High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 2309: Chapter 530: Magic Leech

The white linen rolled in midair and instantly transformed into a swarm of white crows. Their eyes were blazing red as they flapped their wings with a flurry of noise, cawing wildly, spewing acid and poisonous smoke across the sky in chaos, their sharp claws randomly scratching.

The momentary peace brought by the Calming Incantation was instantly shattered.

Screams, howls of pain, and angry rebukes, mixed with the messy little spells of the countryside wizards, flew around in this small bar, constructing a bizarre scene along with the shattered bottles, dispersed liquor fumes, and burning wood.

Seizing the chaos of the moment, the bar owner discreetly flipped open a hidden door behind the bar, attempting to slip away silently.

”Furry Bean!”

Following a slightly annoyed voice, a grey dog suddenly appeared in the corner between the bar and the wine cabinet, like a whirlwind, biting the ankle of the middle-aged wizard.

A miserable cry ensued.

The bar owner fell heavily at the edge of the hidden door.

At the same time, three spells rose from the Law Book of the cat-masked hunter—

”Wind and Rain Expel, Rodent Goes!”

”Heaven’s Descent! Preserve your grace!”

”Silence and Think!”

A Guarding Curse dispersed the frantically flying white crows and simultaneously raised several membranes of varying thickness, separating the Atonement Hunting Team, the bar patrons, and the bar owner; a Net Spell emerged from the void, bundling the crows into a mass, suspending them under the ceiling; and a Calming Incantation reassured the other patrons who were thrown into chaos again.

”Ge Zhitianxi, act on this rogue!”

Several vines sprouted from the wooden wine cabinet and bar, weaving flexibly beneath the fallen warlock, and within moments, bound him tightly, securing him to the cabinet.

Furry Bean loosened its grip, wagging its tail, cheerfully circling at Zheng Qing’s feet.

Zheng Qing scratched the base of its ears, then tilted his head, looking at Xin Fat Man, who had just boldly downed a glass of Special Frog Juice, his words barely concealing his anger:

”Are you crazy? You guessed there was something wrong with his drink and still dared to drink it? Do you have a death wish?!”

The fat wizard reached into the space between his collar and neck, fumbled for a moment, and finally pinched a chubby worm, flaunting it in front of his team captain: ”I’ve been wanting to test this thing for a while... And I was confident, in a place like this, with wizards of this level, they can’t afford high-grade poisons... I’ve got a nose.”

What he held was a Magic Leech, a special equipment provided by the Trident Sword to the hunting teams for mission execution, just like the cat mask. This magic creature could absorb most toxins and some small curses infiltrated into a wizard’s body, similar to the sprites Zheng Qing kept, all belonging to the Alchemy Creature Kingdom’s magical creatures.

At this moment, the magic leech in the fat wizard’s hand had turned pale blue, though it was unclear if it was satiated with the fat man’s plasma or tainted by the poisons in the frog juice.

Zheng Qing shook his head slightly, suppressing some dissatisfaction, and turned to another matter:

”How did you figure out he was a problem?”

”Don’t tell me you guys didn’t notice!”

Though humble in words, the fat wizard’s eyes couldn’t hide the self-satisfaction, as he divulged his thoughts: ”The name itself, ’White Crow,’ is already suspicious, everyone knows we’re chasing black wizards from somewhere... I just didn’t want to run back and forth, so I set a trap for him. If he took the bait, it would save us some trouble, preventing us from running back and forth; if he was truly innocent, spending a few more minutes wasn’t a big deal after a whole day of work, we needed to fill our bellies before getting down to business.”

This idea was quite a ’win-win.’

”Stop the nonsense, do we have any more Magic Leeches?”

A pale yellow membrane cracked, and Dylan’s slightly anxious voice came through: ”The venom expelled by those white crows is quite complex. Snake oil and fecal stone aren’t effective, and there’s no time to make an antidote... My Magic Leech is already full, does anyone have extras?”

”I have some.”

Blue Bird, without a word, flicked out a glimmer of light.

”What about him?”

Xiao Xiao looked at the middle-aged wizard hanging over the wine cabinet: ”According to the agreement between the school and Trident Sword, we need a formal staff member of Trident Sword present during the interrogation... unless you want to fill out a pile of paperwork afterward.”

Zheng Qing took out his pocket watch, lifted the cover, and glanced at the time.

”It’s already late, and who knows how long it will take for the people from London to arrive.” He made a decision almost immediately: ”Given the urgency, let’s handle this first... Do we have any Truth Serum? Should we knock him out?”

Bang!

The fat wizard snapped his fingers loudly, eagerly retrieving a small bottle of transparent liquid, waving it in front of his team captain: ”The Trident Sword’s supply manager is very generous, I have all the usual potions needed for missions here, including the Transformation Potion, Invisibility Potion, and the Wolf Poison Potion Dylan needs... I reckon tomorrow or the day after is Dylan’s ’time’... haven’t you noticed he’s been getting more irritable lately?”

”I didn’t know I needed a Wolf Poison Potion for mission execution,” a cold voice suddenly sounded from behind the fat wizard, Dylan pinching two plump black leeches in his hand, seemingly ready to crush them the next moment.

The fat wizard hunched his shoulders, jogging over to the captive, ready to administer the Truth Serum.

Xiao Xiao timely reminded a certain emotionally unstable member: ”Magic Leeches are controlled alchemy products by the Alliance, each with a black market price of over twenty jade coins, consistently in demand with no supply, and even within Trident Sword they are priced at ten jade coins per leech, moreover...”

Pop, pop.

Dylan didn’t care much as he crushed the two little worms, splattering dark sticky fluid everywhere. As the young master of both the O’Brien and Tabbot families, Dylan’s wallet has always been well-filled.

”... The school will also deduct points from the practical examination score of those responsible for property damage, based on the mission details,” Doctor Xiao slowly adjusted imaginary glasses on his mask, adding leisurely.

Mister Wolfman’s arm, suspended midair, froze slightly, turning slowly to the short warlock: ”They’ll deduct credit points? Why didn’t you say so earlier?”

”It was mentioned at least twice before the mission.” Zheng Qing seized a rare opportunity to explain on behalf of Xiao Xiao, quickly mediating: ”But this isn’t your fault, we’ll file a report afterward... The fatty already gave him the Truth Serum, let’s see if he has any crucial intel first!”

”As if you’ve ever written a report,” Xiao Xiao quipped from behind him.

In front of the wine cabinet.

The captive, who had taken the potent Truth Serum, had been released from the Binding Spell by the fat wizard, was now leaning against the counter, limp and slumped on the floor, his eyes vacant, his cheeks slack, and a trickle of cloudy saliva dribbled from the corner of his slightly open mouth.
