Chapter 2313: Chapter 534: Raven Chanting Sutras

The Fat Wizard’s choice of words was very cautious.

He didn’t explicitly mention Korma’s name.

But all three young wizards knew he had already uttered that name.

Compared to others, Zheng Qing was more sensitive to the captive’s previous mention of ’breaking the binds of the rules.’

He was unsure whether the Ravens intended to break the ’true rules’ of the world or just the ’social rules’ of ethics and morality.

If it was the former, then the Ravens were not merely conducting some illegal bloodline experiments in secret; they were likely coveting Forbidden Curse, and the risk of this case would immediately multiply, exceeding the student Hunting Team’s capacity. He even somewhat sensitively speculated whether he had fallen into some trap, with the Ravens’ real target actually being him?

Thinking of this, he instinctively glanced around.

Although it was still winter, the warmth and moisture brought by the Gulf Stream from Mexico made this area’s climate relatively mild and humid, with thriving vegetation.

Luckily, it was nearing mid-month, and the moonlight at night was very bright, almost illuminating the surrounding scenery without needing a Lighting Spell. Distant towering oak trees, beeches, and low shrubs intertwined, appearing indistinct; nearby rocks and meadows were also fully visible, with no unusual activities.

”Do you think so too?” Xiao Xiao noticed Zheng Qing’s small action and asked.

Zheng Qing couldn’t tell his companions his worse suspicion, so he just muddled his expression and ambiguously waved his hand, intending to conclude the temporarily arranged investigation task as quickly as possible: ”While we can’t rule out any possibility, that was just one-sided words from that guy... and our own groundless imagination. Without jumping to conclusions, let’s follow the predetermined plan, head to that Dragon Hunting Ground, and investigate the Sprite frenzy incident.”

At that moment, he noticed Dylan, who was leading the way, had stopped and beckoned back.

The young wizards exchanged glances and accelerated their pace synchronously.

”What’s going on?”

Holding the Charm Gun, Zheng Qing looked around warily.

”We’re almost at the Dragon Hunting Ground; I suggest the Hunting Team rest a bit here.”

While speaking, Dylan pointed at a stone tower standing on a nearby low ridge and explained simply: ”According to Mr. Pete’s description, that small tower marks the entrance to the Dragon Hunting Ground. At our current pace, we’ll be there in about ten minutes... do we still need Mr. Pete to lead the way?”

Zheng Qing glanced at the short and stout Warlock, who was holding his hat under his arm, smiling obsequiously at the Cat Mask wizards.

The Absolution Hunting Team captain pondered for a few seconds.

”If you feel unsafe returning at night, you can follow us and stay at the Dragon Hunting Ground overnight,” he advised the guide wizard: ”Of course, you can also sign a Silence Contract and leave now...”

”I’ll sign, sign now!” Luni Pette eagerly agreed, drawing a crumpled Feather Pen from his belt, full of smiles.

Looking like staying longer would shorten his lifespan.

The young cost student with the Cat Mask curled his lips and signaled the Doctor to take out a contract.

As Luni Pette carefully read the contract content, Zheng Qing noticed Xin Fat Man was rubbing his chin, looking thoughtful.

”What did you think of?” He thought the Fat Wizard had discovered some clue.

”The captive’s answer after using the Truth Serum.” The Fat Wizard squinted his eyes, reminiscing: ”Did you feel that the ’White Crow’ seemed to be ’reciting scriptures’ when answering questions?”

”Reciting scriptures?” Zheng Qing mulled over the word, unexpectedly finding it apt: ”What do you think?”

He looked at Dylan.

As the interrogation officer, the Blood Werewolf had the most say in this matter.

”It’s very normal.”

Adjusting the spell formulas in the Law Book, Dylan answered without looking up: ”For wizards who set mist locks in the Conscious Sea like this, it’s hard to get straightforward, accurate answers. Each response to ’keyword’ questions spins in the mist for a long time before emerging... It’s just that we destroyed outside magical mediums that helped him strengthen his mental barriers, so we could extract a bit... Actually, I was prepared for him to repeat circular words—like his answer ’the Professor is the Professor’.”

On the other side, Xiao Xiao had already sent away Mr. Luni Pette and curiously joined.

”I remember ’Real Experiences of the Soul’ calling this phenomenon ’echoes of the maze’.”

The Atonement Hunting Team’s Diviner chimed in, using an illustrative term for Dylan’s description: ”...the true voice is altered, revised after passing through the mist, like echoes in a maze or valley, repeated and distorted... A more appropriate analogy might be light... A beam of light becomes a spectrum through a prism; its essence unchanged, but its appearance more colorful and harder to comprehend. Do you know what the three elements of religion are?”

He asked everyone a question.

”Church, doctrine, religious sentiment.” Zheng Qing confidently answered; he had seen the theory in the library.

”I remember Shi Yuan saying it was Buddha, Dharma, Sangha?” Xin Fat Man was somewhat uncertain.

”Faith, ritual, community.” Dylan also gave his answer: ”Old wizard organizations love establishing religions to gather resources... Any religion has these three indispensable elements.”

Blue Bird, as always, didn’t engage in this mundane discussion.

Xiao Xiao shrugged, habitually touching the mask on his face: ”These answers can all be right or incomplete. Generally speaking, divinity, law, and organization are the three elements... By extension, these can be idol, follower, theory; consciousness, behavior, organization; leader, follower, scripture; or Shi Yuan’s Buddhist family treasures.”

”So?” Zheng Qing thought their resting time was enough and intended to end the Doctor’s religious lecture.

”So, as we’ve observed, the Ravens are ’reciting scriptures’... They’re no longer just a simple illegal organization conducting Black Magic experiments.”

Xiao Xiao concisely concluded: ”They have trained members, their own scriptures, their own idol—’the Professor’... From this perspective, the Ravens are already a mature religious group.”

This conclusion made Zheng Qing swallow the words he was about to say.

”Now that you mention it, I increasingly suspect the Northern District wizards,” the Fat Wizard mumbled in his ear: ”On the entire Buji Island, there’s no organization more resembling a Black Magic religion than the Northern District wizards...”

”No, there’s another one.” Zheng Qing half-jokingly interrupted him: ”The sect Li Meng is in, worshiping Su Councilor, is more fervent... and more dangerous than the Northern District wizards.”
