High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 1088: Chapter 150: Fishman’s Large Lake Parade

Xin Fat Man’s proposal to buy insurance ultimately fell through.

The worries of Zheng Qing also did not come to pass.

Although from the following days, the young scholarship students had prepared themselves to act with humility, they soon discovered that the attention of the young wizards from First University, including those from Astronomy Class 08-1, was more focused on the Fishman Tribe of Lin Zhong Lake, rather than on a certain warlock who had acted independently during an outing and had been recorded by the school.

To be precise, the students of First University were more concerned about the Fishman encircling march that happened on the Magic Restraint Festival.

Speaking of this disturbance from the Fishman Tribe, it was actually related to several conflicts that had occurred between the fishmen and wizards at the Lakeside of Bell Lake a few weeks ago. This included the initial incident where the wizards dealt with ashore fishmen without notifying the Fishman Tribe, followed by suspected attacks by members of The Radical Group, who smeared feces on the door of Book Mountain Library.

Especially the latter incident had ignited great indignation among the vast majority of teachers and students at Jiuyou Academy, making it difficult for the academy to suppress the matter. As a result, the discord between the two sides worsened over time.

On ordinary days, Jiuyou Academy was well-guarded, with wizards wearing Law books at their waists or carrying Magic Wands.

On the day of the Magic Restraint Festival, according to traditional customs, wizards had to refrain from using magic.

Some young fishmen from the Lake Bell Fishman Tribe felt an opportunity had arrived, so that morning, these fierce creatures that usually dwelled deep in the lakeplains appeared on the surface. They did not come ashore but instead swam around the edge of the lake. They loudly roared their protests against the wizards’ interference with the independence of the Fishman Tribe and freely caused destruction.

They muddled the lake water, yanked the tails of water buffaloes, plucked the feathers of Firebirds, and even threw Kappas onto the shore to scare the passing witches. They caused a ruckus for nearly a whole day, severely disrupting the normal study and life order at Jiuyou Academy.

Since these fishmen did not come ashore—although some fishmen did throw feces toward the shore—and considering that it was the Magic Restraint Festival, the wizards did not wish to stoop to the level of those filthy beasts in the lake, so the matter ultimately ended with the ”fishmen thinking they had triumphed.”

The next day was Sunday, and Zheng Qing did not go out because he was upset about being punished by the school the previous night. However, his three roommates did visit Lakeside of Bell Lake.

According to the news they brought back, the originally clear and peaceful Bell Lake had almost turned into a cesspool—the water was turbid and the shores were covered with traces of feces and urine. The suffocating stench was so overwhelming that it could kill a cow from a distance.

”Why doesn’t the school clean up that mess?” Zheng Qing was very curious about the school’s reaction. In his view, any well-trained wizard could restore the lake water back to its original state within ten minutes.

Not as Xin Fat Man described it, with a foul smell so intense that both humans and beasts couldn’t stand it.

”Because this matter is very sensitive, the school hasn’t yet decided how to handle it,” replied Xiao Xiao to Zheng Qing’s question, ”If the school wanted to smooth things over, Lin Zhong Lake would have been restored long ago. But the school does not dare to openly condone the illegal and disorderly members of the Fishman Tribe by giving them the green light. If they did that, I dare say, the number of students sneaking out of the academy to meander through Silent Forest the next day would increase by hundreds.”

”Tsk tsk, hundreds might be a bit of an exaggeration,” Xin Fat Man waved his hand but did not deny Xiao Xiao’s statement, ”However, the Doctor makes good sense, the school is indeed in a dilemma.”

”What’s the gossip?” Having been cooped up in the dorm all day, Zheng Qing was especially interested in the outside gossip.

Xin Fat Man also got into the mood.

He simply flipped his wristwatch, set up a small dish of salted peanuts, a small dish of Furry Beans, a small dish of celery with dried tofu, and a small dish of pig’s head meat on the desk, then opened a few bottles of Green Bee, inviting Zheng Qing to eat and chat.

Zheng Qing had no objections, and Xiao Xiao also tactfully joined in.

Only Dylan looked longingly for a moment before giving up on the gathering, pitifully retreating back to his coffin—Blood Werewolves’ diet consists only of fresh blood and meat; vegetables are not included. As for pig’s head meat, for many fastidious Werewolves, that kind of dirty livestock is absolutely not allowed on the dining table.

”Everyone knows that the Fishman Tribe originally had its own independent judicial powers,”

the fat man said, waving his chopsticks with authority. ”But with Sepulano and the young Fishmen engaging in smuggling deals onshore, getting caught by the School Works Committee, and with radicals smearing dung in Book Mountain Library causing patrols to clash with the Fishmen... One incident after another has nearly toppled the illusory independence of the Fishman Tribe’s judiciary powers.”

”Not only do Wizards not take it seriously, even their own kind are starting to doubt it.”

”If the school supports the ’excessive’ independence of the Fishman tribe, it’s an insult to all Wizards; but if they don’t support the lawful rights of the Fishman tribe, it’s an insult to themselves... it’s a dilemma where advancing is wrong and retreating is also wrong. Such is the predicament.”

Upon thinking it over, Zheng Qing realized it really was the case.

This made him feel deep sympathy for Boss Yao, who was recently in charge of school operations.

From the school hunting party’s melee, to the sudden appearance of a Dragon Beast in the hunting party, then accidents during the winter hunt, accidents in the Fishman tribe, accidents in the Black Tide, and even continuous conflicts between academies within the school and between the clubs.

Not to mention that there were ’some students’ who wanted to take advantage of this chaos to stir up trouble.

Thinking thus, Zheng Qing shook his head vigorously, took a gulp of Green Bee, shook his head and sighed, singing a song of inequity: ”People all around say it’s unfair, he rides a fine horse while I ride a donkey, looking back at the man pushing the cart, less than some but more than others... If both sides would just step back a little, this world would become a beautiful place—”

”If the school takes a small step back, Wizard civilization takes a big step back. If the Fishman Tribe takes a small step back, they will no longer have the courage to confront the Wizards,” Xiao Xiao picked up a peanut, tossed it into his mouth, and chewed. ”For a weak Wizard civilization, maintaining that bit of remaining courage and dignity deep within might be even more important than their lives.”

”Psh, heard that too often,” the fat man dismissed with a wave of his hand. ”What good is dignity if you’re dead! Dignity is something the living pursue. The dead have no dignity.”

”Yuck, that’s disgusting!” Zheng Qing originally picked a Furry Bean, but after hearing Fat Man’s dazed remarks, he frowned deeply, threw the Furry Bean back down, and chose a bright green celery stick, while complaining, ”Who the hell chops those things up for experiments?!”
