High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 1794: Chapter 15: Reexamining the Black Prison Incident

”Because this is the plan of The Radical Group and the new generation, the Black Prison War has not received full support from the Alliance.”

”Because the Wizards’ goal is those top-tier Great Demons, you can see that the Dark Beasts and Dark Council Members who obtained the Xuanhuang Fruit on the battlefield did not face the full force of the school’s attacks... In contrast, throughout the war, no Great Demon obtained the Xuanhuang Fruit.”

Upon hearing this, Zheng Qing instinctively thought of the streamer that flew into the mouth of the three-headed and eight-armed Giant Ape, opened his mouth, and then tried hard to close it again.

The gentleman seemed to know what he was thinking.

”Professor Yao is a school’s professor, not belonging to the Demons.” He looked at Zheng Qing, emphasizing once again: ”He is no longer a Demon.”

The Young Wizard immediately nodded repeatedly.

The gentleman’s expression eased a bit.

”Of course, I’ve also told you many times before that this world is a complex, contradictory, and interlinked giant system, involving reality, and there are few events with simple and clear causality.”

”Like I just said, no Xuanhuang Fruit fell into the hands of the Demons. Apart from the Wizards’ full attack, internal constraints within the Demons are also an important factor... Here, we must mention the Sea Demon King Xiangliu.”

Zheng Qing did not have a clear understanding of this famous Legendary Demon. When the Sea Demon King appeared on the battlefield and fought Vice Principal Shi Hui, Zheng Qing was still fleeing everywhere with Jiang Yu and the Black Cat in the desolate world; when the Sea Demon King burst out of the dead silent small world and returned to the battlefield, the young cost student had already lost consciousness due to the pocket watch draining his magic power.

Failing to witness the Legendary Demon’s figure firsthand was considered a small regret during his journey to the Black Prison. So, when he heard the gentleman mention the three words Sea Demon King, he immediately perked up his ears and concentrated his spirit a little more.

”Before talking about Xiangliu, you need to understand the concept behind the words high-level Wizard.”

The gentleman did not immediately describe to Zheng Qing how powerful the Sea Demon King Xiangliu was or what it looked like, but patiently started explaining from the most basic concepts:

”If ordinary Wizards belong to low-tier Wizards, and registered Wizards belong to mid-tier Wizards, then Wizards above the registered level all belong to high-tier Wizards.”

”Above the registered level is the Big Wizard, the clearest mark of achieving Big Wizardry is the forging of a true form because its true form is immense, hence calling it ’Big’.”

”Above the Big Wizard is the Legendary; their existence is a legend, their actions are miracles. After achieving Legend, the Wizard’s self-existence has already transcended dimensions, capable of evolving a world that is real and unarguable.”

”Above Legend is the Ancient Wizard, also referred to by many as ’Ancient One.’ If the Legendary Wizard transcends dimensions, able to touch the mist over the river of time, then the Ancient Ones have entirely detached from the river of time... But this detachment is not without cost, they need to ’reimburse’ the world that nurtured them.”

”There are two ways of reimbursement: one is subtraction, continually discarding everything they’ve plundered from this world, and this discarding must be completely clean, without causing new causality, otherwise the entanglement of cause and effect will lead to more trouble instead of less. This is why after achieving Ancient One, Wizards gradually disappear... Thus called ’a sage without self, a god without merit, a saint without name.’”

”The other way of reimbursement is addition, Wizards who achieved Ancient One start exploring broader and more distant dimensions, extracting new spiritual machines from ’nothing’ and sowing them back to this world to compensate for what they took during their growth...”

Hearing this, Zheng Qing’s mind was already like being scratched by a cat, sprouting a series of question marks in his brain.

Like how is the true form of a Big Wizard forged? Organ by organ, or first outline the shadow, then fill it in with reality? Also, can a Legendary Wizard evolve a real world, does it mean each new world has at least one native Legendary? And, how does an Ancient One extract ’presence’ from ’absence’?

However, Zheng Qing also knew that each of the above questions would be worth the gentleman talking about for seven days and nights, but he would never artificially accelerate, straightforwardly pointing out Zheng Qing’s every step in the future.

That way, Zheng Qing’s future would lose ’possibility,’ the greatest opportunity.

So, he could only endure his impatience and continued listening to the gentleman’s voice calmly and clearly resounding in this small ward:

”... The Sea Demon King Xiangliu is not very old, but has extremely high talent, having taken only a few hundred years to go from an ordinary Demon to the top-tier Legendary. This time is not even enough for Leviathan to take a nap... If Xiangliu continued as a Demon according to the usual steps and rules, he would inevitably become new prey for the Demon Ancestor... That is not what he wants.”

Zheng Qing licked his lips, reached for a segment of an orange from the fruit platter, stuffed it into his mouth, and chewed carefully to restrain the impulse to make a comment.

Listen, not very old! A few hundred years! Taking a nap!

And what about this Demon Ancestor, using Legendary Demons as food!

”... So, he must seek change. Thankfully, Xiangliu is very skilled at seizing fleeting opportunities. Just like this time, my advancement brought a massive magic tide sweeping across the world, offering him a perfect opportunity to break free from the binds of the Demon Ancestor and leap to Legend.”

”Then he ambushed and devoured Cthulhu.”

The gentleman mentioned a very strange name, so strange that upon hearing it, Zheng Qing felt like his tongue twisted into a knot. The Young Wizard couldn’t help but repeat the name along with the gentleman—Cthulhu.

The gentleman smiled, watching Zheng Qing, observing his face twist as if he had eaten a whole demon fruit, letting him spit disgust for half a day, and then filling his mouth with fruit.

”How does it taste?” The gentleman chuckled, asking.

”Like crap.” Zheng Qing chewed the orange vigorously, trying hard to forget the taste just now: ”Simply worse than stinky mandarin fish, no, worse than canned herring!”

The gentleman nodded, satisfied.

”Learn from it, remember this feeling, and stay away from the starry sky.” He curled his fingers and tapped Zheng Qing’s skull, immediately a cool sensation brushed away the irritation rising in the Young Wizard’s mind.

”... Cthulhu is an entity deep within the starry sky, also belonging to the Legendary tier.”

The gentleman smiled, unhurried, and continued: ”Xiangliu chose it because their ’attributes’ are similar but their ’paths’ are opposite... To put it simply, both Cthulhu and Xiangliu belong to ’water;’ Xiangliu walks the traditional Demon controlled bright road, while Cthulhu follows the starry path of devouring everything for personal gain... The more detailed content involves excessively esoteric magical knowledge, knowing too much about which is not beneficial to you. You just need to know that after Xiangliu devours Cthulhu, he can leap out of the barriers set by the Demon Ancestor, breakthrough to Legend, and achieve Ancient One.”
