Chapter 967: Chapter 29 Registered Wizards Have Different Levels

Hearing Elder Xiao Bonar’s explanation, Zheng Qing withdrew his gaze with slight disappointment.

He had asked that question, not because he planned to raise a water buffalo himself. If he had some spare money, he would rather keep a little mermaid in a water basin, just like the ones he saw in Hui Zi Ji when he was a child.

He asked the old man merely to find a new product for D&K.

But since Green’s Grocery already had it for sale, that idea was naturally dismissed. His little shop had no capacity to compete with Green’s Grocery.

After coming ashore, the folks from Trident Sword had already been waiting for a long time.

The person who received him at the pier was also an old acquaintance of Zheng Qing.

The round-faced and plump Commissioner Andrew from Trident Sword.

”Are you now stationed in Beta Town?” Zheng Qing asked the round-faced wizard curiously.

He remembered that when his store opened, Commissioner Andrew had visited it for an inquiry about Fishman leaving school. At that time, Andrew had mentioned that he was only temporarily drawn to help in Beta Town.

The implied meaning in his words was that he wouldn’t likely stay in the town for long.

However, Zheng Qing had not expected that after more than a month, and with the winter vacation almost ending, Commissioner Andrew was still lingering in Beta Town.

”It’s just temporary,” Andrew did not deny Zheng Qing’s guess and sounded slightly dejected, ”It’s mainly because I am young and with shallow qualifications. I am not involved in any slightly secret tasks... I really envy those classmates who entered the research institute. This is why studying well is useful.”

When he spoke the last sentence, Andrew tapped Zheng Qing’s shoulder empathetically.

Zheng Qing was not clear on the specific connection between temporary assignments and security levels, but it didn’t prevent him from noticing another issue.

”Then why don’t you apply to enter a research institute?” Zheng Qing was somewhat curious, ”I remember their standards for recruitment are also registered wizards and above... not much different from Trident Sword’s.”

Trident Sword’s recruitment also starts from registered wizards, a fact Zheng Qing had heard from others before.

”Intermediate, my friend, intermediate registered wizards.” Andrew’s round face showed a trace of sadness, ”Similar positions like First University’s teaching assistants, lab researchers, and our agency’s senior agents, all require intermediate registered wizard certificates... and I only have a junior registered wizard certificate. The Mage Alliance and many large and medium-sized institutions actually only need a junior certificate.”

At these words, Zheng Qing suddenly understood.

Just as there are various levels of accountants in the mortal world, registered wizards are also subdivided into junior, intermediate, and senior registered wizards.

The certificate one gets after graduating from First University is actually a junior certificate.

To apply for mid or high-level certificates, one either needs to provide high-level papers or research achievements or needs several years of wizarding practice experience as well as recommendation letters from senior registered wizards—conditions not easily met by most ordinary registered wizards.

Zheng Qing was actually aware of this information, but he simply hadn’t thought of it just a moment ago.

”Hmm, it’s truly a sad affair,” Zheng Qing sighed together with the Trident Sword’s commissioner.

As the two of them spoke, Elder Xiao Bonar had already opened the ferry’s cabin. Passengers who had been cooped up inside for the journey ran out one after another. For a moment, the small pier was bustling with noise, colorful robes glittering against each other, creating a vibrant and noisy scene that drew a lot of attention from the surroundings.

After all, this was North Beita Town, where most residents in this magic nook were tricksters. Even if there were a few wizards with slightly better abilities, it was unlikely they had a junior registered wizard certificate in their pockets.

So, the sudden appearance of many students from First University naturally drew the attention of others.

”What just happened? Why were we locked in the cabin!” Xin Fat Man, just ashore, complained as he eagerly asked Zheng Qing upon seeing him, ”Did you blow up that frog?”

”It was a monster of misfortune,” Xiao Xiao corrected from the side.

Elena happened to pass by with her friends, and hearing this, she also stopped. She signaled her friends to go ahead and then stood next to Zheng Qing.

”Are you alright?” she whispered.

At noon, the sunlight was refreshing, the faint orange rays falling between the Gypsy witch’s wine-red hair, as if draping her with a thin layer of light gauze, making her presence subtly stirring to the onlooker.

Andrew stopped talking with Zheng Qing, smiling amiably at his friends nearby, and remained silent.

Zheng Qing directly ignored Xin Fat Man’s barrage of questions, and looking at Elena, stammered, ”No, nothing... just cooperating with the police on a minor task...”

Xin Fat Man rolled his eyes from the side.

”Police?” Elena’s eyes widened slightly.

Zheng Qing noticed that her pupils seemed a bit transparent under the sunlight, vaguely revealing a dark brown color, like pure amber.

”Oh, that’s the Trident Sword, and the mounted police,” the warlock immediately realized his earlier misuse of words and quickly explained, ”Police is the term we use back home.”

”Oh.” The witch, with her hands behind her back, bit her lip and nodded slightly.

The atmosphere became strangely silent for a moment.

After a few seconds, Xin Fat Man couldn’t hold back and coughed twice, reminding him, ”Say, Brother Qing, did you really blow up a frog monster just now?”

”Shut up,” Xiao Xiao unapologetically slapped him on the back, making him gasp in pain.

Elena looked at Zheng Qing with the same curious eyes, seemingly very interested in the question posed by Xin Fat Man. Also interested in this question was Commissioner Andrew of the Trident Sword, who had already taken out his notepad and feather pen, neatly awaiting the warlock’s response.

Zheng Qing found himself in a dilemma.

Admitting that he had blown up the frog monster was definitely gratifying. Not only could he show off in front of his girlfriend, but he could also indirectly publicize that his ’World’ title was not undeserved.

But at the same time, admitting it was filled with risks—first, naturally, was the potential accountability from the university, what if they made him pay? Moreover, there was the risk of retaliation from some big shot in the Deeps of Starry Sky.

”It was a monster of misfortune, a descendant of Satoguya, not a frog monster,” the scholarship student hesitated for a moment before deciding to be honest and humble: ”And I’m not sure if it died or how it died... I don’t know more than you do.”

Realizing that Zheng Qing wouldn’t share more information in front of his friends, Andrew finally stepped forward and interrupted their exchange, ”Alright, alright, we can chat about this later... Zheng Qing, come with me to the Trident Sword office for a brief record.”
