High School of Demon Hunting

Chapter 965: Chapter 27 The Threat Beyond the World

”World? What world? Which world?” Elder Xiao Bonar obviously hadn’t paid much attention to such current events recently, and he asked back.

It sounded like he mistakenly thought the other party was referring to some new world.

”The world of ’Magic Wand’, the last one in the Big Arcana Sequence, that ’world’!” An employee of Trident Sword said excitedly, as if a researcher had come across a rare piece of information: ”He is the youngest ’world’ titleholder recorded in the Wizard World... Besides, he is a scholarship student at First University, a recipient of the Merlin Medal, and his Hunting team won the school hunt competition, capturing more than half of the prey in the entire event!”

”It was a newcomer competition, not the Academy Cup,” Zheng Qing weakly interjected.

Listening to someone list his achievements one by one always gave him a peculiar feeling. His face flushed red—an experience he hadn’t had for a long time.

”Merlin Medal? A title of World?” Elder Xiao Bonar looked at Zheng Qing as if seeing him for the first time, his eyes drooping in serious curiosity, his tone now containing a trace of understanding: ”In that case, it makes sense that you could blow up that little creature.”

”I didn’t...” Zheng Qing said, his voice devoid of strength.

He felt like some misunderstandings he would never be able to clear up.

”Alright, which wizard doesn’t have any secrets? No need to explain,” Elder Xiao Bonar said with a wave of his hand, decisively putting an end to Zheng Qing’s reply. The Trident Sword employee standing to the side nodded in agreement without any objection.

The young scholarship student’s mouth twitched, and he eventually gave up the struggle, no longer hoping to clarify the matter in front of the two ’adults.’ Right now, he just hoped to leave this godforsaken place as soon as possible.

After all, when he left the school in the morning, Xiao Xiao had taken on an assistance task related to some small cabin.

He did not want his precious holiday to be wasted on others.

”Cough cough,” the employee of Trident Sword coughed softly twice, recapturing the young scholarship student’s attention: ”Although your status is special, the necessary procedures must still be carried out... I hope you don’t mind.”

Zheng Qing smirked.

He didn’t mind at all—in fact, he didn’t think his status was anything special.

”So, please describe the specific course of events,” said the Trident Sword wizard, setting up the notepad again, calmly looking at the young wizard. The snow-white feather pen floated daintily above the notepad, waiting for Zheng Qing to start speaking.

Zheng Qing turned to glance at Elder Xiao Bonar.

The old ferryman, with his hands leaning on a bamboo pole, was squinting at the scurrying black robes on the bay shore rocks, eyeing the pile of muck left after the monster’s death, seemingly oblivious to the conversation between the two beside him.

The young scholarship student took a deep breath and turned back, resigned to start recounting everything he had witnessed along the way.

Starting from Near Zhong Pond Pier, to the views on both banks, the tune of the boatman, even to the boiling river caused by a silvery fish—and he mentioned the tune Old Bonar sang, too—eventually coming to the ferry’s encounter in the riverbend.

”...when the frog monster tried to ambush me, it was stopped by the captain, and then I, unconsciously, fired a shot, just one shot, and it turned into a pile of mush,” he said, as if worried the investigator wouldn’t believe him, Zheng Qing stressed: ”You can ask the captain about that, it was just a Fu Bullet wrapped in an ordinary Evil Suppressing Charm.”

”Don’t worry, we’ll verify all of this cross-referenced,” reassured the Trident Sword wizard kindly, then sighed: ”Indeed, just as the teacher said back then, a powerful wizard could even use a simple Binding Spell to strangle the throat of Destiny... My Evil Suppressing Charm probably wouldn’t subdue a ghost of a hundred years.”

Zheng Qing indicated he had nothing more to say.

On the other hand, Elder Xiao Bonar seemed quite pleased with the ”Captain” title mentioned by Zheng Qing. Without waiting for the Trident Sword Wizard to speak, he said with a chuckle, ”The passenger on my ship has already explained in great detail. I have nothing more to add. In short, it was the descendant of Satoguya who started the fight, and the School Works Committee won’t compensate even One Copper.”

Upon hearing this, Zheng Qing felt his eyes well up with tears and nodded repeatedly—he felt the same way too.

The Trident Sword Wizard gave a dry laugh and hastily said, ”These matters, these matters can only be confirmed after an investigation... We are only responsible for a preliminary inquiry, just the inquiry.”

Elder Xiao Bonar showed some dissatisfaction, ”Does this mean you don’t plan to escort us ashore?”

”Escort?” Zheng Qing raised his eyebrows, slightly puzzled by the old man’s choice of words.

Noticing his confusion, the Trident Sword Wizard promptly explained, ”You’re only here for a simple registration now. Later, you’ll need to further assist with the investigation when we dock... Don’t worry, it’s all procedural, very straightforward. As for the escort, it’s also for your safety, considering you blew up a descendant of Satoguya.”

Zheng Qing had already given up arguing whether he had indeed blown up that frog monster.

He was very concerned about another situation mentioned by the Trident Sword Wizard.

”Could it be that this Satoguya you’re talking about might seek vengeance?” His tone was somewhat anxious.

The Trident Sword Wizard stroked the feather of his Feather Pen, hesitated for a moment, and then explained, ”While it was only a calamity beast, theoretically speaking, all descendents of Old Day Rulers are registered with their Elderly Ancestors. Any anomaly in their life state might attract the covetous gaze from the Deeps of Starry Sky... thus the matter is somewhat serious.”

Zheng Qing quietly swallowed.

So, he absolutely could not be connected with the death of that frog monster in any way!

What a stroke of bad luck!

Beings like the Old Day Rulers—could a freshman at First University possibly deal with them?

For a brief moment, Zheng Qing even considered whether he should act extra submissive in front of Su Shi Jun for a while and hide in Greenhill Mansion without stepping outside.

But he quickly dismissed the idea.

Relatively speaking, First University was somewhat safer than Greenhill Mansion.

”Then, about that being you mentioned,” Zheng Qing pointed upwards discreetly with his index finger and asked in a low voice, ”when is it likely to react?”

”That’s not certain,” the Trident Sword Wizard, apparently not realizing the young man’s unease, responded indifferently, ”Maybe a day, maybe a week, maybe a month... You know, such beings are immense in both size and consciousness. For them, turning a thought might take some Short-Lived Kind a whole lifetime... Moreover, if they’ve just woken up and their consciousness is not fully clear, the reaction could be even slower.”

”So it’s all down to luck,” Elder Xiao Bonar chimed in from the side—he did understand what worries lay behind Zheng Qing’s question—comforting him, ”But don’t worry, this is Buji Island, and you are a student at First University, and with all those titles, Satoguya wouldn’t dare make trouble here even if it had a hundred times the nerve.”

Finally, this response let Zheng Qing feel a bit more at ease.
