High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 955: Chapter 17 Su Shijun’s Arrangement

Su Ya always kept her word.

After she had handed the young public expense student over to Su Man, the head housemaid, in the main hall of Greenhill Mansion, she grabbed her bamboo basket, put on her deer-skin gloves, and dashed outside, shouting about catching a Flower Sprite that had crossed the boundary.

Although the head housemaid of Greenhill Mansion didn’t say anything, the helplessness in her eyes was even apparent to Zheng Qing.

”I apologize for the trouble,” Su Man said as she served Zheng Qing tea.

”Not at all, not at all,” the warlock hastened to wave his hand and smiled, ”She’s still a child; it’s good to be lively.”

Their conversation made the atmosphere in the room much more harmonious.

Before finishing his tea, the owner of Greenhill Mansion came down to the main hall.

”How has your winter break been?” Su Shijun held a hardcover book in both hands, flipping through the pages with a casual tone.

Zheng Qing instinctively took a closer look at the witch opposite him.

She wore a light Morandi-colored camel sweater on her upper body and a black-and-white polka dot skirt with French flair below. She wore a pair of khaki-colored witch shoes with kitten heels.

The waist on the skirt was high, tied with a slim belt; the hem featured overlapping decorations that looked intricate and rich in detail; plus those narrow-pointed witch shoes further accentuated her slender figure.

Zheng Qing didn’t know what a ”nine-head figure” was, but it didn’t stop him from recognizing the perfection of the witch opposite him.

He stared dumbfounded for a long time until Su Shijun curiously looked up, and the young warlock realized his impoliteness, his face suddenly heating up.

”Fine, fine,” he tried to keep his gaze on the witch’s face, answering both bravely and softly, ”Nothing much, except on the afternoon of New Year’s Eve when a Wild Demon appeared in our community.”

The witch’s face was as usual, wearing those large red glasses—Zheng Qing often doubted whether the magic on those glasses was failing because, to him, the glasses were becoming less effective at reducing the presence of the witch.

”A Wild Demon?” Su Shijun’s eyebrows slightly furrowed, her expression slightly displeased, ”The outside environment is really getting worse... What kind of Wild Demon did you encounter? How strong was it? How did the Alliance handle it?”

Zheng Qing silently recited the Calming Incantation several times in his heart, finally no longer in awe, and regained his spirits.

”A stray dog-looking Small Demon, medium strength; I’d estimate about 5-6,” he said, pondering internally for a moment, then choosing to explain in detail:

”I didn’t get the exact measure of its strength because right after I subdued it and turned around, Brother Huang had eaten it. You know Brother Huang, right? The one from my shop last time... Oh, right, you haven’t met him.”

Realizing this, Zheng Qing suddenly understood that the last time Su Shijun had been in his shop, the Yellow Flowered Cat had already silently disappeared from the shelves.

He hesitated for a moment, eventually choosing not to continue explaining who ’Brother Huang’ was to the witch.

”The Alliance sent an emergency response officer from the Trident Sword,” he skipped the previous topic and started responding directly to Su Shijun’s last question, ”but since there was no physical evidence at the scene, it was difficult for the Trident Sword to file a case; they ended up just handling it as a malfunction of the magic shield...”

”No surprise there,” Su Shijun said sarcastically, ”The bureaucratic nature of the Alliance is getting stronger; if something can be diluted, they definitely won’t stick to principles.”

Zheng Qing deeply agreed with this.

During their conversation, the witch had already walked around the coffee table and sat on the sofa. Her long hair, originally draped over her shoulders, began to swirl and gathered into a bun behind her head.

A few strands of hair fell beside her ears, making her neck appear even more elegant and slender.

”I will look into the issue with that little dog demon later... don’t worry,” Su Shijun opened the hardcover book she was holding and placed it on her lap.

Zheng Qing glanced over and vaguely saw words like ”dimension.”

”Thank you,” he sincerely expressed his gratitude and added, ”I will report this to the school as well.”

The atmosphere became silent for a moment.

After a pause, the witch spoke again, ”There are two weeks left until school starts, what are your plans?”

Zheng Qing perked up.

”I need to do homework, complete the public service work for cost students, help Xin Fat Man with a social survey, and look after the store’s business.” He counted on his fingers, one by one, and finally sighed, ”It feels like there’s so much to do, I’ll never finish...”

Su Shi’s face was stern, her chin lifted high.

”Is that all?” she snorted through her nose.

Enlightened, Zheng Qing quickly realized, ”Of course, I also need to travel around with Poseidon... I can’t always keep it at school, it’s not good for its growth... I haven’t seen it recently, I don’t know if it has lost weight...”

The last sentence, though not insincere, wasn’t really what Zheng Qing wanted to say.

But given the presence of Little Fox’s backer, the appropriate attitude still had to be displayed.

Finally, Su Shi’s expression softened a bit.

”Even when you’re out having fun, don’t go too far, just wander around Beta Town,” she cautioned. ”Don’t go to the Silent Forest, and don’t just wander into any Secret Realm either.”

Zheng Qing quietly breathed a sigh of relief and agreed repeatedly.

”Moreover, before school starts, you should stay here at the mansion,” Su Shi arranged with an unquestionable tone. ”I need to stay in the laboratory for a while, so I might not be at the mansion... It will be more convenient for you to stay here and look after it.”

The reason was very sufficient.

And living in a mansion was always more comfortable than squeezing in a small dormitory with several older male students.

Zheng Qing was more than willing, merely hesitated slightly before quickly agreeing. Of course, how to deal with the hunting team remained something he needed to seriously consider.

”Actually, staying at school is almost as safe as here,” Su Shi smiled upon hearing the warlock’s agreement and said, ”Although it’s not entirely under the coverage of the school’s Guardian Array, the protective magic around the Greenhill Mansion is more private and more flexible. It’s more than enough to protect you both.”

Zheng Qing had no doubt about this.

The witch continued, ”As long as you don’t recklessly venture into the Silent Forest, your safety is assured.”

Zheng Qing didn’t quite like the way this made him sound—it made him seem like a coward. And for a boy, especially in front of a girl, and particularly a beautiful one, it was hard to be seen as a coward.

”I won’t always stay in the school’s cage,” he rejected Su Shi’s suggestion somewhat roughly, saying, ”I am a cost student, and the school has already arranged public service work for me during the vacation... right in North Beta Town. Plus, as you know, the Absolution Hunting Team also has a store on the street. I won’t just stay at school.”

Su Shi’s lips curled up, her eyes twinkling.

”No one can restrict your freedom,” her mood seemed very good, and her tone lightened a bit. ”I’m just suggesting you pay more attention to your safety.”

Zheng Qing couldn’t help but smile as well.
