Chapter 1063: Chapter 125 Escape Sightings

Regrettably, Xiao Bai the kitten couldn’t feel proud of herself for long.

After the black cat had fled in terror, the mother cats indeed backed down, but the male cats began to stroke their whiskers and rub their paws together, eager to try their luck. Naturally, their primary target was the little white cat who seemed capable of challenging the black cat for the ’throne’ of the Cat Fruit Tree.

Even though that kitten was ’suspected’ of not being of age yet?

No matter, a sniff would clarify everything.

After all, that big black boss was not around.

So, it was less than a minute after the black cat had fallen from the Cat Fruit Tree, that Xiao Bai also plummeted down, screaming as she fled in panic.

Jiang Xiaomao hadn’t run far before she heard muffled chuckling from the nearby bushes. Upon closer inspection, it was the black cat who had fled earlier.

Xiao Bai stopped in her tracks, made a sharp turn, and stood in front of the black cat, ferociously growling, ”Meow!”

The black cat turned his head away, lifted a paw, and waved it, suggesting this was not his fault and he wouldn’t take the blame. Yet judging by his twitching shoulders and trembling whiskers, Xiao Bai could easily tell that the black cat was reveling in her misfortune.

This was something she naturally could not tolerate.

As a result, the bushes suddenly exploded in chaos, with dust flying everywhere. A few tree spirits that had been digging for roots within the bushes were also startled by the cats’ scuffle, darting away to hide inside the hollow of an adjacent oak tree.

Of course, to say they were fighting was a stretch since it was unlikely that they would truly engage in battle. It was simply due to some murky thoughts that Zheng Qing took pleasure in indulging Xiao Bai in this harmless little game.

Before they could ’fight’ much longer, a cacophony of squawks and chatter erupted from the nearby Cat Fruit Tree. Clearly, the assembled cats were not blind and had spotted the black and white duo hiding in the corner. Pairs of yellow, green, and purple eyes stared intently at them, frightening the black cat so much that his fur stood on end.

”Tight wind, scatter!”

In his panic, the black cat blurted out a phrase in human speech, then reached out a paw to ruffle Xiao Bai’s head before bolting into the deeper recesses of the thicket. It seemed he was really spooked by the enthusiastic little female cats from earlier.

In comparison, Xiao Bai was clearly more startled now.

What’s going on? The black cat spoke human language?! The black cat can speak human language!!

Jiang Yu was already quite certain that the black cat was Zheng Qing in disguise, but as soon as the human speech came out, that certainty plummeted to less than one percent.

The reason was Mendel’s Paradox. As a witch from a prominent wizarding family, Jiang Yu understood the power of this ’law’, which was almost deemed an axiom, better than most.

A wizard could not simultaneously achieve ’free species transformation’, ’independence of will’, and ’magical power stability’ – these three conditions. Most wizards who study Transformation choose ’independent will’ and ’free species transformation’ and, accordingly, they pay the price with their magical power stability.

The first time she met the black cat, his growing and shrinking could be excused by the use of certain magical potions for the desired effects, but speaking was another matter. Even many magically powerful creatures were not necessarily capable of mastering a complex language. This was a unique ability of wizards, especially those who chose ’magical power stability’ and ’free species transformation’ as their conditions for studying Transformation.

In other words, within the wizarding world, nearly all animals known to speak human language are basically schizophrenic Transformation sufferers.

In the Witch’s memory, Zheng Qing didn’t seem like someone with schizophrenia.

For a moment, all these chaotic thoughts clashed wildly in Xiao Bai’s mind, leaving her dizzy and disoriented. Consequently, the pace at which she followed Zheng Qing’s escape slowed down subconsciously.

The Black Cat darted far ahead, sensing that something was amiss behind him, he looked back to see Xiao Bai standing there in a daze not far away.

”What are you spacing out for? Run! If we don’t run now, those Big Cats will catch us for mating!” the Black Cat yelled at the top of his lungs.

He didn’t mind speaking human language in front of a cat.

He quickly realized—in the Black Cat’s view, Xiao Bai was just a little white cat with a pleasant scent, and it was natural that she didn’t understand human speech. Understanding it would actually be abnormal— so the Black Cat took a few steps back and hastily drew several very abstract patterns in the mud with his paws.

Two cats with their tails between their legs ran ahead while a group of cats with heart-shaped eyes and upright tails chased after them; then one cat fell behind and was caught by the cats with heart-shaped eyes, and soon several strong Big Cats approached and pinned the fallen cat to the ground.

Zheng Qing didn’t have the fundamental skills as profound as Xiao Xiao’s, resulting in his drawings being less than admirable.

Even Jiang Xiaomao, with a human soul, could only roughly guess what he was trying to say based on the patterns traced by the Black Cat’s paws. This made her feel both embarrassed and amused, and the worry at the bottom of her heart also dissipated considerably.

Just then, the bushes shook, and two disheveled Wizard men and women sprang out from the dark corner. The Warlock, while adjusting his robe, looked around frantically and whispered, ”Who’s there?”

The Witch said nothing, just busy with her hair, head down.

As a Black Cat, Zheng Qing naturally could sit there nonchalantly, watching the performance of the two Young Wizards. While observing, he clicked his tongue in his mind, lamenting the decline of morals and the changing of times, lamenting that with the arrival of Spring, not only were cats in heat, but Wizards were also getting frisky.

The Warlock had been whispering for a while, of course, no one would pay attention to them. Only a white and a black cat were crouching under the tree close by, watching them with an eerie gaze.

Finally gathering her courage, the Witch asked softly, ”Could you have heard wrong? Maybe what you heard was a cat’s meow instead of human speech?”

”Impossible! Didn’t you hear it just now?” the Warlock strongly denied, ”There were definitely voices like ’Run!’ and ’mating’...”

Upon hearing this, the Black Cat immediately burst into laughter; turns out he was to blame.

He couldn’t help but chuckle, then received a reproachful look from Xiao Bai.

The noise from the two cats naturally attracted the attention of the two Wizards.

”Is that black cat choking on fur?” The Witch, always the more empathetic among Wizards, was still concerned about such matters even in this embarrassing situation.

”Let’s get out of here and talk,” the Warlock insisted, pulling the Witch by the arm and walking away, while consoling, ”It’s normal for cats to cough up hairballs... They lick their fur too much, the hair gets ingested, can’t be digested, and has to be coughed up.”

The Black Cat’s face turned dark.

You’re the one licking fur! You’re the one who licks it every day!
