High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 999: Chapter 61 Different Signs

”It’s not that the Magic Association Investigation Bureau doesn’t want to use a Law book or a wand as a symbol. It’s just that there was never such an opportunity,”

”One Law book is the symbol of the ’Book of Laws Standards Committee’; two Law books are the symbol of the ’Book of Laws Association’; three Law books are the symbol of the ’Scholars’ Alliance’; an open Law book is the symbol of the Curse Compilation Committee; a torn half of a Law book is the symbol of the Anti-Wizard League. And so on.”

”Similarly, there are even more and older symbols that use wands.”

”For example, nine wands forming a semicircle are the symbol of the Mage Alliance; a broken wand is the symbol of ’Second Salem’; crossed wands are the symbol of Buss Barton Magic High School; a wand entwined with a snake is the symbol of the Magical Hospital; and so on, there are many more such examples.”

”So, it wasn’t that the Magic Association Investigation Bureau chose the Trident Sword, but rather that in the beginning, we were only left with the Trident Sword to use. However, on reflection, the ’strong force concept’ inherent in the Trident Sword symbol seems to match our bureau a bit better.”

”I’ve heard some people in the bureau suggesting that we should change the swords on the left and right sides of the Trident Sword to axes, with the blades facing outward, to make it appear more intimidating,” Andrew suddenly stopped talking about this subject and also stopped walking, ”Hmm, we’ve arrived; their speed is quite fast.”

He was probably referring to the wizards working on defenses outside the market.

At this moment, Zheng Qing and his two companions had followed Andrew to the entrance of the Forest Goods Market. Along the way, except for a few flames that had not been completely extinguished and were trembling in the cold wind, there were no other signs of activity within the market.

All of the shops had pulled down their shutter doors and hung up Peach Charms and The Door God.

The Door Gods brandished weapons that glittered with cold light and moved about fiercely between the images, occasionally sticking out a body about a foot long to emit threatening sounds at the young wizards passing by.

Zheng Qing was very doubtful about how effective these Door Gods would be against groups of magic animals.

Unlike those shops, the entrance to the Forest Goods Market was not closed.

It was just that the entrance to the Forest Goods Market was covered with a layer of semi-transparent blue light film, separating the world inside the market from the outside. Looking through the light film from the inside, many people could be seen moving about vaguely, but it wasn’t very clear.

Andrew turned around and looked at the three young wizards.

”One after another, don’t rush, and walk slowly outside.” As he spoke, his gaze fell on the Remington Symbol Gun in Zheng Qing’s hand, and he added, ”Put away all of your attack-oriented Magic Artifacts like your Magic book and Symbol Gun... If you are not at ease, you can carry an Amulet in your pocket.”

Zheng Qing sighed softly, feeling his originally very calm mood becoming tense again with this cautioning.

He glanced at his two companions and weighing the situation, gestured for Xiao Xiao to go out first.

The Doctor nodded, and, holding his ochre Turtle Shell, walked out without any hesitation.

The pale blue magic barrier seemed like a curtain of water, apparently without any resistance, and Xiao Xiao passed through it very easily. Then came Xin Fat Man, who inexplicably aimed his mouth at the magic barrier as if he intended to collide with it.

As Zheng Qing passed through the blue light film, he happened to see Fat Man’s cheeks wriggling and couldn’t help but ask, ”Did you really just bite that magic barrier? Can that thing even be eaten? What does it taste like?”

Xin Fat Man gave him a surprised look, then his face expressed disdain.

”He’s not eating a magic barrier but a Purification mushroom,” said a Witch’s voice beside Zheng Qing’s ear, giggling, ”People always say that I think outside the box, but I find your thought processes even more interesting... Indeed, you are worthy of being a man who likes me!”

Zheng Qing’s face was streaked with black lines as he looked towards the source of the voice.

Sure enough, it was Sister Korma, the vice-chairwoman of First University’s student council and the owner of Gini Cottage.

”I didn’t...” he mumbled, his face flushing red as he quietly retorted.

”Right, right, I know, no need to explain,” Sister Korma flicked her ponytail, her face full of smiles. She then held out a piece of white, unevenly shaped object, like a piece of mantou that had just been torn apart, and pushed it directly into Zheng Qing’s mouth, ”Nah, you’ve just come out, eat this first... Remember to chew it at least twenty times before swallowing!”

Zheng Qing jerked his head backward, trying to dodge the feeding, but Sister Korma’s arm was long enough to easily suppress the young cost student’s attempt to escape, and she eventually stuffed the white object into Zheng Qing’s mouth.

The object was a bit cool, somewhat slippery, and tasted slightly fishy—or rather, had a strong umami flavor, like pork skin that had been stewed in a pot for a long time, sticky and putting one’s teeth to the test.

Zheng Qing chewed a couple of times, then slowly realized that this must be the Purification mushroom Sister Korma had just mentioned.

”What’s this used for?” the young Warlock quickly chewed twenty times, pinched his nose, and swallowed the Purification mushroom, then finally took a breath and asked, ”Why are you here?”

”Purification mushrooms, as the name implies, are meant to remove the negative energy from your body,” Sister Korma patted Zheng Qing’s shoulder as though dusting off his clothes, ”You’ve just come from an area that might have a Mad Hunt. This is a necessary ’disinfection’ process... As for why I’m here... if you can be here, why can’t I?”

This retort was powerful and left no room for argument.

After a moment of thought, Zheng Qing found a new angle to approach, ”I mean, shouldn’t you be busy with your magic circle...”

Before he could finish, Sister Korma’s hand was already covering his mouth.

The faint scent of cloves clearly flowed into Zheng Qing’s nostrils, causing the heat on his cheeks to surge back up.

”Shut up!” Sister Korma had no regard for the boy’s blush, and in a lowered voice, fiercely warned, ”This is a public place, mind your words! Don’t talk recklessly about things you’re not supposed to mention! Remember, you have signed a Silence Contract!”

After issuing the triple warning, she finally withdrew her hand from Zheng Qing’s mouth.

Only then did the vice-chairwoman of the student council seem to realize that her action might have been a bit impulsive, except she showed no intention of apologizing and unhesitatingly rubbed her palm on Zheng Qing’s robe several times.

”Beta Town issued a notice for assistance with a reward... I just happened to be in the North District, so I came to earn some credits,” she answered tersely in a stiff tone, replying to the question Zheng Qing had not managed to ask.

The young cost student kept his mouth tightly shut, nodding vigorously, indicating that he was very satisfied with the answer.

”Also, you three.” Sister Korma drew out her voice, signaling Xiao Xiao and Xin Fat Man, who had been standing to the side, to come closer. Only then did she take a look at a notebook from her pocket and asked with a stern face, ”In view of the imminent Black Tide, Beta Town has issued a cooperative defense notice, hoping that capable wizards can help Beta Town resist this Black Tide... The reward is substantial.”

”If you’re interested in participating, sign your name on this contract... Relax, it’s a safe contract certified by the school.”
