Rebirth: Splendid Marriage in the 80s

Chapter 1465: Chapter 1467: Deluding Oneself

Chiang Xiao really did spit out a mouthful of tea.

She couldn’t believe it as she looked at Kuang Kanzhi, ”Cousins? Don’t you know it’s not good to marry close relatives?”

Kuang Kanzhi glanced at her, ”You know this too? Must be a notion passed on from abroad. In ancient times, there were many cases of cousins marrying each other, ’keeping it in the family’, so to speak, and I haven’t heard anything bad about it.”

Chiang Xiao: ”...”

Really?

That can’t be right. Although it is only the early 1980s now, shouldn’t it be common knowledge that inbreeding can lead to malformed offspring?

Thus, she was somewhat confused. Some things that she took for granted as common knowledge were actually unknown and unbelieved by many in this era.

”It is true, marrying close relatives...”

Kuang Kanzhi interrupted Chiang Xiao, ”You don’t need to educate me on the dangers of marrying close relatives. Let me put it this way, we all know, the Marriage Law enacted a few years ago has stipulations that direct blood relatives and collateral blood relatives within three generations are not allowed to marry. We know these rules clearer than you do.”

Chiang Xiao was silent.

Knowing this, and yet they still intend to have Yun Xian marry his cousin?

”Yun Xian and his cousin, although they haven’t reached the third generation, are pretty close to three generations apart. Statistically, it’s very possible that there will be no issues. Plus, that niece of mine has been raised in her uncle’s home since she was young, and everyone thinks she’s his daughter.”

Pfft.

Isn’t this self-deception?

In that case, how could Yun Xian possibly agree?

Kuang Kanzhi found himself somewhat speechless after telling Chiang Xiao these things, he hadn’t intended on sharing so much with her, planning to finish the conversation in just a few words. But somehow, as he spoke, he realized Chiang Xiao understood everything clearly, making it hard to deceive her, and so, he ended up giving more and more details as he went on.

And now, he had even ended up discussing the issue of the offspring of close relatives.

This young lady really is...

When he told these things to Qingqing, she didn’t even understand.

”Alright, so Mr. Kuang, what are you telling me all this for? What do you need me to do?”

Chiang Xiao asked.

In fact, after hearing all this, she didn’t know how she could be of any help to Yun Xian.

After all, this is ultimately Yun Xian’s family affair, could she intervene?

Yun Xian himself hadn’t mentioned this to her, which obviously meant he didn’t need her help.

Kuang Kanzhi said, ”Qingqing told me that Yun Zhi is unwilling to wait any longer and is adamant about getting back the property because of you. So, I hope you can persuade him to be patient a bit longer, to think of another solution, maybe he can still reclaim the property.”

Is that it?

Why does she feel that Kuang Kanzhi’s intentions aren’t that simple?

”What I say, Brother Kuang might not necessarily listen to, right?”

”How do you know if you don’t try? This time he’s come back with a firm resolve to fight for the property, and I don’t wish to see the Kong Family fall apart. I have been trying to find a solution, to properly resolve this issue, but it will need some more time.”

To be honest, Chiang Xiao didn’t quite believe Kuang Kanzhi’s words.

If he was truly dedicated to finding a solution, would it have taken so many years?

All these years, Kuang Yunzhi was all alone in City M, didn’t they say anything?

Or is it that now that cousin Kuang is grown up and can’t wait any longer, that’s why they are forcing this on him?

Exiting the restaurant, a breeze blew over, bringing a slight chill.

Chiang Xiao took a deep breath and slowly walked back home.

When she reached that alley, standing at the gate of the courtyard next to her home, she couldn’t help but stop.
