High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 1062: Chapter 124 This is a Dangerous Season

After being stepped on by Tuan Tuan a few times, Zheng Qing suddenly felt an urge rising within him, wanting to transform into a cat and stroll around the campus.

This feeling was so intense that he didn’t wait for Fat Cat to have its fill of stepping for a full hour, he gave up a chicken leg and shooed it off his bunk.

Tuan Tuan was more than happy to oblige, without any hesitation, grabbed the chicken leg and ran off.

Although the season had already left winter behind, it still got dark relatively early. Around six in the evening, the campus was shrouded in a hazy dusk where one could hardly make out figures dozens of meters away—this was for humans.

For Zheng Qing, who had become a black cat, the dusk that was just setting in was perfect. His eyes wouldn’t turn into yellow, glowing lanterns under the reflection of streetlights, and his figure could perfectly hide in the gauzy night, attracting no idle onlookers’ meows.

He jumped out of the dorm from the balcony and, after threading his way through several forest paths, the black cat wandered around Lin Zhong Lake, ultimately heading toward the Cat Fruit Tree in the small woods.

A cat strolling leisurely always felt somewhat out of place.

Different from usual, today the Cat Fruit Tree seemed a bit lively.

A few colorful Flower Cats, arching their backs and emitting threatening purrs from their throats, were confronting each other. Among them, a frog whose head had been gnawed off was spasmodically twitching. For the cats and dogs of the school, the frogs from Lin Zhong Lake and the occasionally slithering Red Chain Snakes in the grass were among the most delectable wild flavors.

No, the frog was not the point.

The point was, as the leader of the cat group, Zheng Qing had once strictly demanded discipline from the clan. Various behaviors including stealing food and bullying were strictly forbidden. So, when today, he saw several Flower Cats fighting over the headless little frog, he was beside himself with anger.

Is there no law anymore? Is there no justice?!

Am I not still the boss of this tree?!

The black cat scowled and without a word, swooped in, swung his paw and, with a smack, scattered them on the spot.

The few Flower Cats that were slapped away came back to their senses, realized it was their boss, drooped their ears, tightened their tails, and meowed a few times with embarrassed and downcast eyes, rolling back to the Cat Fruit Tree.

Zheng Qing propped up on his front legs, squatting and adopting an air of dignified nonchalance, sweeping his scrutinous gaze over the group of cats on the Cat Fruit Tree, signaling them to watch themselves.

However, what frustrated him was that those cats of various sizes on the tree didn’t know what had gotten into them today, showing none of their usual utmost respect but instead gathering in groups, grooming each other’s fur and meowing together incessantly.

After enduring for a while, Zheng Qing felt somewhat disheartened.

Why bother getting angry at a bunch of silly cats? He consoled himself in his heart, flicked his tail, stood up, and after taking a run-up, leaped onto the Cat Fruit Tree. As usual, his ’throne’ was occupied by a certain lazy white cat lounging there.

Only today was different, Zheng Qing thought Xiao Bai, the white cat, smelled exceptionally good. He couldn’t help but lean in and took several deep sniffs.

”Smack!” Unsurprisingly, Xiao Bai slapped him across the face.

For the black cat, Xiao Bai’s swat seemed like nothing more than a tickle, barely having any force. Perhaps its only purpose was to tell the black cat that its behavior was not welcome.

Zheng Qing was a cat with dignity and naturally would not engage in any groveling behavior.

So, it raised its chin with an air of importance, plopped onto the remaining half of the throne, and began to survey its subordinates, embarking on another round of inspection.

As it watched, watched, the amorous entanglement of various cats and the inexplicable enticing scent wafting through the air, and heard the cries like a group of children, Zheng Qing suddenly realized something, his pupils dilating.

”Huff!”

The black cat, in a panic, stood up and turned its head to look—just a moment ago, a ragdoll cat meowing had approached from behind, licked the tip of its tail, and even tried to go further, only to be avoided by Zheng Qing, who had come back to his senses.

”Meow!”

The black cat clenched its tail tightly and angrily howled at the ragdoll cat. The ragdoll cat, looking yearningly at him and after realizing the black cat’s tail wasn’t loosening at all, could only shake her own tail and, disappointed, walk away. Following this, a Persian cat with beautiful blue-green eyes approached, also attempting to nuzzle under Zheng Qing’s tail.

Zheng Qing lifted a paw and pressed it against the face of the Persian cat, without hesitation, pushed her away forcefully. And thus, she too left disappointedly.

The ragdoll and Persian cats were not alone; behind them was a long line, as if all the female cats in the tree had begun to queue up, their pairs of yellow and green eyes firmly fixed on the black cat, making pitiful sounds that sent shivers down the spine.

Zheng Qing’s legs gave out as he let out a shriek and, with a flop, fell down from the Cat Fruit Tree. After hitting the ground, the black cat flipped over, not bothering to shake off the dust on his fur, and took off running.

Behind him, the sound of Xiao Bai’s breathless laughter followed.

Like Zheng Qing, Jiang Yu had the day off and didn’t need to report for duty with the search team. But unlike Zheng Qing, she wasn’t planning on giving herself a day off and instead decided to switch identities to continue the search.

So, after dinner, she drank a Transformation Potion, used a transformation spell to become Xiao Bai, and started her work. Before transforming, she made an arrangement with Li Meng that, later on, Li Meng would bring the Hunting team members to pass by the Cat Fruit Tree and pretend to encounter her ’Xiao Bai.’ Then, using the similarity between this ’Xiao Bai’ and another Xiao Bai cat that had been murdered in the school, they could use her as bait to join the follow-up search work.

Indeed, Jiang Yu planned to change her approach to investigation today and use herself as bait to see if she could lure out the Faceless Monster.

There was no better opportunity than today—according to the plan, behind the Xiao Bai she turned into was an entire well-trained Hunting team, the school’s cost students, and veteran students from three different colleges. It could be said that her backup was a hundred times stronger than at any time she had assumed Xiao Bai’s identity before.

You see, on a regular day, her backup only consisted of a not-so-reliable twelve-year-old Little Witch and a stuffed bear that had no claws and could only talk tough.

However, plans can’t always keep up with changes, and her plan ran into an unstoppable variable during execution.

The cats were in heat.

Seeing Zheng Qing scared off by the female cats and running away in a flurry, Jiang Yu couldn’t help but burst into loud laughter. She felt that this incident was enough to keep her amused for an entire year. The only regret she had was that she couldn’t admit to knowing about it, thus, she could not make fun of Zheng Qing over it.

Truly, that was a great pity.
