High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 1079: Chapter 141 Mice and the Little Girl

”Tell me, what brings you here today? You’re not the kind of child to waste time.”

Rat Immortal didn’t continue reminiscing, his long toes tapping the hardwood armrests of the black Taishi Chair in a steady rhythm, his tone as calm as before.

Korma hesitated only for a few seconds before pulling out a piece of paper and asked, ”Is this your doing?”

Rat Immortal slightly raised his eyebrows but made no movement, and then the paper flew from the witch’s hand, fluttering before him and unfolding in mid-air.

He read the note carefully.

A moment later.

”Child, you know me well.” Rat Immortal pushed the note back in front of the witch, his whiskers twitching, ”If I had intended that, I would have had the kid in the red vest tell you face to face.”

Korma sighed a deep sigh of relief.

”I feel saddened,” Rat Immortal immediately added, ”by your suspicion.”

A sweet smile immediately adorned the witch’s face, ”Actually, this note was just an excuse for me to visit you.”

”Hmm?!” Rat Immortal cocked his head, looking at Korma sideways while emitting a skeptical hum from his nostrils.

”I also brought you a gift.” The witch quickly pulled a bundle of silk scarves from her pocket, lifting each one individually, muttering, ”This red one is from New Year’s this year, this blue one from last Christmas, and this yellow one from last Mid-autumn festival...”

She counted each scarf, in total about three or four dozen, all bundled together in a beautiful, colorful display.

Of course, just being beautiful isn’t enough to impress an old mouse—it’s hard to say whether he still likes such flashy things at his age.

Instead, Rat Immortal cared more about the thought contained within these silk scarves.

With his profound magic abilities, he could easily tell that these scarves, which the witch had presented, were not impulsively bought cheap goods from Green Grocery on Pedestrian Street, but were instead handcrafted by her, stitch by stitch. What moved him more, were the embroidered details of dates, events, and blessings on each scarf, allowing one to easily tell when each scarf was a gift.

”Always giving these flashy things that are of no use,” Rat Immortal complained, though his tone was somewhat insincere.

”You don’t want them?” Korma’s expression changed, ”Little Mouse, you’ve changed, you weren’t like this before.”

This nickname seemed a bit too informal, a remnant from long ago when Korma, still a little girl, befriended a mouse in the forest. It had been a long time since Rat Immortal had heard this term of endearment.

He looked around somewhat nervously.

Thankfully, the mice wearing red vests around him were all very well-behaved, eyes on their noses and noses on their whiskers, their whiskers twitching, but none of them laughed.

”Ahem!” Rat Immortal coughed, and with a slight hook of his toes, the bundle of colorful scarves in the witch’s hand ’whooshed’ out, landing inside the pocket of Rat Immortal’s robe and disappearing without a trace.

The witch’s lips curved into a satisfied smirk.

The Rat Immortal’s mustache trembled as he forcefully changed the subject, ”I just read that note... do you plan to complete that idea this year? It won’t be easy... nor is it a wise choice.”

As the matter was brought up, the gentleness on Korma’s face disappeared, and her expression grew colder:

”If it were truly an easy task, the Mage Alliance wouldn’t allow the North Beta Town to become a playground for tricksters. If everyone followed the path of the wise, the ’Dent Area’ of Beta Town would remain forever sunken.”

Sensing the girl’s slight dissatisfaction, the Rat Immortal quickly denied, ”No, no, I’m not trying to stop you... I just think you could arrange your time a bit more reasonably.”

As he spoke, he hesitated for a few seconds, vaguely adding, ”The school won’t be very peaceful this year... too many troubles. Perhaps this isn’t a good opportunity for initiating change.”

”There’s never a right opportunity, only the difference between doing and not doing,” the witch stated earnestly.

The Rat Immortal finally stopped persuading. He gently tapped his fingertips on the hardwood armrest.

”Very well, very well,” it nodded slightly, ”Blessings lean on disasters, and disasters lurk behind blessings. Beneath the rolling waves, perhaps your small ripples stirred up may even be concealed.”

”Where do you plan to set up the Formation? Are all the materials ready? What about the personnel arrangements?” the Rat Immortal followed up with several questions.

A flicker of doubt finally crept into Korma’s confident eyes.

She recalled the conversation she had had with the Gypsy witch not long ago.

”The materials and personnel are all prepared,” Korma paused, then answered honestly, ”It’s just the location for setting up the Formation. We originally planned to do it at the school, in a very secretive place... But after receiving this note, we’re concerned something might have been exposed. So everyone is thinking about whether to switch to a Secret Realm or a small world for this task.”

”Oh?” The Rat Immortal lifted its arm, pinched its beard, and squinted, ”Finding an unmarked Secret Realm on Buji Island that hasn’t been tagged by the school isn’t easy... In fact, it’s nearly impossible. As far as I know, the small worlds around this island have been scoured by the school hundreds of times, with Supervisory Magic sweeping through regularly.”

”Pulling something off right under their noses... Difficult. Not to mention during such a sensitive time.”

Hearing the Rat Immortal’s response, the witch felt a rare moment of discouragement.

Indeed, when she discussed her plans with the Gypsy witch, she did have such concerns. But due to her lack of experience, she naively believed that a thorough search would eventually uncover a suitable location.

Since the Rat Immortal also felt the possibility was very low, the likelihood of her plan succeeding was almost nil for her.

But the Rat Immortal’s next words unexpectedly filled her with joy, bringing a silver lining amidst the dark clouds.

”Almost impossible does not mean completely hopeless,” the Rat Immortal twirled its beard, squinted, and his gaze fell on the depths of the Silent Forest, his voice became more distant, ”I’ve always felt that you are very lucky... whether it was getting lost in the forest as a child and encountering me or being from the North District and still becoming the vice president of the student union at First University. Your luck has always been very good.”

Korma suppressed her urge to argue—she felt that the ’luck’ the Rat Immortal mentioned seemed more like the result of her efforts. For instance, as a child, she had wandered lost and crying through the forest for nearly a whole day! It’s important to note she was just under six years old at the time! As for being vice president of the student union, that was the outcome of her diligent studies and efforts to socialize.
