High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 2315: Chapter 536: Accident Scene

The magic carpet prepared by Vas Eagle for the Absolution seems quite aged, yet it doesn’t appear worn out at all.

The patterns of Dragon Luminous Grass and Persian Pear Blossom embroidered with gold and silver threads in the center of the magic carpet shimmer under the moonlight, as if newly stitched. The long fur used to weave the carpet, from which creature it originates is unknown, feels delicate, smooth, and soft. Sitting on the carpet, one can clearly feel the pulsating magic power beneath them.

Milk-white spell light flows along the texture of the long fur, illuminating the magical gemstones embedded at different nodes, lifting the huge magic carpet to glide silently through the night, stable and powerful, without disturbing the birds perched on the treetops even as it brushes past the branches.

Until the magic carpet stopped at about half a person’s height, and the young hunters landed one after another, Zheng Qing had the chance to express to his companions through the mask:

”This thing is really useful... We should also buy a few to keep, it saves magic power compared to flying curses, it’s faster than armor horse charms, and way better than things like magic brooms!”

”Why isn’t such a good thing widely used?” Xiao Xiao’s simple rhetorical question immediately left the young fee-paying students speechless.

”One word, expensive; two words, very expensive; three words, extremely expensive.”

Xin Fat Man smacked his lips, openly showing his envy of the rich: ”The gemstones on the magic carpet, the magic long fur, and the spells outlined with gold and silver threads all require regular maintenance... Moreover, its magic loop is easily polluted and not easy to clean... Only the Eagle family can afford such a large Dragon Hunting Ground, otherwise, the average person really can’t afford to use it.”

”Just like how you usually like to use talismans as weapons or casually use charm guns, it’s the same principle.”

Dylan also chimed in, offering Zheng Qing a new perspective: ”Do you think other students in school don’t know that charm guns are useful and talismans are convenient? Ultimately, it’s a matter of cost-effectiveness. Only someone like you with a hacked talisman painting talent can use talisman bullets and talismans as if they cost nothing.”

The feeling of being praised and despised at the same time was contradictory and strange.

Zheng Qing had not yet figured out this subtle feeling when Vas Eagle, leading the way, stopped by a post about ten feet high and as thick as an arm.

Some ancient spell texts were crudely carved on the post, vaguely bearing traces of Enochian Text but not quite the same. Around them was the very ordinary forest night—low shrubs, tall trees, the faint sound of insects, and the subtle rustling in the grass tufts.

”Here we are.”

Vas Eagle turned his head to look at the five cat-faced wizards, speaking concisely: ”Because the situation was quite bad at the time, to protect the scene and to avoid the risk of possible pollution spreading, the family temporarily set up an isolation barrier in this area.”

As he spoke, he exerted a little force upward with his wrist, and the post was pulled up lightly as if it were a toothpick.

As the post left the ground, the cool moonlight rippled like flowing water, and the magic fluctuations spreading in all directions could almost be seen with the naked eye in the air, like ripples stirred by a stone thrown into a calm lake.

As the ripples spread, Zheng Qing felt as if someone was wiping a steam-fogged glass with a giant cloth; the blurry and hazy feeling quickly faded away, and the scene changed abruptly in front of everyone.

The originally ordinary open forest land instantly transformed into a deep red, with dragon bones scattered all around, shattered scale armor, and mottled flesh and blood intertwined in white and red appearing like another magic carpet full of bizarre style laid in front of the young hunters, an overwhelming aura of tragedy and chaos rushed toward them, suffocating.

The pleasant chat inside the cat masks also came to an abrupt stop.

Zheng Qing silently walked a few steps forward.

Reached out.

Plucked a piece of broken scale armor from the remains of a half-charred apple tree, it was made up of several diamond-shaped shield scales embedded together, giving a sense of weight and sturdiness when held between fingers, this feeling intertwined with the jagged broken edges of the scale armor increased the heaviness in one’s heart.

Behind him, the other hunters of the Absolution Hunting Team had quietly scattered, following the standard investigation process to collect evidence and gather clues.

Hiss.

The young fee-paying student took a sharp breath under the mask, the dragon blood remaining on the dragon scale still carried some irritant, giving a slight scald to his fingertips.

”I heard you’re a student of the First University... After this incident happened, didn’t you think of notifying the school?” Zheng Qing flipped the scale armor in his hand, looking at the net-like blood and flesh traces on its back, he absentmindedly asked the serious-faced Vas Eagle standing beside him.

Not far away, Xiao Xiao had already ignited a small pile of magic flame, throwing in a few pieces of picked-up dragon bone fragments to prepare for the subsequent divination work.

”I did notify them.”

The young master of the Dragon Hunting Ground furrowed his brow, speaking with a slightly displeased tone: ”I originally preferred the school to send people. But the school stated that local affairs were better handled by the Trident Sword... Um, sorry, I did not mean to belittle the Trident Sword, what I mean to say is that in any case, a large part of the Trident Sword’s employees are students from the First University, so there’s no real difference.”

Zheng Qing blinked, feeling that this topic was a bit delicate.

And it seemed this young master wasn’t very tactful with his words.

”I heard there were several eyewitnesses when the accident happened in the hunting ground? Are they available for investigation now?” He deftly changed the topic.

Vas Eagle nodded slightly.

”There indeed are a few eyewitnesses, such as Barry Moore, he is the three-headed dog keeper at the Dragon Hunting Ground.” Pausing for a few seconds, Vas hesitantly added:

”Earlier, I already had them take magic potions to rest because the scenes like these are very stimulating to low-tier wizards... In fact, I feel that you might trust the traces left at the accident scene more than the words of a three-headed dog keeper. I remember Professor Sun Qi once said, stories are always stories, four eyewitnesses can tell four completely different yet entirely true stories about the same event.”

Sun Qi is the dean of Starry Sky Academy, Zheng Qing’s most vivid impression of him comes from that giant and wild battle golem true form during the Battle of the Black Prison.

”Details might differ, but the key points should be the same.” Zheng Qing reminded.

”That’s right,” Vas clearly agreed with this viewpoint: ”In this story, the key points are three: a frenzied sprite, a torn apart Romanian Longhorn Dragon... and the remnants of their battlefield.”

”So, what’s your take on this incident?” Zheng Qing pressed on.

This time, the young master of the Dragon Hunting Ground fell silent for a long time before carefully replying: ”I can only say that while the Fire Dragon materials from this hunting ground may have a broad market, the Eagle family would absolutely never be involved with any Black Wizards.”

Implicitly, he also believed that this matter was somehow related to the Black Wizards.
