High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 1069: Chapter 131: The 6th Thursday

”Didn’t run away? Then where do you say it is now?” Xin Fat Man was somewhat annoyed.

”If I knew, I would have already claimed the reward and wouldn’t be here dawdling with you!” Zhang Ji Xin rolled his eyes and applied a bit more strength to the base of his hand, making the medicine jar clatter more noisily.

Watching the two about to start quarreling again, Xiao Xiao sighed wearily.

”Have you heard any other rumors?” Xiao Xiao raised his voice slightly, overpowering the clattering from the medicine jar, his gaze drifting uncertainly over Zhang Ji Xin and Xin Fat Man: ”The school has been in turmoil for three or four days now, there must be some results.”

Today was Thursday, nearly five days since Zheng Qing and others discovered the Painted Skin of the pet snake last Saturday. Even though the school’s spokesperson maintained the usual official tone, Xiao Xiao believed that the school must have obtained some information that was inconvenient to publicize. As the Recorder, he was always highly interested in such information.

Xin Fat Man could often enter the Campus Newspaper editorial department, a place brimming with events and rumors from every corner of the school, where one could inadvertently come across many classified pieces of information. Meanwhile, Zhang Ji Xin, because of his brother Uncle Zhang Zhi, known as one of the ’Three Heroes of Will’, and a strong contender for this year’s ’Lei Zhe’ title under Sacred Will, often heard some news that spread only in small circles from his brother.

Upon hearing Xiao Xiao’s question, Xin Fat Man shook his head decidedly, indicating he had no new information to provide.

Zhang Ji Xin, however, hesitated for a few seconds.

”I don’t know if it counts as one of the school’s investigative results.” Before speaking up, he added a layer of caution for himself, then looked around and lowered his voice, ”I heard from my brother, he heard from Lei Zhe communicating with Trident Sword. One of Trident Sword’s investigators has linked the ’Painted Skin’ case with last year’s Nikita incident... It seems like Trident Sword has extracted some information of a Big sea monster from that Painted Skin.”

At this point, Zhang Ji Xin closed his mouth, having said all there was to say, exchanging only a meaningful look with his companions.

As he began to speak, Zheng Qing had already lightened his pounding of the medicine.

After Zhang Ji Xin finished, the young scholarship student immediately raised the pestle in his hand, allowing the emerald-green medicinal liquid to slowly trickle down the grooves of the pestle, not minding it and instead, with furrowed brows, asking, ”Nikita? That name sounds kind of familiar.”

”That’s the Female Demon that made you faint on the charter plane!” the Red-faced Male Wizard teased with a taunting tone.

Zheng Qing felt his ears grow a bit hot.

”That was the aftereffect of my headache! Not from getting scared into fainting!!” The warlock raised his voice slightly, arguing: ”You know this too! Don’t spread rumors...”

What followed was a bunch of guilt-ridden threats like ’spreading rumors is libel’ and ’spreading to five people falls under Criminal Law’, which made everyone around burst into laughter, and the area around the workbench instantly filled with a cheerful atmosphere.

”Smack! Smack! Smack!”

Suddenly, a slender bamboo stick appeared among the group of warlocks, delivering several sharp strikes, instantly scattering that cheerful atmosphere.

Xin Fat Man squinted his eyes and said with a smile, ”Jiang Da Headmaster, the Professor isn’t even here, why so serious? Turn a blind eye, and it’s good for you, good for me, good for everyone.”

Professor Li had something come up during class and left midway, leaving homework for the class and appointing Tang Dun and Jiang Yu to maintain discipline during the latter half. This was the reason Zheng Qing and the others had been slightly more unrestrained just then.

Hearing Fatso’s slick words, Jiang Yu kept a straight face and said expressionlessly, ”Disrupting the class gets you a warning. If it happens again, you’ll lose a credit.”

The smile on Fatso’s face instantly froze.

Zheng Qing quickly poked him in the lower back, signaling him to get on with the experiment instead of spacing out. Only then did Xin Fat Man snap back to reality, reluctantly beginning to mix the potion with a grim expression.

As his buddy was reprimanded and being the little leader of this small clique, Zheng Qing naturally needed to help ease the atmosphere.

He cleared his throat and tried to divert Jiang Da Headmaster’s attention with another topic that seemed ’professional’: ”The school festival’s spring outing is in a couple of days, has our class decided where we’re going?”

This year’s school festival was on March 28, which was this upcoming Saturday, just two short days from today. Since many classes were going out on the same day and communication between various student councils and the School Works Committee was rather unclear, coupled with the tense atmosphere within and outside the school this year, Astronomy Class 08-1 still hadn’t settled on a destination for their spring outing.

However, based on past experience, the school festival spring outings are mostly within ten kilometers of the school grounds, and sometimes the school even opens up a newly developed mini-world for students to play in, usually posing no risk.

As expected, Zheng Qing’s ’somewhat official’ question made Jiang Yu shift her focus away from Xin Fat Man who was huffing and puffing through the experiment.

”The spring outing destination has always been handled by Tang Dun.” She shook her head slightly and didn’t directly answer Zheng Qing’s question. Instead, she hinted, ”All I’ve heard is that this year we’ll be camping somewhere not far from the sea.”

This response made Zheng Qing a bit exasperated.

You see, the whole Buji Island is in the middle of the ocean, surrounded by sea on all sides, not to mention those mini-worlds that resemble the ocean. Simply put, the range Jiang Da Headmaster provided was too broad, making it impossible to pinpoint anything specific.

Just as Zheng Qing was considering how to phrase his question to get more information from Jiang Yu, Xin Fat Man turned around once more, courting disaster.

”Monitor, Monitor, did the college set any attendance rate requirements or the like for this year’s spring outing?” He waved his Propharmacon pestle excitedly, as though he’d completely forgotten the ’warning’ from just a minute ago.

Jiang Yu’s expression turned dark instantly.

There’s nothing event organizers hate more than people coming up with all sorts of excuses not to participate. Undoubtedly, Fatso had stepped on a landmine once more.

Seeing trouble brewing, Zheng Qing hurried to mend the situation: ”Ahem, what Fatso means to ask is, with the current unrest within and outside the school, are there any regulations or policies in place from the student council or the School Works Committee? ...Right, he’s working with the Campus Newspaper. We can have him write a report to hype up this year’s spring outing.”

On hearing this, Jiang Yu couldn’t help but laugh, ”Hype up what? Just participate in the event honestly!”

Fatso seemed particularly dense today, dumbfoundedly saying, ”I didn’t say I’d write a report, did I?”

”No, you did,” Zheng Qing pressed a hand onto Fatso’s shoulder, pushing him firmly back to the experiment table, and instructed, ”Now, your task is to concoct the fasting potion that Professor Li requested before class ends!”
