent.

”The energy of the Thunder Curse in the guardian array is still accumulating, so we’ll definitely be affected,” Xin Fat Man, most sensitive to the external environment, spoke from the array’s eye: ”Do we start the Second Rank now?”

When realizing that the School Guardian Array would launch an attack, if the school’s and Trident Sword’s hunters didn’t retreat immediately, it might be due to the battlefield’s size or wishful thinking.

With the clouds accumulating thicker above, as the guardian array’s ’gaze’ descended, everyone’s remaining wishful thinking faded completely.

Including the Mousewife feigning dead beneath the decomposed layer, all life beneath the cloud cover clearly sensed a pair of eyes staring at them from high above, a thorn in the back—a hallucination generated when locked by the array.

This meant that even if they fled the battlefield, they couldn’t escape attacks from the guardian array.

”Wait a moment.”

Xiao Xiao calmly responded: ”According to cloud volume and magic power gathering speed, the thunder curse won’t hit for at least forty seconds... No one knows how long the attack will last... There’s still a chance.”

He didn’t specify whether this opportunity was for Atonement to activate the Second Rank formation or for the four hunting teams to pull the big head down from the sky.

Zheng Qing thought it didn’t make much difference.

Because forty seconds pass in a blink.

And neither side retreated. The thin-haired black wizard chanted spell after spell in a shrill voice, attempting to escape the dual binds of spatial anchors and sound waves; while the three hunting teams on the ground tried all sorts of methods to drag that large head down from the sky.

Crack.

A slender silver-white lightning bolt fell amidst this tense atmosphere, accurately striking the large head’s brow, singeing one of its eyebrows into a curl.

The chanting black wizard, swaying bronze clock, coiled snake, roaring bear, and howling giant wolf, all fell silent at that moment.

”Second Rank activation!” Xiao Xiao’s urgent voice echoed within the magic envelope of the Atonement Hunting Team.

In just a blink, a giant over dozens of feet tall sprung up from the edge of the battlefield, its indigo skin framed by the gray-white sky, appearing exceedingly tiny.

Simultaneously, from two directions far from Atonement, huge figures rose at the battlefield’s edge as well, one with a tiger head and vermilion hair, topped by large horns, resembling a mythical beast; the other a simple cross shape.

These were similar to Atonement’s other two hunting teams, also activating their Second Rank formations.

Pa, pa!

Crackle! Crackle!

Like a summer storm, bean-sized raindrops fell from the sky and struck the ground, the sound of silver-white lightning bolts descending one after another, crisp and dense, continuous, blending light and sound and wind and shadow, as if the world momentarily reverted to chaos.

In just a brief time, the originally seemingly indestructible, solid Bo Fu Clan giant of the Atonement Hunting Team was struck by the torrential lightning until its whole body became almost transparent, on the verge of disintegration the next second.

”Restricting South Mountain!”

Xiao Xiao, his face full of pain, took out a small scroll from his pocket, tore it open, and threw it out.

It was the prize from Old Yao last year for Atonement Hunting Team’s excellent performance in the school hunting competition—a talisman imbued with legendary energy, conveniently a guarding spell—perfect for this occasion.

The talisman paper floated out, releasing a subtle yet lofty aura, as though a thin veil enveloped the entire Bo Fu Clan giant, upon which the dense lightning struck, unable to stir a ripple.

With this barrier, the Bo Fu Clan giant of the Atonement Hunting Team, initially nearly transparent and seemingly on the verge of disintegration, gradually solidified again.
