Chapter 1789: Chapter 10: Uninvited Guests

The first time someone asked to be bitten by a rat, it made the Yellow Flowered Cat laugh for quite a while.

But soon, it couldn’t laugh anymore, and instead felt a faint sadness. This sadness was for all those wizards whose paths were cut off and whose aptitude was inferior.

Including itself.

The wizards gathered in the D&K shop might not know, but the Yellow Flowered Cat was aware that the two ’First Generation Rat Clan’ there did not possess the power of a First Generation Vampire or Werewolf.

Because the Rat Immortal progressed to legendary status not merely by forging an ’ancestral position,’ but more because he controlled Giant Zero Three, mastering the forbidden curse developed by the Dark Council—even though that coarse forbidden curse was not perfected, it already had a complete framework and a reasonable convergence approach—the Rat Immortal was able to glimpse the world’s outline through this forbidden curse and thus anchored his legend.

Simply put, the Vampire Ancestor progressed to legendary status because he created the vampire as a legendary race; whereas the Rat Immortal progressed to legendary status, leading to the passive advancement of the Rat Clan into a transcendent race, and this advancement positively fed back to the Rat Immortal, supporting and solidifying his progression to legendary status.

Thus, innately, the potential of the Mouse People is lower than that of vampires or werewolves, but higher than the transcendent races created by Legendary Wizards upon progressing to legend and evolving their worlds.

This secret concerning legends is something only wizards of a certain tier can understand.

Therefore, the wizards gathered inside the D&K shop are neither those with high-level wizard inheritance or from ancient wizard families; nor are they those ordinary wizards with no channels, pathways, or inferior aptitude; instead, they fall between the two, possessing some pathways and small sources of insider information, lacking superior talent, yet having a bit of a daring spirit.

This tier somewhat resembles the ’financial petite bourgeoisie’ defined in the mortal world, having a bit of capital, a bit of cleverness, a bit of news, and then rashly rushing into the turbulent waves of the financial world, hoping to become masters of capital through their ’wisdom’ and those small bits of insider information passed on several hands, not realizing that they covet the small change in other people’s pockets while others eye their entire fortune.

As these thoughts flashed by, the silhouette of the Yellow Flowered Cat had already darted past the doorway of Zheng Qing’s small shop, nimbly weaving through the legs and feet of several wizards queuing up, briskly dashing towards the San You Bookstore.

At that moment, several figures suddenly appeared in the middle of the small street.

They had used magic to directly escape to the doorstep of number ninety-seven on Pedestrian Street—this was rare because for safety reasons, Buji Island strictly controls escape technique-type magic, requiring wizards who use such magic to have special permission from the First University.

Especially these few guys here, there were five of them, making up a standard hunting team’s numbers, and across the whole of Buji Island, wizards capable of issuing such passes to them were truly few.

The Yellow Flowered Cat slightly curiously twitched its ears, paused its steps, and began to curiously observe these new unexpected guests.

A group of five, all male warlocks, clad in crisp black robes, holding law books bound in brown calfskin, with a trident sword emblem pinned to their chests. Even though the number of passersby on the street was sparse at this time, just standing there gave off the impression of elite wizards.

Clearly, these guys were staff members of the Alliance.

The few trident swords didn’t notice the tabby cat spying on them from the street corner, and after stopping the escape technique and confirming their position, a group of five headed straight for the D&K entrance, evidently having a very clear target.

Seeing these newcomers not queuing but rudely shoving aside customers to directly squeeze into the small shop, the Yellow Flowered Cat slightly furrowed its brows; compared to them, the customers queued outside the shop seemed much more deferential, showing no signs of minding being cut in line.

The Yellow Flowered Cat tilted its head, pondered for a few seconds, then flicked its tail and retraced its steps at a leisurely pace back to the D&K entrance, peeked inside through the transparent glass door.

Similar to the outside scene, once the uninvited guests with trident swords entered the small shop, the wizards who were crowded around the two mouse people suddenly scattered in all directions like scared birds by hawks, providing them ample space. Only the customer settling accounts with the shop assistant remained looking annoyed in place.

The Yellow Flowered Cat crouched at the entrance, pricking up its ears.

”Good morning, Mr. Milly.”

Dangdang Ears courteously raised its tail, wagging it energetically, greeting the black-robed wizard walking at the forefront: ”The weather is really nice today!”

The tabby cat looked up at the sky, although the sun hadn’t fully risen, the weather indeed looked nice, with blue skies and white clouds stretching endlessly, making one feel uplifted.

In contrast, the black-robed wizard greeted by the young Mouse Guy exhibited extra caution, merely nodding and simply replied: ”Good morning, Mr. Ding.”

The Yellow Flowered Cat snorted with a ’pfft,’ unable to hold back its laughter.

Who would’ve thought that even that little rat had a surname.

”Wait a moment!” Dangdang Ears’ tail abruptly ceased wagging, hurriedly saying: ”Let me finish attending to this customer first... Please wait a moment!”

Mr. Milly calmly stood aside with no objection, watching as Dangdang Ears skillfully counted five frogs from the nearby cage, snipped off the talisman strings tied to their legs, then picked up a copper stamp to brand the frogs’ rumps with several clear ’D&K’ marks, handing them over to a hooded customer whose face was obscured:

”Five fat-headed, big-eared green frogs, with a shelf life of one month. If any naturally occurring disease happens within thirty days, this shop will replace them. Human-induced damage will not be replaced!”

The customer pocketed the frogs into a pouch, then tugged on the hood, fished out a handful of copper coins, handing them over to Fox Five handling the payments.

”Received ten copper coins!”

The Fox race’s accounting gentleman noisily manipulated the abacus, calling out: ”Transaction complete! Welcome back next time! Merlin bless you, esteemed customer!”

Mr. Milly watched the mysterious customer depart hurriedly with the five frogs, pensive. When he turned back, Dangdang Ears was already gazing at him expectantly.

”Shall I answer you now?”

The young Mouse fellow spoke quickly but enunciated clearly: ”I don’t know, I’m unsure, I’ve been there, but I don’t remember... Haven’t seen, nor contacted.”

Behind Mr. Milly, a relatively young male warlock suddenly raised his eyebrows, showing a hint of anger, stepping forward as if to reprimand, but was immediately stopped by Mr. Milly.

Meanwhile, Fox Five also noticed the small incident at the counter.

”Sorry, sir, the shop is a bit crowded, little Ding is inevitably a bit anxious.”

The nearby accounting gentleman smoothly interjected: ”He’s not quite used to his current position yet... If you choose a less busy time to visit, we can surely answer your question better.”
