Rebirth: Splendid Marriage in the 80s

Chapter 1468: Chapter 1470: Missing Her Already

Old Tang fell silent.

How should I put it...

”How long has it been since Xinian last made a call home?”

”A long time. He resents us, Old Tang. He truly resents us.”

Inwardly, Old Tang scorned, with what you did back then, it’s only normal for him to resent you. Chiang Xiao was such a good girl, moving into the Meng Family household, helping out with all kinds of chores, even assisting Meng Chaojun in finding medicine. I’ve heard she expended a lot of energy and thought on this, but how did Meng Chaojun treat her?

Anyone’s heart would grow cold.

Not to mention how he came to know these things, isn’t that all thanks to the person from Renzhi Hall?

That person truly couldn’t stand the injustice done to Chiang Xiao. Now that Meng Chaojun’s illness can no longer be hidden, Chen Baoshen has also revealed the efforts Chiang Xiao had put into climbing mountains and foraging for medicinal herbs.

They speak of how such a fine young lady was driven away by the people of the Meng Family.

Now who doesn’t know that the Meng Family angered away a granddaughter-in-law so capable and good?

The Meng Family residence is now cold and deserted. Those who have seen Meng Chaojun in the hospital feel he looks a decade older, his face swollen from chemotherapy, wearing an old man’s hat, looking utterly defeated.

Moreover, because of the issue with Duan Qingqing, he has been avoiding people; whenever he encounters someone, he hangs his head and folds his arms, lacking the courage even to meet someone’s gaze—a completely different man from the vibrant and handsome one he once was.

Keep in mind, Xinian was once famously handsome in the compound and the Alliance District. As his father, Meng Chaojun in his current state, standing beside Xinian, it’s likely no one would believe they are father and son.

But, could Old Tang say any of this to Old Meng?

He felt that Old Meng had already suffered enough blows.

Old Tang could only offer comforting words: ”Xinian is a good kid, even if he harbors some resentment now, he will surely come back in the future.”

”Really?” Old Meng’s eyes lit up, ”Old Tang, do you truly believe that?”

”Yes.”

”I think so too, speaking of Little, that child is indeed good. You don’t know how much she helped Chaojun and me in the beginning. It’s just that at the time, we truly didn’t appreciate her, we were oblivious to our good fortune,” Old Meng sighed deeply, ”We hurt that child too.”

”Little Chiang, she...” Old Tang saw Old Meng finish speaking and eagerly look at him, finally understanding what he meant.

It meant that it wasn’t enough to say Xinian would return; he was also hoping for Old Tang to say that Chiang Xiao would return as well.

But whether Chiang Xiao would return to the Meng Family or not, Old Tang really couldn’t say for certain.

That young girl had quite a temper.

”When the time comes, let Xinian sweet-talk her properly.” That’s all he could say.

Old Meng sighed again.

His eldest grandson had always been on Little’s side, never tolerating the slightest grievance against her.

Actually, it might be better for him to apologize properly than for Xinian to do the sweet-talking.

Besides, he really did appreciate the time Little had stayed at home, despite the commotion. Little truly treated him well—making tea for him, preparing snacks, and when she saw him wake up unwell, she would go straight to help Aunt Guo make porridge. And no kidding, the porridge she made would always invigorate him.

It has been a long time since he had tasted the tea and porridge made by Chiang Xiao.

Those snacks, Chiang Xiao hadn’t sent them over again either.

Of course, it wasn’t just about those things—he really missed Chiang Xiao, the child who was always full of vitality. Sometimes, seeing her brimming with Essence, Qi, and Spirit made him feel like there was hope in life.
