Rebirth: Splendid Marriage in the 80s

Chapter 1498: Chapter 1500: Can’t Make It Up

Chiang Songhai quickly replied, ”No need, no need, there’s no need to pay it back.”

”Dad, you don’t understand the situation. If Chiang Xiao owes money to somebody, after she gets married, they might think that she...”

Chiang Songhai cut her off, ”No, that’s not what I meant. We don’t owe Meng Xinian any money. This house, it’s like we bought it, but also not quite like we bought it.”

When Chiang Songhai heard Chen Kaijin assert very confidently that they had bought the house, and saw Chiang Yuequn bringing her directly to him, he guessed that they must have found out the house was theirs.

He remembered a previous chat with Chu Liang about renovating the courtyard and adding a wooden gazebo. Chu Liang had mentioned the construction cost, and at the time, he seemed to have said that the cost didn’t matter, as long as it was sturdy enough to last for generations.

So, if it was those words that Chiang Yuequn overheard, claiming now that the house was rented would definitely not deceive them.

If it was rented, who would be willing to spend so much money on building such an expensive gazebo?

At the time, he only thought of allowing Chiang Xiao to paint in the courtyard and for Chiang Xiao’s sake, Chiang Songhai completely didn’t mind spending more money.

Now, he dared not say the house was rented, for if they became suspicious and seriously investigated, he feared it would be exposed.

At this point, Chiang Songhai was simply trying to suppress their suspicions.

Although he had already discussed with Meng Xinian what to do if Deng Qingjiang discovered the house, that was under the assumption that no one had overheard those statements.

Now Chiang Songhai was filled with deep regret; why hadn’t he been more careful with his words?

But nobody ever expected Chiang Yuequn to secretly watch them, even eavesdropping at the corners of walls.

He had always thought that Chiang Baoguo and Chiang Yuequn didn’t even know where he lived.

”Dad, what do you mean by that?”

”What I mean is, initially we discussed the house with the landlord, signed a contract, to pay back in installments. When we have eventually paid off the debt, the house would then be transferred into our name. Right now, the money isn’t fully paid off yet, so the house is still in someone else’s name.”

This was the first time Chiang Songhai lied, his heart still pounding fiercely.

As for whose name the house was registered under, Meng Xinian had arranged that at the time, anyway, no one could find that person.

Even if they searched, they wouldn’t find them.

”How can there be such a thing?” Chiang Yuequn was flabbergasted.

Chen Kaijin was also stunned and said, ”Dad, how can that be okay? What if after taking the money, they deny the agreement? Besides, with the increase in property prices, what if they claim it’s still short a hundred thousand? Wouldn’t that be a huge loss for us?”

Seeing her include herself as one of the owners of the house in every way she spoke gave Chiang Songhai a cold sweat.

”No, that won’t happen. Xinian has made arrangements with them quite well. Besides, we have a signed agreement, with signatures and seals, it wouldn’t be easy for them to deny it.”

He even mentioned signatures and seals.

”So how much do we still owe now?” Chen Kaijin actually believed him, and so did Chiang Yuequn.

Because they both believed that given Chiang Songhai’s knowledge and cunning, he couldn’t concoct such a story.

”How much we still owe, I’m not quite sure, to tell you the truth. This money has always been something Xinian was handling. How could we have the money to pay it back, right?”

At this point, seeing that they seemed to believe him, Chiang Songhai secretly sighed in relief.
