Chapter 981: Chapter 43 The Edge

Because Zheng Qing’s seat was quite close to the edge of the bar, and his reflexes were nimble, he only managed to spray the drinks onto the floor.

The other two companions were less fortunate; since they were sitting right next to each other, and Xin Fat Man’s substantial figure was not very agile, both he and Doctor Xiao ended up spraying their drinks onto each other.

But compared to what Sister Korma had just said, having a few sips of drink on them didn’t seem so upsetting anymore.

”X... sexual magic?!!” Zheng Qing, fighting to suppress the severe chest pain after coughing, turned red-faced, raised his head, and looked at Korma in panic, ”I’m sorry, I don’t quite understand what you mean!”

His confused statement was interspersed with the violent coughing of Doctor Xiao and Xin Fat Man, adding to the chaos at the bar.

Xiao Xiao’s cough sounded like a startled rabbit, seemingly ready to tuck tail and run at any moment; whereas Xin Fat Man’s cough was more like the grunting of a chubby pig, his small eyes brimming with excitement and exhilaration.

”Oh, you know, ’bang bang’ magic... You don’t know?” Korma said as she made a circle with the thumb and index finger of her left hand and poked her right index finger in and out of the circle, then reminded, ”Like this... Don’t you young people all enjoy this kind of physical magic?”

The witch’s gestures were somewhat crude, but the meaning was very clearly conveyed.

Zheng Qing confirmed that the suggestive images that flashed through his mind were not an illusion.

”The... the Wizard Covenant, doesn’t the Mage Alliance discourage this kind of magic?” Xiao Xiao timidly stretched out his hand, as if he wanted to take back the commission sheet from Korma’s hands.

But the witch deftly rotated her wrist and tucked the commission sheet into a drawer beneath the bar.

”Discouraging it doesn’t mean it’s prohibited,” Korma said, casting a coquettish look at Zheng Qing, pinching a pencil between the fingers of her left hand, the tip tracing from Zheng Qing’s wrist, over the back of his hand to the tip of his index finger, cooing, ”Aren’t the warlocks of the Alliance always fond of coming to the North District to guide the little trickster witches in performing this kind of magic?”

Zheng Qing felt a wave of goosebumps rise up his arm and spread to his back, making him shiver uncontrollably.

”Wow.” A meaningful sigh reached the warlock’s ear; he recognized it as Xin Fat Man’s voice: ”Shall we go change our clothes now?”

Without a doubt, the fat man was always eager to try new things. Or rather, boys usually seemed eager to try new experiences that sounded like they had nothing to lose.

But for Zheng Qing, he only had one thought at the moment, and that was to disappear on the spot.

Even if it meant exploding right there and then.

He felt his first time shouldn’t be so hasty.

The young, publicly-funded student’s face turned red, his eyes wide open, his mouth half agape, uttering ”ah ah” sounds of ambiguous meaning, looking as if he was having a heart attack and might drop dead at any moment. In just a mere dozen seconds, he felt as if his brain had been boiled by his spiraling thoughts.

And Korma, standing opposite him, still looked at him seriously, as if she didn’t understand why he was overreacting so much, making Zheng Qing wonder if he was indeed overreacting.

But it was only a moment before he realized his reaction was not mistaken.

”Hahaha... I can’t take it, I can’t take it anymore!!” Suddenly, the until-now serious Korma started slapping the bar tabletop hard, bursting into laughter: ”You guys took it seriously! You actually took it seriously?! Hahaha, this is killing me!”

A little further from the bar, those young people in gray robes all turned their heads in this direction, seemingly curious about why their big sister was laughing so happily.

Unlike Korma, Zheng Qing was far from happy.

It took him only 0.5 seconds to realize that the three of them had been pranked—Xin Fat Man might have taken a bit longer, about 15 seconds.

”So, that means there’s no ’pat-pat class’ of magic that needs our assistance, right?” After coming to his senses, the fat man grumbled to confirm.

”This is really bad news, Sister,” realizing it had been just a joke, Doctor Xiao also felt like joking and teased, ”You’ve ruined Fat Man’s only chance to lose his virginity... He will hate you for this.”

”Bullshit!” Xin Fat Man’s face suddenly flushed red—a stark contrast from the flush of excitement from before—he muttered with annoyance in a low voice, ”How could I... how could I... hmm?!”

He never managed to finish that sentence.

After all, it wasn’t a pleasant topic to talk about.

”Always so naïve, you’d be sold out in the North District,” Korma said with a laugh, holding her glass of wine, walking around the bar to Zheng Qing’s side, and placed a hand on his shoulder, ”You should know, in North District, every part of a little wizard’s body—heart, liver, spleen, lungs, brain, eyes and the rest—are worth a lot of money.”

”I’m not that stupid,” Zheng Qing shrugged, not shaking off the witch’s hand, but also not resorting to more aggressive means, he mumbled gloomily, ”I’m not naïve enough to be abducted on the streets.”

”Heh,” Korma snorted sarcastically, ”You are indeed not stupid... so it’s not a surprise that your application was rejected by the student council of the First University, right?”

This sentence, obviously, had a deeper meaning.

Just as Zheng Qing was frowning, trying to find the hidden meaning in that sentence, Xiao Xiao interrupted his train of thought, ”What do people in the North District need wizard’s body parts for? Don’t they know that magic talent has no necessary connection with any part of a wizard’s body?... Such behavior is illegal!”

”Illegal?” Korma laughed as if she had heard a joke, laughing so hard she was nearly in tears, ”In a place where you have to do everything possible, fight desperately just to survive, what does the Wizard’s Codex count for? To call you naive is truly an understatement!”

It was Xin Fat Man who explained Xiao Xiao’s question on the side.

”I have researched your question before,” Xin’s face lost its previous annoyance and became serious, ”Wizards naturally believe the investigation results of the Mage Alliance, which is that our body parts have no connection with our magic talent... but Tricksters don’t think so.”

”They believe that this is a smokescreen thrown by the wizards, aimed to stop them from obtaining the methods to gain a wizard’s talent... In the eyes of many Tricksters—who represent a significant part of the views in North District—the more ’real wizard’ parts you have on your body, the more your magic talent will recover until it is fully restored.”

”This isn’t just about ignorance or superstition.”

”This is one of the few glimpses of light that can be seen when you look up in the Despair Abyss.”

”It’s worth their all-out effort to strive for.”

The topic was so heavy that it swept away all of Zheng Qing’s previous embarrassment and awkwardness. He didn’t even want to pursue the insider information about his rejection by the student council of the First University that Korma had just mentioned.

”Ahem,” the young public expense student coughed lightly, clapped his hands gently, and switched to a more light-hearted tone, ”So, Sister, what kind of assistance are you seeking from us?”
